When minds intertwine and reveal the fears of another
Cloak & Dagger picks up right where they left off. Tandy (Olivia Holt) is just waking from her car crash and even though Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) has arrived to help her, she still decides she wants to leave town. We first see the after events told through Tandy’s perspective. She goes home and has an altercation with her mom but eventually ends up trying to escape town again. While on the bus to leave town, Tandy has another vision of a young Tyrone playing on the basketball court.
From Tyrone’s perspective, we see him go to the church to talk to his brother. He runs into Evita (Noëlle Renée Bercy)– who encourages him to meet his aunt. Once they meet, she does a reading on him. After telling him that he needs a cleansing bath, Tyrone decides to oblige and do as she says. When he’s in the bath, he gets sucked into another vision of a younger Tandy on the roof of the Roxxon Corp building.

In Tandy’s vision, she sees a young Tyrone and his brother be approached by his friends. They try to get Billy (Marqus Clae) to go with them to the car, but he declines and says he’ll stay with Tyrone. The scene then takes Tandy to a Tyrone where he’s seen going through multiple scenarios of what he can do about the guilt that he feels for his brother’s killing. Tandy manages to stop him and tells him to stop because none of them will work. Another option, in the form of Tandy’s dagger, appears in her hand and when Tyrone picks it up, it turns into handcuffs.
Tyrone’s vision begins with him saving a young Tandy from being electrocuted on the roof. He appears in the woods as Tandy watches her father in a room where he begins to get tortured by the other men. She goes through some scenarios that all end with her running away from the events. During it all, Tyrone is asking for her help and trying to get the men to stop torturing her father. He eventually grabs her with his cloaking powers and asks her to stop running. They end up on opposite sides of a stained glass window inside the church.
Tandy has decided to seek help from the detective and Tyrone has let Evita a little closer. These two are learning they can’t stay apart for much longer. Here to discuss this amazing take on an inception-like experience is our Cloak & Dagger roundtable :

1. Three episodes in and this show is only getting better! How much did you like this episode?
Kimberly (@candypie22): Cloak and Dagger continues to be EPIC in pulling me into the minds of Tandy and Tyrone through a voodoo cleansing ritual that brings them on a shared journey of self-discovery. Another great episode that leaves me wanting more…I see now Cloak and Dagger will be that show that will end on a cliffhanger every episode lol.
Haley (@lucifersearp): The show honestly still amazes me. Usually, the first episode has the hard-hitting points and then it kind of starts to slack. But once again I was left speechless multiple times.
Christina (@cherry_1027): Loved this episode! It gave more insight to Tandy and Tyrone going through their life and trying to figure out what these powers mean. So many parallels happened in this one! The music was fire as per usual. So excited for next week already! Aubrey said during his Instagram live stream that episode 4 is his favorite.
Jess (@irissknowles): I really enjoyed this episode! Getting to continue to learn more about Tandy and Tyrone as individuals, in addition to getting more scenes with them together, was great.
Noelle (@archiebettyotp): Very rarely does this happen but this show just got 10 times better with episode 3. They can do no wrong. It was perfection, how the scenes were executed, the acting, the emotions, the pain of losing someone. I was so immersed in it, I didn’t move once from the TV. I know it is only going to get even more epic from here.

2. Tandy’s mom protected her even when she didn’t know exactly what was going on with her daughter. Are you surprised at her actions in this episode?
Kimberly: I’m not surprised by Tandy’s mom helping her. I feel like in the near future Tandy will have to return the favor though. So Tandy’s mom didn’t help her out of the kindness of her heart but to hold that over Tandy for a favor down the road.
Haley: I wasn’t really surprised. In the beginning, I thought she was just trying to cover up all the drugs and pills that were probably still left out. But in the end, Tandy is still her daughter.
Christina: I actually am surprised by that. But in my mind, she didn’t let the detective in so that she could hide her own drug abuse, which is clearly visible in the living room. So, I’m not giving too much credit to Tandy’s mom. Oops.
Jess: I actually wasn’t surprised that Tandy’s mom protected her. Even though their relationship clearly has a lot of issues, I think Tandy’s mom does truly care about her and would protect her from any trouble she is in.
Noelle: Actually no. I do believe her mom truly loves Tandy but she is an addict plain and simple.

