Jason disobeys orders in favor of he and the team saving Clay from a deadly situation!
SEAL Team 1×12 “The Upside Down” on CBS was dishing out the feelings as Jason (David Boreanaz) struggled with moving back home for good. Something that Alana (Michaela McManus) is strongly against until he is no longer a SEAL. In the midst of his home situation, Jason offers Clay (Max Thieriot) a bit of advice about Stella and a lifelong commitment, and Ray (Neil Brown Jr.) is still struggling with his shoulder injury that may still be a bit of an issue.

Things turn from bad to worse as the team’s mission to retrieve a drone is put on the back burner in order to save Clay’s life. Jason goes against direct orders after Clay falls into a basement and is trapped. With a group of enemies closing in on him fast. Was Clay in danger because of Ray being in the field with an injury? What will Stella have to say to Clay’s proposal? Will there be repercussions to Jason disobeying direct orders in order to save a member of his team?

1. What did you think of Clay telling Ray to leave him in the basement and continue the mission?
Micha (@ciaomichaella): It made me think that perhaps Clay is growing and becoming part of the team. Perhaps he’s learning about seeing the bigger picture and not just being all about himself like in the past.
Andrea (@Andrea_Colanni): Clay definitely isn’t the same guy that we first saw. He has grown so much and has truly learned what it means to be part of a team. As much as I hated what him being so selfless could have meant, I was still proud that he did it.
Manuela (@yellowhat3): I thought it was Clay trying to show that he won’t hold back on the team and he even told Ray he had his six. This scene was important to bring out Clay’s character growth. He isn’t whiny about being hurt and he also learned from the drills. You’re only as strong as your weakest link. So he made sure to step up and keep doing his job. Jason also showed a lot of confidence in his ability, insisting Ray let Clay manage his close quarter situations. Well done!
Bryna (@Becoming_Bryna): Clay was stepping up to the challenge, understanding that Ray or others could be compromised if they tried to help him. Kudos to Clay!
Marilyn (@Marilyn72568293): On one hand, this made it clear that Clay completely understand what it means to be a SEAL. But the flipside of that is the fact that I would have been devastated if he had sacrificed himself for the good of the mission. So, I get it and I’m proud of him, but I hate that it has to be done sometimes.

2. Do you think Ray’s shoulder injury impacted the mission at all this week? Or was he really okay to return to missions?
Micha: I’m so worried about Ray’s shoulder injury. It’s only a matter of time until something comes up that puts him and the rest of the team in grave danger. Ray, please get that shoulder healed up 100%!
Andrea: I’m not sure if it really impacted the mission this week, but things would have been even more disastrous if it had been Ray that fell. I definitely don’t think he was okay to return to missions.
Manuela: Honestly, if Ray was feeling any discomfort at all, he did an awesome job compartmentalizing the pain! He was perfect during the whole mission so I don’t think his shoulder presented an issue. The only time I winced a bit was when they were finally finished with the mission because the moment the camera was on Ray’s face I thought I saw a hint of pain in his eyes.
Bryna: I think if he was near that hole with Clay and had to pull him out, they would be in a world of hurt. When he put the computer down in the briefing he seemed to have issues with his shoulder. It did not directly affect this trip, but why run the risk?
Marilyn: Maybe not this week, but the time is certainly coming when it will. It got to the point where I felt relief that it was Clay that fell and not Ray. The already bad situation would have been ten times worse if it had been Ray that had fallen.

3. Clay had a pretty close call. Were you worried the team might not be able to get him out?
Micha: Not really. I mean, they aren’t going to kill Jason’s heir apparent, right?
Andrea: That’s a hard one because this show really doesn’t follow any rules. I’m pretty sure they won’t ever kill off Jason or Clay. Pretty sure. But that doesn’t stop me from briefly worrying sometimes. I definitely don’t trust the show!
Manuela: Nope. This will not be a thought to ever cross my mind. I loved it when Mandy knew that Jason would disobey the general’s orders!
Bryna: Not worried. These guys are a well oiled machine, and Clay is falling right into the family.
Marilyn: I would love to say that I wasn’t worried at all. Clay’s a lead character right? But I also thought Brian was going to be a lead character, and look how that turned out! This show is very stressful at times! You just never knew when someone is going to be killed off.

4. Alana told the kids she wouldn’t get back with Jason until he was no longer a SEAL. Do you think this will close the door on their relationship?
Micha: The state of Alana and Jason’s relationship feels like something that will drag on for the rest of the season. They’ve been married a long time, so it’s hard to decide to just end it. But they’ve clearly experienced some issues in their marriage which has left them separated. They need to put in some serious work in couples counseling, get to the root issues, and then make a decision.
Andrea: First, I think it’s ridiculously unfair that she would tell the kids that. Being a SEAL isn’t just a job for Jason. It’s part of who he is. That isn’t something you can just shut off. Besides that, I really wish they would call it quits and then Jason can explore his chemistry with Mandy.
Manuela: I think that people say things in the heat of the moment and when they are upset, which ultimately can be diffused. I believe that Alana handled the situation very well and Jason believes that she has really made her peace with the fact that she is married to a SEAL.
Bryna: Being a SEAL is who he is. So I think it would be a major bone of contention.
Marilyn: I definitely think her saying that could close the door on their relationship for good. Jason loves his job and Alana clearly hates it. There is no chance that Jason will give up being a SEAL anytime soon.

