Charles takes control of Jake’s bachelor party while Amy proves that she has a wild side at her bachelorette party!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine 5×19, “Bachelor/ette Party” on FOX gave us everything we could ever want and more! Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) has been planning Jake’s (Andy Samberg) bachelor party for years! So with Terry (Terry Crews) and a fun Captain Holt, (Andre Braugher) the group sets out. But Charles has made some work for the others in the form of a scavenger hunt, and they aren’t here for it. The guys just want to have some fun! So they go off on their own way and end up hurting Charles in the process. That, and they miss out on some actual amazing things Charles had planned.

Meanwhile, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Gina (Chelsea Peretti) do their best to find Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) inner wild side! They get more than they asked for when they find out that a former boyfriend of Amy’s is part of the band at her and Jake’s wedding. But Amy shows just how wild she can be when she is able to destroy the contract with her former flame and make sure he doesn’t make any love confessions at her wedding. Hopefully Jake and Amy will have smooth sailing from here on. But we’re not holding our breaths, especially with Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) in attendance.

1. Jake was pretty excited to see Captain Holt in party mode. What did you think of it?
Christina (@OddlyUnromantic): Party Holt is the best Holt!
Kaysi (@lilithsternin): I loved seeing Holt try to act more laid back! It was hilarious.
Betsy (@RobarBetsy): Amazing! Seeing a wasted Holt will probably always be one of my favorite things!
Marilyn (@Marilyn72568293): It was amazing! I think this is the first time we’ve seen Holt really cut loose. It was worth the wait!
Pamela (@CharlesonPamela): I loved every second of it. Right from the moment he tells the others to call him Raymond, I knew it was going to be great!

2. What did you think of Charles’ bachelor party plans?
Christina: Jake was spot on that the bachelor party was what Charles wanted and not he wanted. It was well-intentioned but not the best. Charles always goes way too overboard with everything. Especially when it comes to Jake.
Kaysi: His plans were a bit much. But it was sweet to see how much work he put into the night.
Betsy: I think it was full of awesome ideas! He really incorporated things Jake would like within it. But he should have included the other guys. Then there wouldn’t have been such a mix up. They may have even been able to cool Charles down a bit.
Marilyn: I definitely think Jake was right when he said it was what Charles wanted and not Jake. I love Charles, but he went overboard. It was supposed to be Jake’s night.
Pamela: Charles always has good intentions, and I know he loves Jake, But that was a bit much.

3. We know how Amy feels about following rules. But did it surprise you to learn just how far she takes them?
Christina: Amy is insane! I have to say I wasn’t surprised.
Kaysi: Yeah, it did a bit. She’s definitely a stickler for the rules, but so many of the things she hadn’t done are things pretty much everyone has done! I mean, who else reads all the terms and conditions?
Betsy: That’s a hard one. On one hand, I wasn’t really that surprised. But on the other, I never knew Amy would go that far with the rules.
Marilyn: It kind of surprised me. I know Amy is a rule follower to an exhausting degree sometimes. But she hadn’t done any of those things before? That’s crazy!
Pamela: A few things surprised me. There comes a certain expectation with Amy and I know that. But to never have turned without signalling? Who hasn’t done that?

4. What did you think about Amy’s ex-boyfriend and the stunt he tried to pull?
Christina: I was kind of surprised that Amy did a one night stand. But then when she said she couldn’t say no to him, I wasn’t. It was funny watching her burn the contract!
Kaysi: I’m not a fan. That was a pretty mean trick he was going to try to pull off! I’m glad they were able to deal with the contract!
Betsy: What a crappy guy! That’s a little ridiculous to do to someone. I hated him.
Marilyn: Instant dislike. I actually really would have liked for someone to punch him in the face. I don’t even care who.
Pamela: It really made me mad. To the point that I didn’t even find it funny. But I did like watching Amy burn that contract and win!

5. Jake said the scavenger hunt was what Charles wanted and not Jake. Do you think he was right? Or was Jake just not seeing what Charles was trying to do?
Christina: To me, Jake was totally right. I think Charles had good intentions but all around it was what he wanted.
Kaysi: I think it was maybe a bit of both. Charles definitely put a lot of thought to make the details things that would mean a lot to Jake. But the overall execution of it was a bit more up Charles’ alley than Jake’s.
Betsy: Definitely more what Charles wanted. Jake did try to meet him halfway by saying he appreciated it. But I think that’s just because they’ve been friends for so long.
Marilyn: Jake actually ended up feeling really bad, and I don’t think he should have. Maybe he should have been a little more up front with Charles, but really, Charles did things for himself.
Pamela: I would have to say Jake was right. The whole thing was more what Charles wanted.

6. Amy was successful in destroying the contract, which is great. But what does that mean for her and Jake’s wedding?
Christina: I just see crazy, crazy things happening at their wedding! Who knows what’s going to go down!
Kaysi: I don’t know, they’re going to have to scrape up a musician pretty quickly!
Betsy: I don’t know how they are going to find a musician this late in the game. But someone from the precinct will probably step in to help. Though, this may not be such a great thing.
Marilyn: Yikes! I mean, I’m glad she got rid of that jerk, but I have no idea what Jake and Amy will do for music now. But I can’t wait to find out!
Pamela: I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they find someone else real quick!

7. Gina said she wouldn’t pick on Amy until after midnight. But even then, she still didn’t. Do you think this is because Gina likes Amy more than she admits? Or was it just because of the wedding?
Christina: I think Gina likes Amy and picks on her because of that. She knows that Amy gets flustered easily and is an easy target for jokes. But deep down I think she cares for Amy.
Kaysi: I definitely think Gina likes Amy more than she lets on. She gives her a hard time all the time but she genuinely does care about her.
Betsy: Gina can play things cool and act like she doesn’t like Amy all she wants. But it’s obvious that she has come to respect and think pretty highly of Amy.
Marilyn: Maybe a little of both? While I do think that Gina likes Amy much more now than she used to, Gina also really enjoys picking on Amy. I think with the wedding coming up, she’s trying to let Amy really enjoy things!
Pamela: Partly because the wedding is coming up but also because Gina has grown to love Amy.

Final Verdict: The wedding of Jake and Amy is definitely going to be eventful!
We loved seeing a more vulnerable side of Amy. It’s what we have been waiting for! The writers certainly know what they’re doing with her character. We expected Jake to be the one with an ex from the past to make their appearance at the wedding. So, it really blindsided us seeing it coming from Amy. But it was also really great. After five years of seeing an uptight Amy that always follows every single rule, we needed to see her cut loose and have a good time. We needed to see that her past isn’t perfect but it doesn’t make her any less of an amazing character. One of our favorite characters in this series!

We love Charles, we swear. But the entire bachelor party was actually quite annoying. It’s supposed to be about Jake and all about Jake. His opportunity to kick back with his favorite guys and celebrate the fact that he’s getting married. But instead, it turned into an entire catastrophe. Yes, Charles had some really cool surprises for Jake along the way. But Charles didn’t include Holt or Terry in on any of the plans and made Jake’s bachelor party a scavenger hunt. It really should have been up to Jake what happened during his bachelor party. Hopefully Charles will be able to calm himself down a bit for the actual wedding.
Next week things are going to be a little more on the serious side. When Rosa gets involved in a dangerous situation, the rest of the squad is left worrying about her safety. There is an active shooter alert and Rosa is the one to respond to the call. We’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed that Rosa makes it out alright. But on the positive side of things, there is just a few weeks left until the wedding of Jake and Amy! What could be better than that!
