The Awesome Extras from ‘The Originals’ Season 1 DVD

The first season of the CW supernatural drama, The Originals, was absolutely amazing. The series follows the world’s oldest vampires, the ‘Originals’ as they return to New Orleans, a place they helped build and once called home. Season one we watch Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) struggle to regain power from Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), a former protege’ of Klaus‘.They also must take on the diabolical French Quarter witches to protect Klaus’ baby mama, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and their unborn child. The Originals debut season was loaded with drama, suspense, mystery, love and some shocking twists no one ever saw coming! Below are some of the DVD extras from the hit show’s first season.

In the first video clip below, series creator and executive producer, Julie Plec. explains the origin of the series. She explains how the show’s main characters first appeared in the third season of The Vampire Diaries. Claire shares how the idea for the spin-off came about and how her and Joseph campaigned for an ‘Originals’ centered series. We also hear from series stars, Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gilles, Charles Michael Davis, Phoebe Tonkin, Danielle Campbell (Davina) and Leah Pipes (Cami). We even get to see some of their casting auditions. Director, Chris Grismer, executive producer, Michael Narducci talk about the show’s pilot and setting up the series. 

Next, the executive producers and writers of The Originals talk about honor the culture and history of New Orleans. They explain the episode, ‘The Casket Girls’ is modern day reflection of the historical New Orleans legend.  It’s also explained the significance of the year 1919 is in the show’s flashbacks and the nods to true events documented in history such as prohibition, the criminal underworld, the influenza epidemic and more.

And in the last clip below, features the ‘Original’ siblings,Elijah and Rebekah telling the story of how their family became vampires and why they’re hunted by their beloved parents.
