The team gets deployed earlier than expected to investigate the explosion that killed the original on site team!
SEAL Team 1×13 “Getaway Day” on CBS gave us the insight we’ve finally been looking for as we were finally able to see what the home lives of the team looked like. But it wasn’t all great as Alana (Michaela McManus) finally comes to a decision on her relationship with Jason(David Boreanaz). Clay (Max Thieriot) also had a bit of a struggle as he took back his proposal to Stella (Alona Tal). Stella seemed to take the situation all in stride, but we aren’t completely convinced that she is okay with the whole thing. Ray (Neil Brown Jr.) is still attempting to lie about his shoulder injury to Naima (Parisa Fakhri). Their time for dealing with these issues was cut shorter than anticipated when the on site team was killed in an explosion.

The investigation is far from easy as Mandy (Jessica Pare) heads up the interrogations with Clay’s language skills to assist. Sonny (AJ Buckley) seems to have an easier time adjusting his mindset to being all about the mission than the others. Davis (Toni Trucks) is a little preoccupied with Danny (Steve Howey) and the possibility of his drinking problem back home. With Jason’s team all having difficulty focusing entirely on the mission, they aren’t yet able to determine who was responsible for the bomb.
Let’s meet our roundtable and get their take!

1. Clay takes back his proposal to Stella and she says she’s fine with it, but do you think she was actually a little disappointed?
Bryna (@Becoming_Bryna): I think Clay was more disappointed in her response. She seemed relieved. Not only that, when Big Dude was talking to her, she was acting more like an interviewer than someone compassionate about a family losing a husband, father, or brother-in-arms.
Manuela (@yellowhat3): I’m still not completely sure I believe that her feelings for Clay are pure, so I’m glad he came to his senses. Honestly, I don’t care if she’s disappointed because it was the right decision.
Rachel (@tickledbloo): It looked to me like she was a little relieved. I am bummed for him, because I think he really feels like he is ready.
Micha (@ciaomichaella): I actually think she was relieved to go back to the way things were before Clay proposed. It seemed like she was shocked at the proposal and knew deep inside that they were not ready for that at this point.
Andrea (@Andrea_Colanni): I don’t think either one of them were truly prepared for that proposal. There’s no way that there won’t be any awkwardness between Clay and Stella after this whole situation. But Stella did seem a tad disappointed, though that could be because she knows things are going to be different.

2. Alana has finally decided to separate from Jason for good. Do you think this is really the end of their marriage?
Bryna: That was crushing to me. I felt like Jason and was like, “What? After all we’ve gone through?” But I can see the toll it is taking on her and the children. I hope this is not the end. But the timing of dropping that bomb on him was extremely painful.
Manuela: This scene crushed me and David Boreanaz was amazing at conveying the sadness and disbelief in what he was hearing. If I had my way, I would say no, but I know that deployment will leave bruises to heal as well.
Rachel: It is possible. The part of me that knows a little bit about drama ratings says it probably isn’t. They share a good on-screen dynamic, but in my view, it is a dynamic that doesn’t have to be shared as a married couple.
Micha: I think this is something that will continue as the series goes on. They’ve been together for a long time and they have children. It’s not as simple as just saying it’s over and they’re done for good as Jason’s deployed.
Andrea: I’m really okay with it. I just hope that it really sticks. The two of them need to move on, and I am more than ready to have the relationship between Mandy and Jason explored!

3. Ray is continuing to lie to Naima about his injury, but she knows just about everything. Will this continuing secrecy affect their marriage?
Bryna: It will affect it, causing tension and stress. But I know they will get through it with a deeper understanding and love for each other.
Manuela: I find their relationship very believable and Naima is trying to keep some control in this chaotic life of being married to a SEAL. I think that ultimately, Ray will make it right and their marriage will be ok.
Rachel: Yes! It certainly has an effect on the trust that they share. I know that it would have an effect on my own marriage.
Micha: Everything’s fine as long as Ray stays healthy. I’m really scared that Ray will get injured on the job and/or put the rest of the team in danger because of his shoulder. Ray, just go to the doctor and get back to 100%!
Andrea: Yikes! If something happens because of Ray’s injury, not only is he going to have a lot of guilt on his shoulders, but some fear as well. Naima seemed more than ready to kick his ass over the whole thing.

4. What did you think of the inside look we finally got to see of the SEAL’s lives at home and their relationships?
Bryna: We as American civilians really have no clue what these families are going through. My gosh, my biggest stress growing up was when will I get to go back to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal. These kids have to face kissing their Dad goodbye without knowing if he will return. They still have to “function” in school, etc. Lord help us be way more compassionate and compensate, support and celebrate these military families.
Manuela: It was so stressful and sad, but you really felt that when they call themselves a family-it’s really a family. Everyone comes together and it was also comforting to see.
Rachel: I’m married to a teacher, and there’s a division of time that’s similar. My husband coaches and is on committees, and other things that steal his time from our family. Now, I’m not saying the occupations are similar at all, it would be awful for me to be the wife of a military man. But I have a tiny understanding of having to share your husband with a whole other group of people. It’s interesting seeing how similar the dynamic is. It is sad though, how they have to try so hard to balance domestic things while having to go across the world for work in a combat zone.
Micha: It’s good for the development of each character and the progression of the show. I can’t wait to find out more about each character’s life and back stories outside of work. For example, Brock was hugging someone before they deployed. I want to know who that woman was and what Brock’s life is like beyond being Cerberus’ handler. There’s also so much more to find out about Lisa and Sonny too.
Andrea: I loved it! Except for poor Sonny, who really doesn’t seem to have anyone. Now that Davis is with Danny, maybe it’s time for Sonny to have a friend or love interest outside of being a SEAL.

