When Amy and Rosa get a lead on their own white whale, all bets are off!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine 5×21, “White Whale” on FOX had a little nostalgia mixed in with their usual dose of action and comedy. Amy (Melissa Fumero) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) teamed up once again to take on a perp that was able to escape them years ago. But their friendship was put to the test when Amy revealed to Rosa that she was the one to blame for the perp originally getting away all that time ago. But Rosa surprises Amy when she says that she is no longer mad about it, and they are able to ultimately catch their white whale.

Meanwhile, Holt (Andre Braugher) tries to resist the temptation of Gina (Chelsea Peretti) and Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) spreading rumors about his competition to give him the leg up. But they eventually have to change their tune and help Holt team up with his competition to retrieve a letter they accidentally sent. Jake (Andy Samberg) and Terry (Terry Crews) get together with the help of Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) to keep the wedding under budget while still completing everything in Amy’s wedding binder.

1. What did you think of Amy’s week of the wedding binder?
Christina (@OddlyUnromantic): She’s insane! Haha!
Kaysi (@lilithsternin): That binder was insane, but it’s just like Amy to be so exceptionally organized!
Aurora (@AurorasBlog): Good old Amy. You can always count on her to have an incredibly specific giant binder.
Marilyn (@Marilyn72568293): Jake was doing so well with the other binder, this one had me laughing out loud!
Pamela (@CharlesonPamela): Oh my goodness, Amy! She was so excited about it, and Jake was such a good sport about it.

2. Rosa and Amy once again teamed up, something that has been happening a lot. What did you think of their partnership?
Christina: I adore Rosa and Amy’s friendship so much. They’re polar opposites, but they work so well together. You can see that they have an enormous amount of respect for each other.
Kaysi: I really love that we’re seeing those two team up more. It’s been fun seeing their friendship grow over the course of the show.
Aurora: I love it! It’s interesting how Amy learned so much about Rosa in this episode. There’s so much about Rosa to learn about while oh so slowly peeling away layers.
Marilyn: This season has really seemed to explore the relationship between Rosa and Amy. I love when they work together.
Pamela: I think that Rosa really lets her guard down around Amy. More than she does the others, anyway.

3. Do you want to see Holt become commissioner, or do you want him to stay with our squad?
Christina: I think it’d be cool to see him as commissioner, but I’d miss him with the squad.
Kaysi: It would be awesome for Holt to become commissioner, but I’d miss him being with the squad so much.
Aurora: Commissioner! Of course, I adore him with the squad. But he’s worked too hard and is part of at least two marginalized groups. So, to see him make a giant step forward, not only for his career but for the progressiveness and benefit of the city? I desperately want this to happen.
Marilyn: I would hate to see Holt leave the squad, but if it’s what is best for him, I hope he gets it.
Pamela: I would love to see Holt become commissioner but I don’t want to see him leave the squad. Who would lead them?

4. We know Terry is pretty sensitive, but did it still surprise you to see how great he was at helping Jake do wedding planning tasks?
Christina: Terry’s been through planning a wedding before. He knows how stressful it can get. It was nice to see him help Jake, but didn’t surprise me.
Kaysi: Not really. Terry is usually pretty great at helping other people through stressful situations. He knows how to be very level-headed and that was certainly what Jake needed.
Aurora: Nah, not really. He’s just Care Bear Ter.
Marilyn: Terry’s sensitivity never ceases to amaze me. Even though I know he is like that, it always impresses me so much.
Pamela: Not super surprising, but amazing to see!

5. Amy admitted to a mess up from years ago. Were you surprised that Amy hadn’t confessed this until now?
Christina: It did a little bit, only because Amy can’t tell a lie. But as she said, Rosa intimidated her and they weren’t close 7 years ago. Amy seemed like she was trying to do the right thing telling Rosa to make Rosa feel better. But unfortunately, it backfired.
Kaysi: Yes and no. She’s a pretty honest person, but at the same time, she’s not really one to rush to admit that she’s made a mistake. So, I can see why that’s something she would have kept from Rosa. Especially because she used to be so intimidated by her!
Aurora: A little, but when she explained how that happened, it made total sense.
Marilyn: Yes! Amy is a perpetual teller of truth. I can’t believe that she was able to keep the secret for so long.
Pamela: I was surprised, but I can understand why Amy kept it from Rosa, especially if she was intimidated by her.

6. Jake went way over budget, so he and Terry came up with a pretty effective plan. What did you think of their Hitchcock and Scully production line?
Christina: Perfect people to do a menial job! Haha.
Kaysi: Oh my goodness, the production line was a brilliant plan on Terry’s part. Using food as motivation for Hitchcock and Scully is almost foolproof.
Aurora: Hitchcock and Scully save the day more often than I think they’re given credit for. It’s always nice when they can step up and help.
Marilyn: Ingenious idea! I loved that Terry came up with it!
Pamela: Leave it to Terry to come up with the most foolproof plan there ever!

7. Was there ever a moment that you didn’t think Rosa and Amy would be able to catch their white whale?
Christina: They’re the Sleuth Sisters, of course not!
Kaysi: No, I had full faith in the Sleuth Sisters!
Aurora: I truly wasn’t sure! It’s possible he could’ve been another Doug Judy who stretches to more than one episode. So, I didn’t know. But I’m so glad they caught him! I’ll be interested to see if Amy can walk down the aisle without the crutch in just a week!
Marilyn: There was a moment that I thought he would get away. But I’m glad they caught him!
Pamela: They so deserved to catch their white whale, and I’m so glad they did! I only worried for a minute!

Final Verdict: The wedding preparations have been some of our favorite moments and we can’t wait for the big event!
Seeing Amy and Rosa develop from not having much to say to each other, to best friends has been an amazing journey. They have become the best of friends and we are loving the character development. The same goes for Terry and Jake. They’ve always been friends, but now we get to see Jake going to Terry for relationship advice and looking to the man as a mentor. Seeing Terry be so genuine and compassionate with Jake and all of his concerns is one of the biggest reasons for why we watch this show. All of the relationships on this show have become so important to us and we love watching them grow!

Holt battling for commissioner honestly has us a little confused. We could see why he wanted it in the beginning, but why does it seem like the entire squad is separating and going their own ways? The whole point of this show is to see them all working together and it seems like they won’t be for much longer. If Holt gets the commissioner position, what will happen to our squad then? We love seeing them better themselves, but we hate seeing even the risk of them no longer being one squad.
Next week is not only the season finale but the wedding of Jake and Amy! This is something we’ve been waiting for since the very first episode of the first season if we’re being completely honest. Not only that, but the finale marks a lot of changes coming for this show, and we are excited to see what things change and where things will go from here!
