We’ve given you some helpful tips on how to survive Wizard World Philly Con but we know you all have questions, especially newcomers, but fear not, because we are here to help! From admissions to autographs to travel, we’re ready to answer your burning questions straight from the Wizard World site!
#1. What happens if a celebrity cancels, and you bought a VIP Admission, Photo Op, or Autograph?
Celebrity cancellations are a bummer, especially if you changed your plans just to meet a specific celebrity. In the event that your favorite celeb cancels, Wizard World will automatically refund you, however, if you still want to attend the show, you have to re-purchase new Admissions or VIP Admissions. NOTE: Admissions are not mailed out. In order to claim them, you have to bring your PDF confirmation along with ID to the con.
#2. Do you still get access to the con the whole weekend even if you purchase a celebrity VIP for a specific day?
Yes, you do! You will have access to the con the whole 4-day weekend. Only your autograph and photo-op with that particular celebrity will take place on the day in question though. If you have purchased only an autograph or a photo with a specific guest, you still have to purchase admission to the con in order to claim it.
#3. Will you have trouble getting into the con if the name on your admission isn’t yours?
Nope! The name on your admission will have no effect on your admittance. Your admission will be validated based on the confirmation code on each admission. If you have any trouble, head on down to the registration area and someone there will help you out.
#4. Can you get a refund if you can’t make it to the con?
Sadly, no. We learned this the hard way a few months back. All admissions to the con are non-refundable. That goes for guest cancellations too, as talent is subject to change. Photo Ops, Autographs, and specific VIP Admissions will automatically be refunded if a guest cancels, however.
#5. Do you have to bring things for the actors to sign or do they have their own items?
Guests always have photos at their booth but you’re more than welcome to bring your own items to get signed if you prefer. Talent may refuse to sign anything they deem to be inappropriate, so please keep it clean. Also, ask before taking a picture of a guest. It may seem harmless from a distance, but they or their management may not approve. If you are caught, you will be let off with a warning, but if it happens again, you will be asked to leave the con.
#6. How do you buy things at the con? Do dealers only take cash or can you pay with credit/debit?
It all depends on the vendor. All of them take cash and some are equipped to take credit or debit. All autograph tickets purchased on site or table selfies (photos taken with talent at their booths) are cash only. Before agreeing to any purchases, be sure to ask what form of payment the vendors accept.
#7. Are there hotels in the area that you can stay at while in town?
Wizard World’s travel page has listed both the Hampton Inn and the Residence Inn as the closest to the convention center as well as driving instructions and what trains/buses will take you to the con. The cut off date for reservations for the Hampton Inn is May 10th and the Residence Inn is May 21st, but if all the rooms are booked before then, you can always check Expedia or another travel site for the best hotel deals!
#8. Is there parking in the area and how much is it?
Check with the convention center or an online mapping website to find out where parking spots are located – There’s a ton of them. To get the prices, you’ll have to call the individual lots to find out but for most of the shows, Wizard World’s travel page has listed as much parking info as they could for that individual show you’ll be attending.
#9. Are there costume rules or guidelines?
While costumes are hugely encouraged at the con, your costume and accessories MUST comply with the local laws where the con is being held. Wizard World insists that your costume not have any parts that may cause harm to you or other con-goers. No real weaponry (blades, firearms) may be carried and no part of your costume can fire, spray, shoot, or ignite. Your costume must also be appropriate for all ages.
#10. Can you re-enter the show if you leave?
Yes you can! Depending on what kind of admission you purchased, your ticket is good for the whole day or the whole weekend. If the con floor reaches maximum capacity, however, the Fire Marshal may institute a “one in, one out” policy. The best way to beat that is with a VIP admission. That way you don’t have to wait on that line.
We hope we were able to answer all your questions! Alas, there is nothing on Wizard World’s FAQ page about Wi-Fi but we will be sure to keep you posted if that or anything else changes. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for up-to-the minute info during Wizard World Philly Con!
