There’s no escaping this, we’re definitely in it together
Cloak & Dagger opens with Tandy (Olivia Holt) watching a commercial of Roxxon. She’s gathered a lot of information over from Roxxon so that she can figure out what happened the night of the explosion. She maneuvers her way into a Roxxon charity gala where she uses her powers to see the hopes of some of the Roxxon employees. She notices a man in all of their hopes and realizes where she knows him from. She connects him to when the people came into her home and took her father’s research. After discussing it all with Ty, because he popped up at the gala because of their connection, she follows the lead and makes the connection to one of the other people at Roxxon.

Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) goes to meet with detective O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) about Connors (J.D. Evermore). Even though she doesn’t believe that she can take him down, she does think that she may be able to take him down for something else. She starts to conduct her own investigation into Connors and eventually, lures him in after he finds her snorting cocaine. While at the basketball game, Tyrone starts having issues controlling his cloaking because of how frequently Tandy is using her powers. After accidentally teleporting to where she is during halftime of the game, he makes it back to finish the finals. During the final moments of the game, Tyrone starts to touch members of the opposing team, which causes him to see some of their fears. In the end, Ty makes the choice to miss the game-winning shot, allowing the other team the victory. When he makes it home, Evita (Noelle Renee Bercy) is waiting for him. She lets him know that she knows why he did what he did at the game. They spend the night together and in the morning, he teleports to the garage of his brother’s old friend. He’s having a dispute with Connors.

1. Tyrone teleported without a cloak. In what other ways do you think he will be able to use his powers?
Kimberly (@candypie22): When it comes to Tyrone ’s powers I’m still on the confused bus. I really don’t know yet how else he can use his powers but I can’t wait to find out more about his powers and Tandy’s. I did love how Ty said that since Tandy was using her powers so much that it affected him.
Haley (@lucifersearp): I think he’s going to have the ability to transport more than just himself, which could get him and Tandy out of a lot of danger.
Christina (@cherry_1027): I think once he gets into his powers more he’ll be able to touch a photograph and see that person’s fears or teleport to a place.
Jess (@irissknowles): I think he’s going to learn how to control them more and make them more precise like he will be able to just think and concentrate on a specific place and teleport there on command.
Malasha (@MalashaMonique): He’s eventually going to be able to teleport more than just himself. He’ll definitely be able to do it at any point in time by just thinking about it. I hope he starts to try things on his own. Their stories are completely new to me so I have no idea how anything works for them.

2. Tyrone’s mother is constantly on the phone– her conversations seem more significant than the show lets on. Do you think she’s involved in something suspicious?
Kimberly: I always wondered if Tyrone’s mom was connected to Roxxon in someway. And I believe that Roxxon is one of her clients, I think they said in the episode. So she is connected to them but I don’t think in a shady way (fingers crossed).
Haley: I think she’s involved the Roxxon and doesn’t know the truth about them.
Christina: She may not be involved in something suspicious… But she seems to be a person who knows a little about everything around town and its people.
Jess: The one conversation that stood out to me while Tyrone’s mom was on the phone was that “Roxxon is one of [their] biggest clients.” Considering all the shady stuff Tandy has been working to uncover about Roxxon, I could definitely see Tyrone’s mom getting into some conflict with them in the near future.
Malasha: My first thought is that she has something to do with whatever is going on at Roxxon. She seems like a sweet lady on the outside, but her job is still a mystery to us so there is no telling what she could be involved in.

3. Why do you think Ty is always showing up at the “worst” times for Tandy? In what ways do you think it has to do with their connection?
Kimberly: I think Tyrone shows up at the worst time because Tandy is misusing her powers. I think of their powers in a Yin and Yang aspect.
Haley: I think he’s showing up when she needs it, even if she thinks she doesn’t. Their connection is probably deeper than we have been shown.
Christina: I think Tyrone shows up for Tandy when she doesn’t even know when she needs it. He feels that connection and is drawn to Tandy when she’s in trouble or is feeling uneasy.
Jess: It feels like Ty is always showing up when Tandy finds herself in situations that could get her into trouble. I think it relates to the idea that they compliment each other and balance each other out – their connection always brings them together when they most need each other.
Malasha: Tyrone shows up when Tandy is getting too close to something or when she’s involved in something that could cause more problems than anything. Once they learn how to better control their powers, they’ll be able to use them in a cohesive way so that it doesn’t cause conflict when they’re apart. I love how they’re slowing learning about the effects they have on each other though.

