Interviews: Jermaine Fowler discussed his reasons for writing an episode of Superior Donuts!

Jermaine Fowler’s episode Superior Donuts Franco (Fowler) gets upset with Fawz (Maz Jobrani) because of how he’s exploiting Black History Month. So, Franco invites a former Negro League baseball player to the shop to share his story. He discusses why he wrote the episode:
“I was passionate about it. I wrote it out of frustration. I grew up watching people and companies commercialize Black History Month. I watched old McDonald’s commercials and they’d blacken up the commercials for 28 days then go back to normal in March. It got annoying to me…”
He wanted to focus on the point that not all black people think the same. They all agree that it is a struggle but how it is dealt with is not the same. Also serving as an executive producer, Fowler said he’d like to try directing an episode of Superior Donuts now that he’s tried out writing.
“There are certain angles we haven’t really explored with this show yet. There are certain intricacies that we haven’t explored with certain characters. I just know if I were to direct an episode it would be different.”