5. We left off still unsure of who was responsible for the bomb. Who do you think is the culprit? Tariq, his wife, or someone else entirely?
Bryna: I think someone else entirely. Someone set them up and taking out an entire US Military Team is a major statement. There is something major going on.
Manuela: Good question! I really think that Mandy is on to something with her line of questioning and maybe the timeline gap is a major clue to Tariq’s complicity.
Rachel: Could be someone else entirely. This show has done a great job of not only having me on the edge of my seat for 3/4 of nearly every episode, but also keeping me guessing. I like cliff hangers, but at the same rate, grr.
Micha: I’m not sure, but I loved how Mandy broke through the wife by talking about an awful mother-in-law.
Andrea: Wow, that is a hard one! I think I’m as stumped as the rest of them at this point. Though it wouldn’t surprise me with this show if someone came out of left field and claimed responsibility.

6. Do you think the death of the team originally on site affected the mindset of Jason’s team?
Bryna: Oh heck yes, definitely, for sure, bigtime. They were right there looking at what could have been their own caskets. Then thinking about their families, etc. Very powerful scene.
Manuela: I believe that the only one who had a different attitude going on the deployment was Sonny. He seemed aggravated when Jason was asking him to shadow Clay.
Rachel: Yes. I believe that having a revenge mindset is much different that having a “task-at-hand” mindset. Revenge leaves a lot of room for mistakes.
Micha: It definitely affected them. Those are people they work with and their family, that kind of tragedy is devastating. It also cut Jason’s team’s time with their respective families and thrust them into a dangerous, unknown situation. I think the most obvious example of how the Echo Team deaths have affected Jason’s team was seen in Sonny in the watching cartoons scene. He has a lot of anger and is focused on revenge.
Andrea: I don’t see how it couldn’t. Not only did they lose fellow SEALs and friends, but it put the truth of their own mortality right in front of their face. Jason and the team always handle things with mostly unemotional thinking, but I just don’t think that’s possible this time around.

7. There are some hints to Danny possibly having a drinking problem. What do you think Davis will do when she returns home if this is true?
Bryna: I think she will confront him. She is not the type to back down until she gets to the bottom of a problem.
Manuela: I really believe that Davis left on deployment with the mindset of being detached from Danny. Whatever happens when she gets back, I know she’ll be in control. I still think that ultimately, her and Sonny have an affinity and I wish that could be explored.
Rachel: I agree that he may have a drinking problem. It could lead to an ultimatum from Davis when she returns. It could also lead to her falling down the same spiral. I hope not, but that can happen, especially if she is trying to escape the stress of her job as well.
Micha: I think she will be very disappointed and probably break up with him. Lisa doesn’t mess around and she doesn’t have time to waste. If anything, it seemed like a big step for her to even let Danny into her life and her heart. He better not blow it. If he really cares about Lisa, he’ll get help and shape up. Davis deserves the best.
Andrea: That seems like it’s going to be a pretty volatile situation. I really don’t want to see Davis give her heart to Danny just to have him break it. If he truly does have a drinking problem I think Lisa will give him one chance to stop and offer to help him. But if he can’t do that, she’ll be gone.

Final Verdict: While things on the home front are rocky, things in the field are even worse!
We really weren’t surprised with Alana’s decision to officially separate from Jason. She’s had a problem with his career since her first moment on-screen. So that move was a little predictable. But we are finding ourselves drawn to Danny and we’re worried about the possibility of his drinking problem. The writers of this show are making us fall in love with Danny and we’re afraid of what pain they’re going to put us through with him. Lisa deserves love too! Another amazingly written part of this episode was the inside look we got into Sonny. He seems really lonely, and it was definitely hitting us right in the heart!

While finally seeing how the guys operate at home was great, we certainly didn’t get enough time there. With Jason’s team now deployed, we’re unsure of the next time the team is going to be seen at home again. On top of that, we find it pretty strange that Mandy needed Clay’s assistance to communicate with their prime suspects. Isn’t the knowledge of foreign languages a pretty important skill for Navy SEALs to have? Not to mention their superiors should definitely have that type of knowledge. This led us to question what the team did when they needed to communicate before Clay came along.
There’s going to be a bit of a wait for the next episode, which has us feeling a little disappointed. But we’re going to keep our fingers crossed that the culprit of the bomb will finally be discovered and there can be some closure for the families of the team that was killed. There is also some anxiety over the relationships with Jason’s team and those they have waiting for them at home. Or, not really waiting, as the case seems to be with Alana from now on.
