Ryn gets her party on as the Bristol Cove police close in on her!
Siren on Freeform gave us thrills and had us cheering for more this week! Ryn (Eline Powell) manages to wander away from Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola). But there are no murders this week as Jerry (David Kaye) takes her to a party at an old motel. This doesn’t mean things are without danger though as the party at the motel is broken up by the police due to a noise complaint. While they are there, they ask Ben if he has seen a woman and show him a picture. The picture is a spot on drawing of Ryn. It seems Maddie’s father is on Ryn’s trail and he has a pretty accurate description to find her. The question now has become how Ben and Maddie are going to be able to get Ryn out of this mess.

Meanwhile, Xander (Ian Verdun) and Calvin (Curtis Lun) are on the hunt for Chris (Chad Rook). He was able to send out an SOS text from a government nurse’s phone. They follow the nurse and are much closer to Chris than they realize. The government does still have him, along with Ryn’s sister. They’ve been testing her DNA on rats and attempting to discover all the things they can do. Xander and Calvin almost get themselves into trouble, but are able to narrowly escape. But will they be able to get Chris away from the government? What does the government want exactly from the mermaid? What will happen when Maddie’s father inevitably closes in on Ryn?

1. Do you think Ben is feeling a romantic draw towards Ryn?
Athena (@tinygymshoes): I think it’s a little more than romance. Ben has been captivated since Ryn sang her siren song the first night he found her.
Ashley (@twister8291): Yes! My god! That part where they were interviewing and looking at her body composition! The way Ryn put both hands up and down Ben! It was very exciting! I wonder what made him snap out of it right before the kiss.
LaShonda (@HQ_Klaroline): That seems to be the million dollar question. We all want to know. I’d say yes, because Ryn has lured Ben with her song. But that will change in time. Ben seems to be drawn to the fact that they exist.
Brigida (@domominreader): I think he’s more enthralled and curious about Ryn’s abilities and the fact that she’s a mermaid. Romantic feelings? It may happen in the future, but for the moment I think it’s just pure curiosity and the draw sailors have toward mermaids.
Lauren (@Young_Dryas): I do, but I think it’s more than just the myth. What I mean is, her siren song supposedly lures fishermen in so she can kill them. But I don’t think that’s the case with Ben. I think they are both naturally drawn to each other.
2. Ryn seems very calm when Ben speaks with her. Why do you think Ryn listens so intently to Ben and tries to do what he tells her?
Athena: I feel like Ryn has a sense of trust with Ben since he’s done nothing but be kind to her and protect her.
Ashley: Like what Maddie said to Ryn, trust. Trust is like love. Ryn said she only trusts a few people. My guess would be Ben is one!
LaShonda: Ryn can sense she can trust Ben.
Brigida: Ben also talks to her with a calm and gentle voice. The same way Ryn knows when Maddie’s afraid of her, I believe Ryn is able to feel Ben being genuine when he says he wants to help her.
Lauren: Ryn definitely feels a connection with Ben. Probably similar to the way Ben is feeling drawn to Ryn. She doesn’t want to hurt him and is clearly trying to fight her instincts when it comes to Ben.
3. What are the scientists looking to do with the DNA from Ryn’s sister?
Athena: I’m convinced that the military are doing the experiments on the rats in order to alter the human DNA or come up with some sort of enhancements.
Ashley: It looks like they are finding cures for diseases. The paralyzed rat was given the DNA of Ryn’s sister and was cured! I was really hoping they would accidentally spill water onto that rat. Rat/siren hybrid!
LaShonda: Knowing what the government knows from testing, they would reap the benefits from a cure that could change mankind.
Brigida: I think maybe ways to help cure diseases and improve humans.
Lauren: I really don’t know. They have been really good about keeping that a mystery so far. We know they are discovering at least a few things that her DNA can do. But we don’t know to what end just yet. I am hoping we find out soon!
4. Ryn put all 25 images on the screen in the correct order rapidly, which showed a high level of intelligence. Did it surprise you with how smart Ryn obviously is?
Athena: No, she’s quickly learning English and understanding what words mean. She’s able to communicate and blend in a little more than she could when she first started learning about humans.
Ashley: No because she is a fast learner! It also reminded me of dolphins, one of the smartest sea creatures! It also seems like this isn’t her first time on land. When Ben or Maddie asked if others were coming onto land she said no because land is bad and it hurts.
LaShonda: That didn’t surprise me at all, given they’re highly intelligent. It makes you wonder what else she can do.
Brigida: It didn’t surprise me because she caught several English words quite fast.
Lauren: Not really. I knew that Ryn was smart, but I wasn’t sure if she would be able to arrange the images that quickly. But it is deceiving because of her inability to understand and speak English proficiently.