5. Was it Clay’s close call that made him propose to Stella, or is he really ready for that type of commitment?
Micha: It’s hard to say that his brush with death didn’t factor into the proposal. I found it interesting that he had a bum knee at the exact moment when he should be getting down on one knee. I wonder if that’s a bad omen for the future of their relationship.
Andrea: I really want these two to make it work. Truly. But they haven’t known each other nearly long enough to get married. I absolutely think that Clay’s close call and Jason’s advice were what made Clay make the decision. Times of high stress like that shouldn’t be when you decide to propose to your girlfriend.
Manuela: Great question! I kind of like the personality they gave Stella. Tough, but very caring. But I think Clay has too much on his plate now to add to it with this. He is still establishing himself on the team and although Stella may be good for him in the long run, maybe he acted too quickly because of his close call.
Bryna: I think it was his close call that caused him to propose. His relationship with his father is strained and he lost his best bud, so he is alone outside of his SEAL family. I still don’t trust the girlfriend. I have a feeling she is in this relationship with ulterior motives.
Marilyn: Clay and Stella’s relationship has moved along really strangely. It has also been really quick and a marriage proposal really wasn’t the answer in my opinion. Even if Clay did want to take Jason’s advice, he should still take time after the traumatic experience he has had and really think about it.

6. Should Jason move back home for good, or should he finally begin to let go of his relationship with Alana?
Micha: I feel like Jason really wants to move back home but Alana has some unresolved issues, preventing her from letting him back in. They should go to couples counseling and work things out.
Andrea: With all the issues these two clearly have between them, Jason moving back in would be a terrible idea. It wouldn’t take any time before the two of them were fighting again and putting themselves right back to square one with each other.
Manuela: Jason and Alana need to work things out. She really knows how to bring out his human, non SEAL side. Now he is even opening up a bit about his missions. I’m hoping for the best! I believe that Jason should move back home for good.
Bryna: They both need to figure out what they want. They are on an emotional roller coaster right now and they need to take their time and figure it out. Do not rush it.
Marilyn: At this point, the issues they have with each other just don’t seem fixable. So Jason definitely shouldn’t be moving back in at this point. Things just never seem to work for these two, so maybe they both need to sit down and talk about really being done with their marriage.

7. Danny wants a relationship and Lisa seems a bit hesitant. Do you think she will end things with Danny or take the plunge into a relationship?
Micha: I can get behind this ship. I really like Lisa and Toni Trucks, who plays her. Having a relationship with Danny would give us a better glimpse at Lisa Davis as a whole person instead of just her at work. I want to know more about her character and where this relationship arc takes her.
Andrea: The way Lisa hesitates to jump in with Danny is completely understandable. But I think she will take the plunge and give things a shot. The chemistry between the two of them is clearly explosive and they could have a great relationship. But they’ll never know if they don’t at least give it a try.
Manuela: I identify with her character so much! I love Davis! As long as Danny is submissive and not trying to dictate the next move or Lisa’s actions in any way, she might stay in the relationship. I just don’t know how long this honeymoon period will last. Maybe he might also start having nightmares about when he was deployed and this could send things in a tailspin. This might even bring Sonny and Davis closer? I’m loving this budding storyline!
Bryna: She is taking it nice and slow. Danny seems to be pushing it a little hard. So it will be interesting to see what happens!
Marilyn: I kind of ship Davis and Sonny. But if Danny is what she needs right now, then I’m all for that too. There is a chance it could ultimately lead her to Sonny as well, so I’m game!

Final Verdict: These relationships have us going in all different directions, especially since we’re still waiting to see a few of Mandy’s!
We love that Jason and Alana are coming to some sort of decision on their relationship. It may not be the one we want to see, but at least they are doing something. Clay proposing Stella was a little bit of a surprise, but we definitely aren’t convinced it was a good one. Then there is Davis, who seems like she might really be ready to jump into something with Danny. But what about Mandy? We never see anything of her home life, and it would be especially great to see what type of relationship situation she is looking at. Especially when the focus seems to be on the others at the moment. When is it going to be her turn?

The main idea of this show is about the team and how they deal with things while on missions and while at home. But there seems to be more drama on the home front than there is on the missions! Missions that deal with nuclear weapons. That seems a little crazy. While we understand that the drama is closely related to being SEALs, things still get a little convoluted at times with the relationships at home. The back and forth between Jason and Alana is also getting to be a little much, with no sign of an end in sight.
Next week things are going to be all about the mission as the team’s deployment date is moved forward. As in, the team has to leave immediately! The team already on site has been ambushed and it’s up to Jason’s team to complete the mission. Will this mean Jason and Alana will have to come to a decision about their future sooner rather than later? What about the proposal Clay has made to Stella? Is there a marriage in their future or not? Find out next week!
