The sarcasm is strong with this one. Woody Harrelson, the seasoned and sardonic actor is heading to a galaxy far, far, away.
Star Wars fans can rejoice at finally receiving news of the latest actor to join the Star Wars universe – the prolific, chameleon-like Woody Harrelson, according to the official website. The currently unnamed film, due to be released sometime in 2018, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, and Simon Emanuel, has already added several other talented cast members in the past several months. Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures, Hail Caesar!, Rules Don’t Apply) will take on the beloved Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community, The Martian) as Han’s sometimes friend Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke (Me Before You, Game of Thrones) in a currently unknown role that no doubt we all hope will be fit for a Khaleesi.
Harrelson has already demonstrated his ability to adapt to a variety of roles and breathe life into memorable characters, with his massive repertoire including, but not exclusive to, The Hunger Games, Zombieland, True Detective, Now You See Me, Natural Born Killers, No Country for Old Men, and Cheers.
As the film’s directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have stated on the official Star Wars website,
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
(Hmm…I think I hear a challenge being issued there…*throws down monogrammed ping pong paddles*)
Oh…where was I? Right! We know Harrelson throws himself fully into every character he plays, so there is no doubt in my mind we’ll be in for a treat. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the Texas native (yes, being Texan is always worth mentioning), oozes sarcastic charm so naturally, I would love to see him play Han’s father or a mentor of sorts. That much sass alone would be worth going to see the movie!
Until the film is released in 2018, I will continue to work on my Jedi training. Honey, WHERE…IS…MY…LIGHTSABER?!
