Charles spoke to TV Guide about Marcel finding his voice this season.
“In Season 1, Marcel deferred to Klaus a lot and in Season 2, it’s a bit about Marcel finding his own voice and mediating in his own way,” Davis tells TVGuide.com. “[The writers and I] had talked about getting Marcel back to the Marcel from the pilot…”
“Daniel and I were always trying to figure out why they don’t like each other and we wanted them to be friends and the [writers] kept saying no,”Davis says. As for the episode’s final scene, which was somewhat of a peace offering, Davis adds, “We’ll see some respect return. I don’t think they’ll necessarily be friends or be friendly, but they’ll work together and respect each other. In Season 1 Elijah came in and threw Marcel around literally and now they can talk about things.”
Davis shares that Marcel will get another flashback, but for the first time, the scene is solely about his character. “It’s about time,” the actor says excitedly. “It’s about how Marcel got his leadership skills [but] I can say it’s not related to New Orleans. [In it] he departs his home to find out who he is and what he’s made of and goes on an adventure where he meets new enemies, externally and internally…

In an interview with TV Line, Charles dishes on Marcel’s new army, Cami and more.
“Cami represents the human faction and Marcel is in charge of the vampires. It’s probably not the best time to start a relationship. We both just need a little time.”
If not Cami, who will Marcel be spending the bulk of his time with this season?
He floats around a little bit. He’ll be spending the bulk of his time with Elijah and Hayley. He also has Gia and Josh. It’s kind of nice, he has some time to rebuild. So much new information is introduced through flashbacks. Will we learn anything else from young(er) Marcel this season?
…We’ll get to see Marcel become a leader and step up, which is all part of his bigger journey. He’s in another transition period right now, so we’re going to look back and see what he did earlier in his life when he was looking for something bigger than himself.is Marcel still going to find himself tangled in their family drama?
That’s always his dilemma — being a part of the family, but not being a part of it…They’re all very damaged, and as we saw from last week’s flashback, they almost submit Marcel to some trauma. So is he going to get used to it and want to stick around, or is he going to set himself apart and have is own identity outside of it?
