The scientist and the criminal
As Cloak & Dagger opens, Evita (Noelle Renee Bercy) is meeting with her aunt, who is doing another reading after smelling a connection to a power from Evita spending time with Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph). Throughout the episode Auntie Chantelle (Angela M. Davis) is telling the story of the divine. She mentions that every time the same pattern has occurred. She thought that it would be different this time but it seems like the same pattern will occur– one will live and one will die.
Tandy (Olivia Holt) has conned her way into an intern position at Roxxon, where she will work for Mina Hess (Ally Maki). They spend the day walking through swamps, while Tandy asks questions about the rigs. They find out that one of the valves were purposely put in the wrong place. Tandy inquires about the rig explosion and learns that the reason it exploded was that Roxxon was drilling for something that burns 10 times quicker than oil. After asking too many questions about Mina’s father and Roxxon, Mina realizes that she’s Tandy. Even after Mina dismisses her, Tandy shows up to visit Mina’s father. She lets Tandy talk to him and when she touches him, she sees a hope that’s blocked.

Tyrone is trying to find out what Duane (Dalon J. Holland) is up to, so he follows some boys around that are selling drugs for Duane. Tyrone decides to get a backpack from one of the guys and ends up almost getting caught up in the rush. After using the man’s fears against him, he manages to get the backpack for Duane. When he tells Duane, he decides to take Tyrone on a ride with him. Once they get back to the garage, O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) and Connors (J.D. Evermore) are on their way there. Connors decides to use Duane to kill O’Reilly because he knows she’s getting too close to the truth. But before Duane can shoot O’Reilly, she kills him as Tyrone watches. Tyrone gets chased by Connors but before he can shoot him, he cloaks his way back to Tandy’s church.

1. Which scene or piece of information was your favorite from this week’s episode?
Kimberly (@candypie22): Hands down my favorite scene was seeing Ty use his power!! I was ready to see how it would look to use someone’s nightmares against them– it was EPIC, but scary AF.
Haley (@lucifersearp): My favorite piece of the episode is that we got to learn more about Roxxon.
Val (@spideysunwin): As a fan, the end scene with Tyrone and Tandy was probably my favourite though heartbreaking, it showed a real development as far as their relationship is concerned, especially for Tandy who literally couldn’t care less about anyone else, let alone a stranger like Ty when they first met (she literally left him to find his own way home in the middle of nowhere) to now, where we see the genuine fear and worry when Ty showed up unannounced and in emotional distress.
Sam (@hansonswaugh):.I wouldn’t call it my favorite but it was very interesting. When Evita’s aunt was flipping over those cards. We found out that one of the divine pairing dies and the other lives. By the figure that is on that shelf, we can guess that there is a possibility that Tyrone might die — which I hope not.
Noelle (@archiebettyotp): Finding out Duane was there when Billy got shot and that’s why he is working for Conners.

2. Mina said that Roxxon wasn’t drilling for oil and that’s the reason the rig exploded. What do you think it is that Roxxon was drilling for?
Kimberly: I seriously have no idea what Roxxon was drilling for…time to put my Sherlock Brain to use and start finding some information.
Haley: I think Roxxon is drilling for some kind of fuel for the “wheel” Tandy and Tyrone are going to have to face.
Val: Scarborough seems like a very greedy man if Tandy’s glimpse into his hopes are anything to go by so as Mina said, I assume they’ve found a new energy source better than oil and he’d probably stop at nothing to acquire it, even if it leads to the deaths of many. I reckon it’s probably a strong otherworldly power that they’ve discovered and shouldn’t mess with.
Sam: I have no idea. But by what we’ve seen we know that it will lead to mass destruction. Connecting to what we’ve learned about Roxxon and what they’ve done then connecting what we know now about the future. Things are not going to end well.
Noelle: Natural gas, maybe? I don’t know but whatever it was, I bet it’s worth a lot of money. I think the explosion happened on purpose, they could have stopped drilling but they didn’t.

3. Evita’s aunt mentioned a danger for the divine. What danger do you think is coming for Ty and Tandy?
Kimberly: I think the danger coming for Ty and Tandy is Roxxon. We know that Roxxon has something to do with Tandy’s dad’s death and I’m thinking that the boss of Roxxon has Conners on his payroll.
Haley: I think whatever “the wheel” is, is going to be the danger. And if Roxxon is fueling it like I believe, their danger will be within Roxxon.
Val: I think the danger Ty and Tandy face is linked with whatever Mina and Roxxon are digging for will not end well for the city, maybe unleash something greater than the city will be able to handle and one of them may have to be sacrificed to restore the balance. (I’m getting way into this voodoo mess lol)
Sam: As both Ty and Tandy go further down the paths they are going down to find answers it will both lead them to those answers and put more danger in their ways. If they didn’t have the powers that they have what they are doing could have gone completely different. But the fact that they are divine because of that one day when they were kids not only do they have very human problems but divine/other worldly problems. Teens can barely handle their lives without being divine (I would know) so imagine that with something you can even begin to understand.
Noelle: I think because of next episode them going into the mind of Ivan Hess is going to mess with things, not to mention Tyrone’s storyline with Conners is heating up and Tandy’s storyline with Roxxon Corp is too and they are both connected.

