The Flash Season 2 Goes From Red and Gold to the Classic White and Gold!
Fans of CW’s new superhero hit The Flash were given several hints last season from the producers as well as individual episodes that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) would get a few upgrades to his superhero costume that would be closer to the comic book versions of the Flash suit. Today, The CW and Warner Bros. TV released an official still at Grant Gustin in his Flash costume but whose emblem has been changed from red and gold to white and gold. While the red remains somewhat similar, it’s exciting to see the costume reach another classic aspect of the scarlet speedster’s costume in the comic book world.

People who attended this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and visited the DC Entertainment booth will have already seen this new version of the suit in displays featuring all the CW DC costumes. But a photo of Gustin in the suit, is 100% better. The first version of the costume was created by Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood while this version was done by Arrow and The Flash’s costume designer Maya Mani. Speaking of the Emerald Archer; Mani was also the same designer to create the new Green Arrow costume that Stephen Amell debuted in at Comic-Con and you will be able to see Oliver Queen sport it when Arrow returns for Season 4 on Wednesday, October 7.
In the season finale of The Flash, “Fast Enough“, Barry goes back in time to save his mother from being murdered by the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh), but when he sees the future Barry, he is sporting a costume that not only has the white and gold logo, but has an even brighter red. That particular suit resembles the comic book version even more. What this new photo possibly implies is that this will most likely not be the final time that the suit goes through an evolution.
There is even the potential that we might see Barry’s cowl go through some changes as well one day with the lightning bolt ear-pieces evolving to what it looks like in the comics, although it might be practically and visually better to just keep the cowl as it is as the ear-pieces that they have on it right now, works just fine. The thing that remains to be seen now is whether it will be Cisco (Carlos Valdes) that makes the update to the emblem or if it will be Barry that takes the initiative and change the color himself. Whatever the circumstance will be, it’s great to see superhero costumes go through different stages instead of just sticking to the same thing for multiple seasons in a row, like Arrow did for its first three seasons.
Both The Flash and Arrow have started production on their new respective seasons in Vancouver, Canada and as we get closer to October, it’s safe to say that we will be getting plenty of new reveals and information, including their shared spin-off series, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow that will kick off in mid-season of 2016!
