Annabella Sciorra cast as a villain in season 2 of Marvel’s Luke Cage and Black Lightning showrunner Salim Akil discusses the importance of the series
We’re back again this week with another issue of Superhero After Dark! Before we get to the week’s news, check out last week’s issue.
Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos) has been cast in the upcoming second season of Marvel’s Luke Cage. She’ll be playing Rosalie Carbone, a villain with connections to Marvel’s The Punisher.
Salim Akil, the creator and showrunner of The CW’s Black Lightning, recently spoke at SXSW about the show and the importance of including real-life issues in the series. Cress Williams also discussed the show and his character.
“I love that he is flawed. […] He’s that three-dimensional being with family ties and his own demons to exercise and so makes him a compelling character.”
‒ Cress Williams (Jefferson Pierce)

Hot Topic: Black Panther continues to perform exceptionally well!
Black Panther has performed extremely well since its debut in mid-February, and that trend has continued. In the past three months, Black Panther is the only Hollywood release to achieve blockbuster status.
Internationally, the movie has made about $2.6 billion since it was released. Domestically, Black Panther has pulled in about $612 million. In recent years, the industry has been heavily reliant on a few large blockbusters, while many other movies struggle. Luckily for Disney/Marvel, Black Panther is that movie for the first three months of 2018.
