This mission will require steady hands and slow movements as the team moves some nukes!
SEAL Team 1×11 “Containment” on CBS had us feeling the pressure as Sonny (AJ Buckley) was made Jason’s(David Boreanaz) second in command due to Ray (Neil Brown Jr.) being out of commission because of a shoulder injury. This wasn’t the best time to be switching things up as their new mission required them to safely move a few truckloads of nuclear warheads. While Clay (Max Thieriot) is truly learning to integrate himself into the team, they all have to worry about an impending ambush that could easily have results of massive destruction!

On the homefront, we had Alana (Michaela McManus) trying to get Jason’s support to not allow their daughter to go to a party. It’s a recipe for disaster and Alana knows it. Since she is left to make most of the decisions because Jason is always on missions, she needs him to back her up on this one. Jason eventually agrees, but like a typical teen, Emma goes to the party anyway. While Emma is being released after her underage drinking arrest, Jason tells Alana he wants to come home.
Let’s meet our roundtable and have them break it down!

1. Did you think Emma should’ve been allowed to go to the party, or were Jason and Alana right in their decision?
Andrea (@Andrea_Colanni): Emma definitely shouldn’t have been allowed to go to the party. Alana was totally right there. But, they also should have expected her to sneak out and go anyway. Hasn’t pretty much every teen done that at one time or another?
Bryna (@Becoming_Bryna): Off site party with a college freshman dude? Definitely stay at home.
Betsy (@RobarBetsy): That’s a hard one, because look at what happened anyway. Even though Emma was told no, she went anyway and got in trouble. So her parent’s answer didn’t mean much anyway. Maybe they should have sat her down and told her why they didn’t want her to go, or set some ground rules and let her.
Pam (@CharlesonPamela): Kids do stupid things, especially teenagers. But Emma clearly didn’t respect her parents enough to respect their decision. I certainly wouldn’t have been racing down to the police station to get her. She should have stayed there for the night!
Marilyn (@Marilyn72568293): Clearly their answer didn’t matter anyway. But I don’t think she should have went. Look what happened when she did! She got into a car with other kids who had been drinking and she had been drinking herself. It’s pretty obvious she isn’t responsible enough to handle any type of party.

2. Did Jason make the right call in keeping Ray off the latest mission because of his shoulder?
Andrea: I’m going to be the one with the unpopular opinion and say no. Jason seemed less worried about the injury itself and more concerned with trying to force Ray to get it checked out. Well, that obviously didn’t work anyway. So Ray should have just gone on the mission.
Bryna: Heck yes! You cannot be in full SEAL mode, injured. It would put you and your team at risk. I did miss him on this outing. I loved how the ‘new number two’ had to ‘ease down on the anger’!
Betsy: If it was an injury that could cost him or his teammates their lives, then yes. But maybe Jason should have approached the situation differently. Make Ray get his shoulder checked out before the op. But maybe there wasn’t time for that. Jason usually does the best he can.
Pam: Well, at the end of the day, Jason is the leader and he makes the call. Even if the injury wasn’t that serious, if Jason thought Ray should sit that one out, then Ray needed to sit that one out. Jason isn’t a doctor, so he had no way of knowing how serious Ray’s shoulder was hurt.
Marilyn: I don’t know. I suppose Jason had to make the call right then and there with the knowledge that he had. They had to leave for a mission and Ray’s shoulder was bothering him. So Jason made the best decision he could and told Ray to take the opportunity to see a doctor. It seems like it was the best call. Even though Ray didn’t listen anyway.

3. Clay seems to be integrating himself into Jason’s team well. What do you think of his relationships within the team?
Andrea: I love that Clay is doing so well within the team! This is the first episode that I have really felt that he was just like the rest of the team. It was done so well that I almost forgot about all the struggles Clay faced to get where he is!
Bryna: I like seeing them form. Clay is excellent at what he does. He’s fighting his inner self and his dad’s baggage at the same time, which sometimes makes him seem arrogant when he’s not trying to be. Once he gets past that, he will flow nicely with the team.
Betsy: I really like seeing Clay’s interactions with Jason. I have a feeling that if we got some flashbacks to Jason when he was Clay’s age, they would act almost exactly alike. It’s clear there is a bond forming there, no matter how hard Jason tries to fight it.
Pam: Clay is doing his best to fit in, I just hope he isn’t trying to be someone he isn’t. I hope he isn’t pretending to act a certain way just to fit in better with the rest of the guys. I suppose only time will tell!
Marilyn: I like Clay and Sonny. They crack me up! The interactions between Clay and Jason are getting pretty great as well. I think overall, Clay is just a really great character and I love that we get to see him explored a bit more each week.

4. We were pretty confident in believing the team would make it back to the hanger safely, but do you always worry about someone being killed off?
Andrea: I feel like this show is giving me anxiety! Part of me knew that Sonny was going to be fine, but the other part was afraid he was going to die! I’m the same way with heights, so I totally got where he was coming from. It would be just like this show to have used that as an opportunity to kill him off. I don’t trust them!
Bryna: Yes! Always! After the SEAL in training had the parachute that didn’t open, now I’m very nervous!
Betsy: My common sense always makes me feel confident that they won’t kill the main characters off. But then I remember Brian and a little bit of doubt starts creeping up and I begin worrying about all of them! It’s kind of stressful, but I love it!
Pam: I thought there was a small chance Sonny was going to be a goner. They made it so obvious in the preview that it was going to be a highly dangerous mission. That seems like an understatement! I have never watched a show that made you genuinely think the main characters could die.
Marilyn: I love this show, but sometimes I hate it! They really had me thinking that Sonny wasn’t going to make it home. Then there was the preview for next week that shows Clay trapped. Now I’m concerned about him!

