WGN’s Underground Makes a Splash at NYCC teasing highly anticipated season 2!
To say that Underground was a hit for WGN would be an understatement. It was clear to see the differences in the panels from last year to this year. The room was packed with fans eager to share the love for the hard-hitting historical drama. The panel was electric, and a trailer cut from the first two episodes showed you that this season, Underground wasn’t going to pull any punches. Given current events, the show feels more timely than ever. The panel also featured Aisha Hinds as Harriet Tubman as you’ve never seen her before. As co-creator Joe Pokaski said of Hinds as Tubman, “Our heroes go from citizen to soldier, which is why we’re bringing on Superman.”
In case you’ve not seen Underground, here’s what you’ve been missing:
WGN America’s Underground tells the story of the revolutionaries of the Underground Railroad who use their ingenuity, power and perseverance to attempt the greatest escape in history despite the dire consequences that awaited them on the other side.
We got a chance to chat with the cast about what’s to come in Season 2. From Aldis Hodge‘s Noah going “feral” to Cato’s (Alano Miller) superpowers, we got some great teases on what’s to come for the Macon 7. And the cast wasn’t shy about some of our cheekier questions, either. We’d definitely want to spend some time sharing in their after dark guilty pleasures!
The panel was a love-fest on all sides. Props to WGN for taking some pretty charged subject matter and turning it into a compelling historical drama with more twists than a pretzel factory. Last season, Ernestine (Amirah Vann) was left in a precarious position. This season, look for Ernestine’s journey to take her to new places. Who is Ernestine, when her children have been taken from her? Aisha Hinds talked about the fact that it was a dream come true playing Harriet Tubman. The entire cast talked about the privilege of being on Underground. Given the explosive first season, we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Tune in March 2017 for season 2!