3. How do you feel about Evita? Is she a friend or a foe?
Kimberly: I actually love Evita, her determination to get past Tyrone’s walls that he has build up is sweet. I LOVED her tour (I would definitely go on that tour) and how she is willing to help Tyrone when he needs a good friend right now. Whatever happens between her and Tyrone, I hope she stays on the show for awhile until my real OTP comes through!! So to me, Evita is a friend!!
Haley: She gives me an odd feeling. I’m not quite sure what sides she’s on but I’m excited to find out.
Christina: Evita is something else. The girl clearly wants the boy. To me, she seems like a sheep in wolf’s clothing. But maybe I’ll be proven wrong as the season progresses.
Jess: I’m not sure how I feel about Evita just yet. She does seem sweet and clearly cares for Tyrone. At the same time, the way that she is constantly in Tyrone’s business and now the added suspicious behavior from her aunt in this episode, I am a little apprehensive about what her intentions will turn out to be.
Noelle: I have to admit the first episode I thought nothing of her but now it’s a different story. I’m finding it weird why she is so obsessed with Tyrone and why now? When I realized someone was listening to him as he was talking up to Billy and I saw it was her, that’s when I knew something is up with her. She is trying to gain Tyrone’s trust and get closer to him for some reason. I’m keeping an eye on her. Also, her auntie making that 3D figure of Tyrone before even meeting him is creepy. I just don’t know if it is bad or good. Maybe, Evita and her family are the protectors of the Cloak & Dagger or maybe they are here to put an end to all this, to Tyrone & Tandy, their powers, their connection, they want to destroy it.

4. The show did an amazing job of connecting these characters but also giving them their separate moments to shine. What are your thoughts on what the two learned about each other in their visions?
Kimberly: Tandy sees Tyrone’s hopes. Namely, his intense guilt over surviving when his brother did not. Tyrone is witness to Tandy’s nightmares and how she runs…again and again from those nightmares. Like Tyrone, she can’t break the cycle of pain. I loved that Tandy and Tyrone got to walk in each other shoes and see what the other has been going through. Just great storytelling in the episode…again Cloak & Dagger wants to hit me in the feels and I wasn’t ready!
Haley: I think that what they saw of each other in the visions is what is going to bring them together in further episodes. When you know stuff like that about a person it gives you a connection.
Christina: Tandy’s vision of Ty was so powerful! Ty choosing ways to get his revenge. Each scenario ends up with Tyrone in a bad consequence. (Especially since he’s a black man. I’m glad they showed what can actually happen to him in real life.) In the end, Tandy helped the Ty– it showcases that Tandy as Dagger needs to help Ty. When Tyrone gets into his vision, he sees a little girl version of Tandy. He protected her. Covered her… Like a cloak. (Yes, I got chills) Flash forward, Tyrone stops her from running. Anchors her. This has been the theme of the season so far. Tyrone getting Tandy to stop running. I’m glad they got to see each other’s demons to better understand how maybe they are connected. Both needed to try something different to get out. They go on separate journeys but connect at the end and are going to need each other. Tyrone is Tandy’s anchor and Tandy grounds Ty.
Jess: The vision scenes were definitely my favorite parts of the episode. In Tandy’s vision, I think she learned about the internal struggle within Tyrone about Detective Connors and finding justice for his brother. She learned that Tyrone has been trying to use violence to solve the problem, but realized that the real way to find justice is to outsmart and expose Connors to get him put away in prison. In Tyrone’s vision, he learned about some of the trauma Tandy has with her childhood and the loss of her father, and those influenced her tendency to run away from her problems. I think Tyrone realized that instead of running away, what Tandy instead needs to learn is to face her issues head-on if she wants to find peace.
Noelle: Honestly, those scenes were my favorite out of the whole episode. It was very much needed to see them exploring each other’s pain, fear, and anger. They both needed help and that help is each other. Their connection is getting stronger every day. They aren’t just connected because of what happened that night in the water but also because of his brother dying and her dad dying which is connected by Detective Connors and Roxxon Corp. I am very excited to see more of Tyrone & Tandy and them working together, trying to make sense of it all, trying to fix what has been broken, getting the truth out, finding justice for his brother and her dad.

5. Evita’s aunt printed a 3D figure of Tyrone. Do you think she knows more about Tyrone than what she lets on?
Kimberly: I trust Evita, so I trust her Auntie. But I definitely think the auntie knows that it’s something more to Tyrone. I’m ready/excited for more details on this part of the story!!!
Haley: I think she knows way more than she is letting on. At first, I thought maybe she was going to try and voodoo him, only to realize that she probably wouldn’t since it wasn’t a normal voodoo doll.
Christina: Oh, definitely! I think she’ll play a role in helping both Ty and Tandy with their powers and what they are supposed to do. The dolls she had set up were in pairs of twos. So, I’m hoping for a Tandy one to appear on her shelf.
Jess: I definitely think Evita’s aunt knows more than she lets on. I don’t know if it is because she can somehow sense that Tyrone has powers, but I think she has some hidden intentions when it comes to him.
Noelle: Yes. I really do. Something is definitely up with her and I don’t know if it’s bad or good. Also, I wonder if she knows about Tandy too. Why just Tyrone? Clearly, she was making that before she met him, which is odd, so what exactly does she know or want with him?