5. Do you think Ray is telling the truth about his shoulder being good to go now? Or do you think he is lying to get back on missions?
Andrea: He definitely didn’t go to the doctor. But he could be telling the truth that his shoulder feels better. Or he could even be lying to himself and telling himself it is going to be fine. Ray has been the honest one since the beginning, it’s hard for me to believe he’s becoming a liar.
Bryna: Nope. I think he never went to the doc. I think due to the money pressures, he wants to get back out there. He misses his team most of all.
Betsy: Ray is totally lying. He wants back on the missions and that’s great. But he’s putting his whole team at risk by doing so. They are all so used to him being the most honest that none of them will even doubt him. That’s really selfish of him.
Pam: It’s so unlike him, but I think he’s lying. People who are in need of money do stupid and desperate things. That doesn’t make them right, but he does have a family he’s trying to support. Maybe he really thinks it isn’t that bad.
Marilyn: They certainly made it seem like Ray never went to the doctor. We also know he wants back on the missions because he needs the money. But would he really put any of the other SEALs in danger? That kind of seems like something Clay would be more likely to do. Not out of anything less than telling himself he is fine when he clearly isn’t.

6. Do you think we will be seeing more of Danny? What about him buying Davis a drink at the end?
Andrea: We better! I really like him! It’s about time that Lisa has herself some fun too! We need to see more of her life outside of being a SEAL and Danny seems like he may just be the key to that! I’m all for it!
Bryna: Yes, seems like Danny will be an interesting storyline! I am so programmed that now I think of ‘Danno’ when I see the name Danny. Totally different characters! This will be cool for SEAL Team!
Betsy: I really liked Danny and the air of mystery that came with him. When he bought Davis a drink at the bar at the end, I was swooning a little. That woman deserves some romance and if Danny is the answer to that, then heck yes I want to see more of him!
Pam: I haven’t really decided if I want to see more of Danny or not. Maybe a little more to at least see his character and decide if he’s someone I want to see more. There is a sense of danger around him that I’m not sure will be a good thing. As for he and Davis, I just don’t want to see her get hurt!
Marilyn: I’m a hopeless romantic, and Danny and Davis were absolutely adorable at the end. So, yes I would very much like to see more of him!

7. What do you think is next for Alana and Jason? Are they one step closer to getting back together?
Andrea: Unpopular opinion stepping in again. I am over Alana and Jason. I’m just going to sit over here in the corner and keep my fingers crossed for Mandy and Jason. They are much better suited for each other and I think Alana is a bit too high maintenance for what Jason needs.
Bryna: I think they are finally understanding each other. They still will need time to get back together. I love their chemistry!
Betsy: They seem to have taken a step in that direction. But Alana always seems so wishy-washy. One moment she wants to be with him, and the next she is saying she can’t. She’s giving me emotional whiplash, so I can’t imagine how she’s making Jason feel!
Pam: Hmm, I’m still not sure on this one. They are the type of couple that literally seem to take one step forward and two steps back. Sometimes more! Jason has made it pretty obvious what he wants. It’s Alana that can’t seem to figure out what exactly it is that she wants and needs from Jason.
Marilyn: I kind of thought they were going to decide it was time to just end things and be in each other’s lives for their kids. That doesn’t make me any less of a hopeless romantic! I’m just kind of leaning more towards Jason and Mandy! They seem to have some intense chemistry and it would be nice to at least see it explored a bit before we decide who we really ship!

Final Verdict: Sonny should operate as second in command more often, though we would never want anything bad to happen to Ray!
Clay couldn’t have made it any clearer that he is a part of this team than he did in this episode. He’s come a pretty long way since this show first began. It seems like forever ago we weren’t sure if we wanted to root for him or against him. Ray, on the other hand, seems to be making some dangerous personal decisions that could cost him or one of the others their life. The writers are keeping us hooked as these characters continue to reveal all of the dark corners of their lives and what they have to deal with outside of being a SEAL. It’s easy to forget that they are human too, and have lives of their own. The writers are sure to remind us often!

There were some pretty unbelievable things happening in this episode that had us a bit baffled. For one thing, we continue to see the home life of the SEALs more and more, but never Mandy. We aren’t even sure if she has a home outside of work at this point. Lisa is kind of getting to the same point. Though we did get a glimpse of her with Danny that was nice to see. It also seems a bit unbelievable for Ray to be acting the way he is about his shoulder. We know he’s having money problems, but he has been a constant pillar of intelligence and always seems to be the voice of reason. He should know better than to lie about something that could harm him or one of his teammates!
Things are heating up on the homefront and on their latest mission as Jason is asked to leave one of his own behind. When Clay gets caught in a situation he can’t snark his way out of, it’s up to Jason and the rest of the team to save him, despite orders to leave. Things between Jason and Alana seem to be taking on a whole new stage at home as Jason does something as domestic as grocery shopping with his family. But we’re sure things between him and Alana aren’t going to be that easy. They haven’t been once so far!