4. Ty missed the game-winning shot, but he didn’t seem upset about the loss. How do you think seeing the other players’ fears affected him?
Kimberly: I JUST LOVE TY…there I said it!!! He’s such a good kid, and he felt bad for the other players as did I. So I was happy when he missed the shot. It’s just another example that shows Ty is a nice person.
Haley: I think it made him realize that they’re people with fears not like him. Not just someone he’s playing against but someone whose life may be affected by his choices.
Christina: Ty missing the shot definitely had to do with what he saw from the players, especially the dad beating his son for not winning. Ty did not want that fear to come true.
Jess: I definitely think Ty threw the game on purpose. After seeing how unfairly the referee was treating the players on the other team, and seeing how violent the players’ fears were, he ultimately decided that they deserved the win (which was such a sweet move).
Malasha: One of the most intriguing things about Ty to me is his ability to always want to do good. He’s constantly trying not to get into trouble and help others. He said earlier in the episode that he didn’t love basketball as much as he used to. It was nice to see him view all of their fears and then decide that they needed the win more than he did.

5. Some choice words were spoken to O’Reilly. What kind of demons, if any, from her past, do you think may come into play for her now?
Kimberly: Detective O’Reilly??? Even though I like her and I “think” Ty and Tandy can trust her, she’s still a mystery and I’m still trying to figure out her past and why she left Harlem for New Orleans.
Haley: I think she’s is going to know of someone who once had the powers Tandy and Tyrone now have.
Christina: I think she’s seen and be involved in a lot of intense stuff in her cop life. As a personal life, I think she connected to what happened with Tandy because she herself went through it. Which I think is another reason she did not to drop what happened to Tandy.
Jess: I think the things she got into working undercover may definitely come into play or will be used against her, like the drug use.
Malasha: I, for sure, think some of her past is going to come into play. I was surprised by some of her scenes in this episode, but I think she’s ultimately a good cop. Something personal is tethering her to Tandy and Tyrone.

6. Evita told Ty that she “pays attention”. She knows what’s going on with him. How much do you think Evita will play into him gaining more control of his powers?
Kimberly: Now I don’t know about y’all but there was A LOT OF SHOOK worthy revelations from the episode and Evita knowing about Ty is one of them. I’m shocked that she knew about his powers but I still trust her and I think she will be the one to help Ty understand his power and get some control over them.
Haley: I think she knows more about his powers than she’s letting on. I think she’s going to try to be there for him as his girlfriend but also someone who’s going to try and give advice for his powers.
Christina: Evita has been dropping so many hints this season already. I think Evita will take Ty back to her Aunt sometime. Their family seems to be connected with the ‘divine pairings’ of the past.
Jess: I definitely think eventually Evita is going to find out about his powers, but probably won’t have as good of an understanding of them as Tandy might. I do still think that Ty will look to Evita for support as he continues to figure out how to his powers.
Malasha: I like Evita, but I’ve been suspicious of her since the beginning. I feel like she wants to help Ty with whatever is happening to him, but I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Hopefully, her aunt will come back into play soon and we can figure out what that doll situation was about.

Kimberly: I LOVE the mystery part of the episode!! I loved that Tandy went undercover to find out more about Roxxon and the head honcho behind the company. She was basically a detective and I’m all for it.
Haley: My favorite part of the episode was seeing how their powers progressed as time went on.
Christina: My favorite part of the episode was Tandy using her powers more and seeing how she can jump from person to person to see their hopes. As always, Cloak & Dagger had amazing visuals.
Jess: My favorite part might have to be the scene where Ty teleports to Tandy at the Roxxon event, and she eventually helps him teleport back to the basketball game by pushing him over the railing and into the fountain. I laughed at the possibility that it wasn’t even going to work and he was just going to be sitting there in the fountain in front of all those people, but ultimately it did work and I thought it was so cool how Tandy was able to help him learn about how his powers work!
Malasha: I loved the scenes where they touch someone and they can see the hopes and fears. The music is always so well paired in these scenes and the energy of them is so good. Tandy swiftly moving through the party viewing everyone’s hopes was so fun to watch. Tyrone’s visions of the players’ fears had so much meaning in such a small amount of time. I really love those moments.

Just because you have these powers, doesn’t mean you should use them
Cloak & Dagger is starting to get even more interesting but in a subtle way. We can honestly say that we’re still trying to figure a lot of things out, but it feels like it will be worth it in the end. We love that Tandy is figuring out how to gain control of her powers, but it seems like she’s also forcing Tyrone to get a handle on his as well. She’s still using her powers in ways that could get her into some trouble, and we are speculating that’s the reason Tyrone is always showing up around her. She needs him more than she knows, so she should definitely get used to having him around.

Evita finally revealed that she knows more than she’s let on about Tyrone. We don’t know how deeply she knows what’s going on with Ty, but we can’t wait to see how she plays into the use of his abilities. We’re still suspicious of her, but her character gets more interesting by the episode. Her cryptic lines and interesting family member are bringing something good to the story. It should be interesting to see how she helps him. Each week more and more questions service, like Billy’s friend being involved with Conners. We excited for the next installment and can’t wait to see what unravels with Tyrone and Tandy next!