4. Tyrone is taking Tandy’s advice and using people’s fears against them. Do you think this is a positive development in the use of his powers?
Kimberly: In last night episode we saw that Tandy hesitated, choosing not to violate Mina’s privacy while Ty went for it when it came to scaring away Duane’s drug dealer. I think in this case I was okay with Ty using his powers since the drug dealer was about to pull out a gun. But down the road, I think Ty should be careful how he uses his power.
Haley: I think he’s finally coming to terms that he has been given these powers for a reason and needs to use them because of that.
Val: All this time, Tyrone seeing other people’s fears has only benefited those people. I think this offers Tyrone another addition to a power that will benefit him also, along with his teleporting. But we know Ty won’t let it get to his head, he’s too sweet and caring to misuse his power. :’)
Sam: I think it is positive. It’s teaching him to use his powers and he is starting to gain more control of them in away. He’s finding his answer and own thing that he had absolutely no clue about in any way. I think the only bad thing is is that what he’s doing can lead him to more danger. To things that it hurts him to know and lead him to that certain future.
Noelle: Yes, I really do. I am really glad he started taking her advice. Use what you got. He needs answers and this is the way to get them. Tyrone might not always agree with what Tandy has done but in the end, he has these powers so why not use them but at what cost is the question.

5. Ty suggested that Tandy make a new friend in Mina. After seeing them together, do you think Mina and Tandy’s relationship will grow from here?
Kimberly: We’ve seen a side of Tandy in her interactions with Mina that we’ve never gotten to see before. I’d love for them to grow their friendship, and for Tandy to foster that scientific mind of hers (Fingers Crossed).
Haley: I think that they’ll work together to take down Roxxon while gaining trust and respect from one another.
Val: I hope the hell it does. I think Mina will be willing to give Tandy a second chance after she came to see her with her dad and I hope their friendship only grows from there because Tandy needs a strong female relationship in her life and Mina doesn’t seem to have other friends. And along with sharing a past, I really think they could be there for each other. I LOVE THEM!!
Sam: I think that their relationship will grow. As we saw Tandy was going to use her powers but she stopped. So far we have not seen Tandy do that. They seemed to enjoy each other company. And because of Roxxon both of them had to go through these big life changes. Plus I think them being friends will be good for Tandy. As we’ve seen she doesn’t really have someone to talk to besides Tyrone who she mainly talks to about their powers. Mina and Tandy being friends can help her with answers and have someone there for her.
Noelle: Yes, I do. I think Mina is a good person and she knows Nathan Bowen didn’t cause the explosion and hopefully, that will motivate her to help Tandy on her quest to getting to the truth and what better person to have then someone on the inside.

6. Evita’s Aunt said, “One will live and one will die.” How do you think Tandy and Tyrone will be able to change the past’s pattern?
Kimberly: Clarisse tells Evita that either Tyrone or his partner in the divine pairing has to die and now I’m scared for our dynamic duo!! I have no idea what this means…I’m just worried now that Evita might get caught in the crossfire and Ty might lose another person he cares about and I can’t take Ty being sad…it makes me SAD!!
Haley: I think that they’re going to find this connection within one another that protects them from that. It’s not a “me and you” but more of an “us” between the two.
Val: Well we’re in the 21st century now, we think differently to those that came before us and Tandy and Tyrone are very intelligent individuals, I think when they come together, they can use their minds to figure out how to beat the system. But then again, you can’t fool a tradition that is thousands of years old so who knows, I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.
Sam: I have no clue!
Noelle: First off, that line gave me the chills and then I proceeded to freak out and think Tyrone will be the one to die. although I can’t imagine them both dying. I think now working together more on Roxxon Corp & Conners & finding the connections between the two could stop what is coming. Roxxon Corp needs to be stopped or another disaster will happen that only Tyrone & Tandy can stop. It’s their journey.

7. Duane was blackmailed by Connors into dealing drugs, which lead to his death. How do you think this will affect Tyrone?
Kimberly: This is the second time Ty has had to watch someone he cares about get shot and killed by a police officer. It’s also the second time the blood is on Connors’ hands. This incident just further Ty’s pain…which we see when he jumps to Tandy’s church and she couldn’t even confront him (I’m an emotional wreck). Ty literally broke down and I wasn’t ready for it.
Haley: I think it’s going to make him lose his trust in O’Reilly.
Val: Tyrone sees the same cop responsible for his brother’s death essentially kill someone who he probably saw as another brother growing up. If his hatred for Connors wasn’t prominent, it’s about to intensify immensely for sure. I just hope Ty doesn’t do anything rash or impulsive as a result.
Sam: Again, I have no clue. It could be anything.
Noelle: I saw this coming I knew Connors was setting Duane up to die and even though I’m mad at Duane for what he is or was doing. It hurt me to see him be killed, I didn’t want that. This is really going to way heavy on Tyrone and further push him to take down Conners. Maybe we will see a darker side of Tyrone. I think for Tyrone watching Duane be killed was like watching his brother being killed all over again.

The truth never occurred to me
We learned some new information in this week’s Cloak & Dagger! Apparently, the divine pair is headed towards doom. They’re both getting more powerful by the episode, but with these powers will come a price. Hopefully, the two can find a way to break the pattern that Auntie Chantelle mentioned.
“Funhouse Mirrors” was one of the best hours of Cloak & Dagger so far this season. The writing is exceptional with so many amazing lines. Kudos to Jenny Klein and J. Holtham for giving us this great episode that moved the plot along in the best way! The directing is also so good. From all of the scenes between Tandy and Mina to final heartbreaking moments. When Tyrone cloaks himself back to the church and we see both him and Tandy in a haze– it was so perfectly shot. It was both heart-wrenching and cool to see Tandy try to comfort him but unable to touch him. Makes us wonder how they’ll get past that because their chemistry is amazing and they have to be able to touch at one point, right?

Finding out that Roxxon was drilling for something other than oil wasn’t a huge shocker, but knowing that it burns 10 times quicker than oil is! Tandy’s slowly finding out what happened that night. We cannot wait to see Ty and Tandy team up and help Mina’s dad in next week’s episode! It’ll be interesting to see the new ways they get to utilize their powers.
