Hello and welcome to another edition of Fantasy After Dark! In case you missed our last issue, here’s some of what you missed!
It was revealed that American Gods will have a new showrunner for season 2, Jesse Alexander. Alexander will take over the adaptation from Neil Gaiman’s novel after the creators and executive producers Bryan Fuller and Michael Green quit the series over issues with the production company. With Jesse Alexander as the new showrunner, we’ll see where the casting goes in weeks to come.
In other news, we can confirm we finally know the status of NBC’s Midnight Texas has been renewed for a second season!

Hot Topic: Once Upon A Time will reach its end and Michael Shannon cast in AMC’s Little Drummer Girl adaptation alongside Florence Pugh and Alexander Skarsgård!
That’s right, Once Upon A Time fans. The fantasy series from ABC will end this year with its current season 7, Deadline has confirmed. This comes after the series went through major casting changes when a number of its original cast left, and paired with lower ratings than usual. The president of ABC Entertainment considered an eight season but ultimately decided to end at season 7 and said:
“When we first heard Adam and Eddy’s pitch for Once Upon a Time, we knew it was something incredibly special. For seven years, they have captivated us with their creativity and passion while reimagining some of our most beloved Disney fairytales, creating an undeniable global hit. Saying goodbye will be bittersweet, but Once Upon a Time’ will forever be part of the ABC legacy and we can’t wait for fans to join us in this epic final chapter.”
Michael Shannon has been cast in the upcoming spy miniseries, Little Drummer Girl, from the BBC, AMC, and The Ink Factory, who also produced the hit The Night Manager. The AMC series will be a six-part adaptation of the book by John le Carre’s and directed by Park Chan-wook. Alexander Skarsgård and Florence Pugh have already been cast for the series and filming will begin this year.

We have some huge casting news for the Netflix reimagined Sabrina series! Doctor Who’s Michelle Gomez will join the series as Mary Wardell, Sabrina’s favorite teacher at Baxter High who will likely be her mentor as well. Chance Perdomo has also been cast as Ambrose Spellman, who will be Sabrina’s warlock cousin from England and cannot leave the funeral home he lives at with the rest of the Spellman women.

In more Netflix news, Guy Pearce of L.A. Confidential has been cast in a new British tee supernatural drama, The Innocents. It will be an eight-episode series produced by New Pictures and led by Charlie Pattinson, Elaine Pyke, and Willow Grylls. You can view a promo for the series below!
Four new faces have been cast recurring roles for season 3 of AMC’s Preacher. And they are Betty Buckley of Supergirl and Colin Cunningham of Blood Drive and Falling Skies for series regulars, and Jeremy Childs of The Last Castle, and Liz McGeever of Nashville!
Finally in casting news, Ser’Darius Blain of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been cast as the co-lead in The CW’s “feminist reboot” of Charmed from Jennie Snyder Urman, the creator and showrunner of Jane the Virgin. The new series will be set in the present time and Blain is slated to play Galvin, an aspiring filmmaker trying to catch a break and the boyfriend of one of the sisters.
Interviews: Danneel Ackles on guest starring on Supernatural alongside her husband!
Danneel Ackles spoke to Variety recently about what it was like to guest star on the ever-so-popular The CW series, Supernatural, that her husband, Jensen Ackles is on. Danneel appeared on the show as Sister Jo in the episode “Devil’s Bargain.” This is the first of a recurring stint as a guest star for Ackles.
She had this to say about her role as Sister Jo:
“She’s an extremely powerful faith healer — powerful enough that Lucifer finds out about her and is intrigued. He wants to elicit her help. She’s powerful enough that she’s able to negotiate with him, and that makes her different.”

Coming Soon: Freeform’s Siren and the teaser trailer has now been released!
Siren is a new series slated to be one of Freeform’s newest hits. It’s a mermaid thriller series starring Eline Powell as Ryn, and also starring Alex Roe as Ben and Fola Evans-Akingbola as Maddie. Siren is a coastal town of Bristol Cove that has a legend of being home to mermaids.
Siren airs its two-hour premiere on March 29th on Freeform. View the teaser trailer below!