6. Detective Connors is continuing to do shady things. How do you think things will end for him?
Kimberly: I think it’s going to be hard to catch Detective Connor and that he is connected to Roxxon Corp. I think he will meet his end from Tyrone or the shady people he works for.
Haley: Is it rude to start off and say I hope they throw his ass in jail? A little? Welp, I don’t feel bad. Honestly, I hope O’Reilly gets him the punishment he deserves.
Christina: I really hope it ends with him gone and never coming back. Ha. Either in jail or Cloak putting him where he needs to go. As long as Tyrone gets his closer, I’m all there for it.
Jess: I think (and hope) that eventually karma will catch up with him. I think Tyrone will continue to try to expose what he did to Billy, and won’t stop until he gets justice. I think now O’Reilly is suspicious of Connors as well, so hopefully, he gets exposed soon.
Noelle: I hope he is put in prison or killed, to be honest. Seeing him makes me sick and then these corrupt cops making this assault go away for what a rapist who has connections. I am disgusted and I truly hope they get what they deserve. In the end, Connors will get what is coming to him, he will pay for what he has done, and he will suffer for his sins.

7. Tandy divulged information to O’Reilly. What do you think she will do with this information? Was it a wise move on Tandy’s part?
Kimberly: I think this is the start of a great team up. Detective O’Reilly I feel will become a person that helps both Tandy and Tyrone. So, in my opinion, I think it was a smart decision for Tandy to trust O’Reilly (Fingers Crossed).
Haley: I think O’Reilly will try and make sure he is found guilty. Tandy putting her trust in her seemed like a wise move to me. Because she honestly seems as if she just wants to help.
Christina: I’m just happy Tandy actually stopped running and tried something different. I hope since the case was dropped, O’Reilly looks into Connors. She did not like how this assault case was just shut down by him.
Jess: I was really surprised by this move from Tandy, and I’m proud of her for telling O’Reilly rather than running away from the problem again. You can definitely tell that O’Reilly is intelligent and competent from how she quickly deduced that Tandy had been assaulted. I do think O’Reilly will try to continue to work the case and hopefully get some justice for Tandy. Hopefully, she also sees how disingenuous Detective Connors is, and will maybe work to take him down as well.
Noelle: I’m not sure about O’Reilly. I know she is a good person and isn’t corrupt (THANK GOD) however I don’t know what to make of her and if Tandy telling her all this was a good thing?. I don’t see the harm in telling her but I also seeing O’Reilly most likely keeping an eye on Tandy which I don’t know if that is a good thing. I do also see her fighting against these corrupt cops mostly Detective Connors, she isn’t going to let this go and now she is getting a sense of how corrupt he is. I really hope she goes head to head with him before the season ends.

Powerful storytelling helped show the fears of Tyrone and Tandy, while also foreshadowing some coming events
Cloak & Dagger continues to bring it with its consistent and effective storytelling. The writers meshed the two stories of Tandy and Tyrone so beautifully together. They managed to give the two the same amount of focus and handled each story with care. The details definitely showed and made us love this show even more! The cinematography got even better in “Stained Glass”. The scenes truly came alive when the two main characters went through their series of scenarios. Even without much action, the show’s skill continue to shine through. So, when the action-heavy scenes do finally make it to the screen, we can only imagine how great they will be.
Tyrone and Tandy shared more scenes together this week but not nearly enough. We love the chemistry between these two, even when they’re simply standing side by side. We’re excited about future scenes of the two trying to navigate themselves by figuring out their powers.

The storylines are starting to get more interesting and we learned about the fears both Tandy and Tyrone have. They constantly see each other in their child forms of when they first connected with each other. The symbolism showcased in those scenes really drove the stories forward. We’re intrigued by Evita’s aunt having a doll in her possession that favors Tyrone. This could be something bad for the young man. It was also great to still see Tandy decided to move in a different direction and not just run away. What will come of her talking to the detective, should add something great to the show.
We’re still all in with Cloak & Dagger and have no plans of letting it go! Next week, Tandy and Tyrone finally come face-to-face and confront what’s really been going on with them. We can’t wait to see what these two do next!
