We’ve seen the team at odds with each other a few times, but nothing like this!

SEAL Team 1×08, “The Exchange” on CBS had us taking sides with either Jason (David Boreanaz) or Sonny (AJ Buckley). An american soldier has been kidnapped after wandering into the desert. Sonny is convinced it’s a trap, but Jason refuses to leave him. Davis (Toni Trucks) is left telling Jason why Sonny is so upset with the op. The soldier cost Sonny a job. Jason isn’t the only one forced to reel him in as Ray (Neil Brown Jr.) offers a subtle warning as well. During the exchange between the soldier and three of the terrorists own men no less.

Back on the home front, Clay (Max Thieriot) moves into a new apartment with some help from Stella (Alona Tal). While this seems like a fun bonding moment for them, it turns around when they meet the neighbors. It’s a fellow SEAL and his girlfriend. While this may seem like it could be a good thing, the girlfriend doesn’t pull any punches when she gives Stella a bit of a reality check on what it’s really like being with a SEAL. Will Stella start changing her mind on being with Clay now that she is beginning to understand his job is truly dangerous?

1. Clay says he hasn’t thought about which team he wants to recruit him. But it’s more than likely Jason’s team. Don’t you think?

Micha (@ciaomichaella): Logically, Clay has to end up on Jason’s team. They’ve already established some sort of issue Jason has with Clay, and Clay has already been on a mission with Jason’s team. So it just makes sense. Also, it would be difficult for the storytelling to have Clay on a different team. I really feel like they’ve planted the seeds early on that sets up Clay as the heir apparent to Jason. He has to be on Jason’s team to learn from him. Both what to do and what not to do.

Laura (@Boneslvr38): Of course, Clay has thought about which team he wants to be on and the best team is Jason’s.

Rachel (@tickledbloo): For sure! I think that he has thought about being on Jason’s team from the start.

Kris (@foxyangel26): Clay and Jason seem very similar in character and Jason wants to help him mature as a SEAL. With his sense of competition, I don’t think he wants someone else to have him if Clay is one of the best.

Andrea (@Andrea_Colanni): It’s definitely Jason’s team. Clay has also definitely thought about it!

2. Jason says he’s just doing his due diligence, but do you think that’s true? Or is he being especially harsh on Clay?

Micha: There’s something about Clay that activates Jason’s spidey senses. From the get go it seemed like Clay hit something in Jason’s gut that made him take notice. Only time will tell for sure if it’s because Jason sees a lot of himself in Clay or if it’s something else.

Laura: A little. Jason is doing his due diligence, but I think he also just wants Clay to sweat.

Rachel: I kind of thought he was giving the other guys a bit of a hard time. I’m sure he is apprehensive due to Clay’s cocky attitude, but I think Clay kind of lost that chip on his shoulder in the last episode. Though, Jason wouldn’t really be aware of this yet.

Kris: I think it may be partially true that Jason is doing his due diligence. I think he wants to check every box and look at every angle. I also think he’s being a little harsh on Clay, but it’s more of a tough love situation.

Andrea: Just when you think Jason has finally accepted Clay, he does this! He is definitely being harsher on Clay than necessary! Especially because the others act ready to have Clay join them.

3. Jason’s team is well known and extremely successful, so why are the higher ups concerned with a leak within the team?

Micha: It’s probably just precaution - better safe than sorry. It’s much easier to contain a possible information leak with an imposed lockdown. If the higher ups issue an order and the team disobeys then the higher ups can wash their hands of a possible leak and just blame those lower on the food chain. Luckily, there didn’t seem to be any leak with the mission. And Sonny got his spicy chicken lol.

Laura: Not sure if the higher ups know about the team members past assignments, but maybe they were concerned about Sonny retaliating.

Rachel: I’m unsure about this. Perhaps due to Sonny’s issues with the hostage they were picking up?

Kris: Who better to blame than a highly successful team? Hopefully they will find the leak and the higher ups will see it’s not on Jason’s team. Jason would know if there was a leak on his team.

Andrea: This had me suspicious. There must be a leak somewhere, but Jason’s team is the last place it would be! I don’t know why they would think that for a second!

4. Davis once again proves what an intelligent bad ass she is by sneaking the team off base. Were you as impressed with her intelligence of the laws and willingness to break them as we were?

Micha: I love Lisa Davis! She’s one smart cookie. It was hilarious seeing the two guys pop out of her trunk and then have her rail on them for being AWOL and the kinds of trouble they could all be in. But she’s a team player so she has her brothers’ backs.

Laura: No, not really. You do what you do for your team.

Rachel: Impressed with her intelligence of laws? Yes. Impressed by her willingness to break them so two guys could eat chicken? Not so much. Seems frivolous and like she’s breaking the rules for a cheap cause.

Kris: Absolutely. She’s amazing and someone I would want to have my back when the chips are down.

