At this point, nothing is official, but news like this is a pretty good sign that there will be a Lord of the Rings television series.
It is uncommon for Bezos — known to be a fan of high fantasy and science fiction — to involve himself personally in dealmaking for Amazon Studios. But talks for “The Lord of the Rings” come at an uncommon moment for the e-commerce giant’s video-entertainment division.
Details on how the story would be handled have yet to be released, so we can only speculate, but a streamed series seems like the perfect medium to adapt a story like Lord of the Rings. A season per novel would allow the creators to really flesh out the nuances of the book series in a way the movies could not.
