The hotly-contested race for the role of Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, in the next Tomb Raider film (a role made famous by the ingenious Angelia Jolie) has found its winner: Alicia Vikander.
You may recognise her face-in fact, you probably will. With impressive credentials stacked to her name such as films Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and most recently, The Danish Girl-for which she won the Best Supporting Actress award for in the much-coveted Oscars, all eyes will be set on Ms. Vikander on delivering a startling performance…and I think she will.
Variety reported that Vikander had always been the casting director’s top choice-and hopefully that will pay off. It is a huge pressure; the Tomb Raider series is massive, and has an absolutely huge online fanbase-hugely passionate, too. There had already been dream castings and photosets and gifsets of who people wanted in the role-and after Daisy Ridley was thrown into the rumour pool with her wildly popular and winning performance as the quarterstaff-wielding hero Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, hopes for her casting shot up and still remains in the minds of many.
Alas, we will have to wait and see if the already impressive Ms. Vikander delivers the Lara Croft we all dream of, in the highly anticipated next chapter of this legendary franchise. With her incredible résumé already, I think she’s on a steady course to much-loved stardom. For now, it’s not like Vikander is kicking back to relax. She is already slated to be in the next Jason Bourne film opposite Matt Damon. So watch out for this name: Alicia Vikander. She may be kicking butt on your screens very, very soon!