Andrea: So impressed! Lisa has shown that she’s really not afraid to break any rules or laws. Not when it comes to her brothers!

5. Sonny seems to be a bit of a loose cannon in this episode. Davis explains to Jason why. Did it still surprise you how close to the edge he came?

Micha: I was a little concerned for Sonny. I’m glad Ray was with him to put him in check and Jason had full faith in him. The phone call towards the end of the episode makes me want to hear more about Sonny’s backstory. He’s a gold mine when it comes to choice one-liners, but there’s more to the character than just that.

Laura: No it didn’t surprise me that Sonny had those feelings. I would be more surprised if he didn’t.

Rachel: Not really, but only because he seems so emotionless most of the time. Perhaps it was because the hostage was tied to such an emotional event that he came so close to doing something crazy.

Kris: It was a very different side of Sonny’s character and I was surprised. He’s always the sarcastic, funny guy and this episode we saw how even the pain of war shows it’s scars on the funny guy.

Andrea: I was really surprised. We’ve spent so much time thinking of Sonny as the witty member of the team. Sometimes I think we forget that war has affected him too.

6. Stella seems to get hit with a bit of a truth bomb on what it’s like to be with a SEAL. How do you think this will affect the relationship between she and Clay?

Micha: Hopefully she’s not frightened away by it. I mean, she went apartment hunting with him and helped him move, and she met his neighbors. She seems like a smart woman, perhaps she’s calculated the pros and cons already and is ready for a relationship with a SEAL.

Laura: It will probably hurt their relationship once Clay starts going on more missions.

Rachel: This is a TV show, so it will be dragged on for dramatic value. I think she and Clay may end up like Jason and his wife. They’ll do fine for quite a long time, and then she won’t be able to take it anymore.

Kris: That hard reality may be more than she signed up for. But maybe she has developed strong enough feelings for Clay that she can give it a chance.

Andrea: I want to say that she’s intelligent enough to have known what she was in for. But the look on her face tells me that maybe she didn’t really think it through. It also tells me it’s definitely going to affect their relationship.

7. The mission is eventually successful but was touch and go for a few moments. Were you worried? Or were you confident that our team would once again be successful?

Micha: It was tense for a bit, but I knew the team would pull through. Otherwise, it kind of kills the flow of the show.

Laura: No, I wasn’t worried about the team not being successful.

Rachel: I thought for sure either Sonny or the Taliban would shoot the prisoner on the way to Jason. I’m glad it was a fairly smooth exchange though. It would’ve been hard to lose any cast members, which would have been an inevitability. I’m already attached to the core cast!

Kris: I was worried it was going to turn into a fire fight and somebody wasn’t going to make it. Thankfully it resolved with no bullets flying. But it didn’t look like it was going that way.

Andrea: I was super worried! They spent so much build up acting like the team was over prepared. Then it got so tense during the exchange, I thought for sure one of ours was going to get killed!

Final Verdict: The team worked through the tense situation, so now the only tough decision is whether or not they’ll be adding Clay to the team.

This episode wasn’t as action packed as a lot of others, but it definitely had a lot of emotional turmoil. The writers have been luring us in with not only Jason’s character, but Clay’s as well. We’ve watched him grow from a hot headed jerk to a more mature man. A man more than capable of being on Jason’s team. Jason just needs to get rid of whatever personal issue he really has with Clay and say yes. Especially since the rest of the team seems to be pretty okay with the idea of adding the young SEAL. We also can’t deny that Clay has earned his spot just like everyone else. Not only that, but he’s dealt with all the hits that have come his way. Maybe not always well, but he has definitely evolved from the person he was when we first saw him!

We’ve seen a various small reasons for Jason’s pretty obvious dislike of Clay, but it seems there is something deeper going on. So why haven’t we seen why yet? Or we could be all wrong and Jason really does just not like Clay. We certainly haven’t been given any straight answers. We feel it’s gone on long enough and it’s past time to call the animosity quits. Especially since Clay doesn’t seem to harbor or show any towards Jason. We will agree that his attitude sucked towards the team leader in the beginning, but he’s pretty well changed now. So either we need to be told what the real issue is here soon, or the whole thing needs to be let go. At this point, Jason is making himself look pretty immature about the whole thing and the roles have switched to Clay being the adult.

Animosity and all other issues aside, we are really rooting for Clay to be chosen for Jason’s team. We pretty much know that’s what is going to happen, but we can’t wait for the moment it does. Clay deserves to be a part of that team so badly, the anticipation is just about killing us! We’re also getting a little more insight and backstory on some of the other members of the team, and we’re here for it! What makes Sonny really tick, and what really ticks Sonny off? Seeing Ray play the part of family man like Jason is getting more and more interesting as well. As for Alanna and Jason, we can’t wait to finally get a conclusion on where they are with their relationship and whether or not they’re going to call it quits!
