Pretty Little Liars 6×01: “Game On, Charles”: Top 5 WTF Moments

Family ties bind when Alison finds a family member in creeper Charles, but a happy reunion still survives in the end.

As much as the Pretty Little Liars season’s tagline promised us a #SummerofAnswers, the season opener didn’t give us many. However, It was exciting to have our favorite summer show back. Almost the entire hour was spent in Charles’ creepy dollhouse, and gave us more scary and uncomfortable moments than last season ever did. There’s a new girl found in the dollhouse, with no clue as to how she even got there. Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), and Hanna (Ashley Benson) stick together through what obviously looks like hell in each of their rooms. Meanwhile, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) admits that Andrew (Brandon Jones) is a prime suspect in the case against the girls, which strikes up a stakeout montage between Ali and Andrew. Spencer tells the girls that Charles is of the DiLaurentis family bloodline, which makes them form a firery plan to weed out Charles, but it soon backfires. Luckily, Ali, Caleb and Toby are there to save their loved ones, hoping for a different tomorrow.

Last night’s season 6 premiere of Pretty Little Liars “Game On, Charles” had our jaws dropping to the floor more times than we could count! But what we could count was the Top 5 WTF moments of the episode.

5. Introducing Sarah Harvey…

There is a new girl in the dollhouse, wearing the same yellow tank top Ali wore when she went missing. Later on, we find out this new chick is Sarah Harvey, who has been missing since before Ali disappeared. Has she been in the dollhouse this whole time?!

She was found right at the end of the episode when the police, Ali, Toby and Caleb found the rest of the girls escaping the dollhouse. But there really isn’t much else about her. Granted, this is still the first episode, so I get the feeling we’ll definitely be seeing more of her.

4. The Liars’ teary reactions to coming out of their rooms three weeks later…

The girls are found in the beginning in the episode still in their prom dresses after their failed attempt to escape the dollhouse, looking like they are about two seconds to drinking their own pee. And this worries me, because I don’t want to see any of my girls go crazy or die from starvation or dehydration. But fortunately, Charles lets them back in, but knocks them out with smoke and grabs Mona. Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna are next found naked in a morgue! Spencer guesses that Charles made them look that way to send a scary message to their families. Mona walks in dressed as “Ali”. So morbid!

The loudspeaker in the dollhouse announces, “Please return to your rooms and find your surprises.” Mona strikes a rebellious nerve and says, “No!” but she obliges anyway because ‘It’ steals you in the night and puts you in the hole.’” Later on, we find her in that exact same hole.

After the Liars’ were allowed back in their rooms, we hear screaming and shouting. Three weeks later, they come back out in older clothes from season one, especially Aria’s hair cropped short with pink highlights. But the worst part of it was that they looked like they were about to burst into tears. What devilish things took place in their rooms? Did they get tapes of their families or something else?

3. Andrew is a prime suspect.

Back at home, Ali give a press conference, new haircut and all. Come to find out, Andrew Campbell, Aria’s study buddy, is a prime suspect in the case. What did he do to become the prime suspect? We had a feeling his attachment to Aria may have raised some eyebrows, but to become a prime suspect? Interesting.

Detective Tanner reads from Andrew’s notebooks stashed with quotes of his like “Aria’s doe eyes”, Spencer’s smugness, and being disgusted by the lot of them. Maybe that could have something to do with him being a prime suspect, I don’t know.

Meanwhile, Ali and the police set up a stakeout montage for Andrew to take Ali, but even that’s confusing. Why waste so much time thinking Andrew would want Ali, when he clearly has some kind of beef with the other girls? The Rosewood P.D. isn’t too bright, I see.

Caleb and Ezra plant a tracking device on Ali’s shoe to keep watch of her. It gets even scarier when Ali finds a car with a GPS that knows her by name and takes her out in the middle of nowhere.

2. Who is Charles DiLaurentis?

Back in the dollhouse, the girls are advised by the loudspeaker to “Please proceed to Ali’s room and prepare for arrival.” As they assemble, they find some old boxes of newspaper clippings about their families, freaking them out even further. The worst part of it is that as Aria climbs into the back of the closet wall, she discovers the words “He’s going to kill me!” in Mona’s handwriting.

While digging for things to use against Charles, Spencer finds an Etch-A-Sketch and marks out her revelation from last season finale: “Charles is a DiLaurentis”! Freaky!

Ali’s car runs out of gas as the GPS instructs her to open the trunk, where she finds a card that reads “See You Soon” with a new outfit. The scary GPS demands that if she doesn’t put it on, A will kill the girls! So she puts on the outfit, but points her old boots towards the path so Caleb and Toby can find her. Clever girl!

Spencer finds an old home video of Mrs. DiLaurentis playing with two little boys (the video from season 5’s finale) and sets it on fire. The girls catch on and set the dolls and crib on fire as well. But Aria stops, asking, “What if A’s not watching this?” Aha, but he was, watching back and forth between them and Ali in the woods.

1. Back together again!

As the fire the Liars made from the plastic dolls spreads in the dollhouse, they find themselves face to face with the hooded enemy, Charles. Charles pulls the fire alarm and the girls finally escape, running into the arms of Ezra, Caleb and Ali. Yay for happy reunion! Spencer tells Toby, “We know who it is. We have a name.” while Toby goes, “It’s Andrew.” No, Toby, it’s Charles…

Meanwhile, Emily asks Ali who Charles Dilaurentis is, and even she looks confused, clearly having no idea.