5. Ryn and Ben came extremely close to kissing and all Maddie had to offer was a shrug and a smile. Why do you think this was how she reacted to the situation?
Athena: I think Maddie is just as captivated by Ryn as Ben is and understands that Ryn doesn’t quite understand human emotions. Ben also snapped out of it when he realized what was going on.
Ashley: I have absolutely no clue. I found that the oddest part of the episode. Well, that and the end where Ryn got into bed. I expected to see Maddie’s shocked expression. Maybe she only smiled and shrugged because Ben pulled away?
LaShonda: That’s a tough one. Maddie knows Ben and that he wouldn’t stray away from her. She was letting Ben know its ok and that she trusts him.
Brigida: I think Maddie’s aware of how humans feel a pull towards mermaids because she herself feels it as well. So by being aware of such, she knows that almost-kiss wasn’t a romantic act.
Lauren: I truly think Maddie has already sensed there is a connection between Ben and Ryn. While she might not realize it’s a romantic connection yet, she just wants Ryn to feel comfortable. But if Maddie truly loved Ben, there would have been a little more of a reaction when a mermaid almost kissed her boyfriend.
6. Ryn’s sister is showing signs of dying. Do you think this is just a ruse in order to escape, or is Ryn about to lose her sister before she can find her?
Athena: I absolutely think it’s a ruse! We have so little knowledge about mermaids that her condition could be normal to mermaids but alarming to us.
Ashley: I hope it’s just a ruse! I mean, could you imagine her shrieks and violent rampage if her sister did die?! I really think that scientist will save her. She did wake up in the end with an intense stare.
LaShonda: Given that they’re not made to be held captive, I believe they’re using their intelligence to escape. There is some truth to them dying if not in their own habitat.
Brigida: Oh, it’s definitely a ruse. Ryn’s sister is not going to die that easily.
Lauren: I want to say this is just a ruse by Ryn’s sister. But part of me also feels like all the tests they’ve been performing on her probably have weakened her. I also want to know why they haven’t attempted to see if she can change into a human. Do they not know she can do that?
7. There’s clearly a lot of tension between Ben and his brother that Doug is looking to fix. Do you think he is genuine, or does Doug have ulterior motives?
Athena: Doug might have been genuine with Ben before, but it seems like being around his father is causing him to have ulterior motives when it comes to his brother.
Ashley: Oh this one is a hard one. I think Doug will know where to get Ben where it counts. Doug did mention it used to be him and Ben all the time together. I think the father also knows there’s a connection and will use that to his advantage.
LaShonda: If Doug is anything like his parents, I’m betting his dad is looking for information and wants to know what Ben knows.
Brigida: At this point, I can’t trust anyone from Ben’s family. There’s a lot of things we don’t know and a lot of things they’re probably hiding from Ben. So my guess is that Doug might have ulterior motives.
Lauren: I would like to say Doug is being genuine, but part of me is worried there are ulterior motives. Ben’s family has proven themselves to be deceptive and untrustworthy. With Doug always backing them up it makes sense that he would want Ben on the side of the family as well. But only time will tell!
Final Verdict: We love seeing Ryn learn to communicate better, but we’re worried about the police closing in on her!
Eline Powell is killing it as Ryn! A better actor couldn’t have been chosen! The writing of how Ryn is learning is also exceptional. Each moment we see has us wanting more. Every character has us more than just intrigued, we are already invested. The mysteries surrounding Ryn’s sister and the government are keeping us on the edge of our seats. We need to know what the government’s ultimate goal is and what they will have to do to Ryn’s sister to achieve it! We’re pretty concerned about Chris as well. We have no idea what the government is planning to do with him, but we’re sure it isn’t good. Then there is the fact that Ben has also been scratched by a mermaid. This has us wondering what the side effects could be, if there are any.

While we are loving the mystery of it all, we would like some kind of a clue about what is going on with Chris in the government facility. It would also be nice to find out what the government is planning to do with Ryn’s sister now that they have stopped all the experiments. Then there is the relationship between Maddie, Ben and now Ryn. There is clearly a draw between Ben and Ryn. The part that has us baffled is how Maddie can seem so okay with it. If Maddie really loved Ben, wouldn’t she be a little more concerned about the connection he seems to have with Ryn? They have definitely been a little too close for comfort on more than one occasion.
Next week it looks like we may finally be getting some answers! Not only is Chris finally going to make his escape from the government facility, but it looks like Ryn’s sister may be as well! Does this mean we may finally get to see Ryn’s sister in her human form? We may also be getting some more answers about what the military wants with mermaids as they go into overdrive attempting to get both Chris and the mermaid back!
