A Friendly Reminder to Refresh Your Memory for Season Six
As Vampire Diaries fans finally reach the acceptance stage of grief following that heart-wrenching yet beautiful season five finale, the series gears up for its sixth and potential final (yes, sad face) season. In last season’s finale, the Mystic Falls gang all teamed up to fight for their town and save their friends on the ‘other side’ from being lost into oblivion. Caroline and Elena force Liv to use her witchy juju for good, but needs a large death of Travelers. So Damon puts on his hero hair and decides to blow up the Grill, killing a lot of Travelers and riding them from his town. Elena stands by her man and hops in the car with Damon headed for the Grill. Shocker! Not everyone survives the finale. Some found peace. Others were lost into oblivion. A surprise or two returned. And well, for a couple, it’s left unclear. Take a peek below to see where your favorite supernaturals stand and who’s joining the TVD Family when the series returns this Fall. Here’s your The Vampire Diaries Recap for season 5!
Original Eight
They’ve been part of the cast since it’s debut pilot and though we’ve experienced horrible lost. None gives us more fear than knowing that the end could possibly be near as Damon Salvatore and Bonnie Benett are trapped past the unknown of the other side. It’s our hope season 6 will reveal exactly where Damon and Bonnie are and how we can get two of our original eight back in Mystic Falls where they belong. Check out below to find out just what the original eight has been up too since season five.
Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev): Our ‘Warrior Princess’ is still holding strong unlike her diabolical doppelgänger, who met her fate mid-season. Despite dying in the season five final, Elena made her way back from the ‘other side’ before it was too late. She remained a vampire. We last saw our beloved Elena, devastated by yet another loss.
Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley): The sensitive Salvatore had his heart ripped out literally at the end of last season. However, his friends and his brother banded together to bring him back to life. Stefan remained a vampire although there’s no telling if his alter ego, the ‘Rippah’ will reappear after the fate of his brother.
Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder): After putting on his hero hair, the sexy Salvatore was left in the mist, literally, as the ‘other side’ crumbled. We last saw Damon hand and hand with the one person he never thought possible awaiting their fate.
Bonnie Benett (Kat Graham): Bon-Bon’s fate, much like Damon is a mystery. Brought back to life-ish last season, Bonnie was the anchor to the ‘other side.’ But with the ‘other side’ crumbling, so does the existence of the ‘other side.’ Right? Grams promised Bonnie not to worry…so Bonnie’s status is still unclear.
Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R McQueen): The not so ‘little Gilbert’ is still hanging in there after he was brought back to life at the end of season. He still has his supernatural vampire-hunter traits and he’s in control of his urges. Jeremy was last seen running through the woods frantically to find Bonnie.
Caroline Forbes (Camdice Accola): Our ‘Vampire Barbie’ is still among the supernatural. Always the team player, Care helped her friends bring back her friend and newly discovered crush back to life. She was beside Stefan on a bench as he realized what happened to his brother
Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig): Surprisingly, our beloved busy boy is alive AND human, despite always being used as leverage by one supernatural or another. Being human doesn’t hold Matt back and with the help of the Gilbert ring, he doesn’t think twice about defending his town and friends. In fact, Matt turned on the gas in the Grill to ignite the blast before Damon’s car crashed into it. He did get to safety and manages to escape any danger.
Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino): After returning from his failed revenge attempt in NOLA, Tyler became possessed by a Traveler. Markos flexed his clout to Sheriff Forbes and forced Tyler across the Mystic Falls city line instantly stripping him of any supernatural elements leaving him a human dead from a broken neck. Tyler was able to return from the ‘other side,’ but as Tyler 2.0, human with a werewolf gene.
The Others
If there’s one thing the otherside did was introduced us to a few characters we can’t seem to shake and some we really don’t want too. They’ve moved into Mystic Falls and made it an entertaining place to live. Vampire Diaries cast never seam to rest-in-peace, and when that happens the welcome mat is laid open and old faces reappear. So who are they? Check below for the faces you want to remember and those you gladly forget.
Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre): Liz is still around and maintained her human status. Caroline’s mom even played a role in blowing up the Grill for the good of her town.
Luke (Chris Brochu): Despite having his neck snapped In the finale, Luke was reunited with his sister due to her performing the necessary spell.
Liv (Penelope Mitchell): The shady witch was forced to help bring Stefan and others back from the ‘other side’ by the snapping of her twin brother’s neck. He returned and coincidentally stopped her doing the spell before she killed herself.
Welcome Back!
Alaric (Matt Davis): The closest person Elena and Jeremy have had as a parent since the death of Jenna. Alaric made his way back from the ‘other side’ in the finale. He is still a vampire, but is no longer a murderous, vampire killing machine.
Enzo (Michael Malarkey): Damon’s long lost Augustine buddy, turned off his humanity after learning his pal was responsible for the death of his beloved Maggie. Hell bent on inflicting the same pain on Damon, Enzo goes after Elena. In a fight with Stefan, Enzo causes him to rip out his heart. Enzo returns from the ‘other side’ in the finale as a vampire.
May They Rest in Peace
Lexi Branson: Stefan’s beloved BFF reappeared in the season finale for one last hurray. Always a do-gooder Lexi saw Bonnie becoming weaker and evil Traveler Markos attempting to return for a third time, Lexi knocked him into the great abyss and then surrendered herself to the unknown to leave Bonnie with enough strength for her and Damon to return…..
Grams: Mentor and beloved Grandmother found her peace. Grams says her final goodbyes to Bonnie and tells Bonnie she’s not the only family member that can make a sacrifice – making us all wonder what she meant.
Nadia: After searching for her mother, the long lost daughter of Katherine Pierce, succumbed to a werewolf bite.
Aaron: Collateral damage, Aaron was killed on Damon and Enzo murderous revenge plot against Dr. Wes and the Augustine Society.
Jesse: Victim of Whitmore’s vampire torture society, Jesse was turned into a vampire eating vampire with super strength. He was killed while attacking Damon by Elena to protect him.
Good Riddance
Silas: Stefan’s evil doppelganger fulfilled his wish to die with his one true love, but ended up on the ‘other side’ in supernatural purgatory. He attempted to return in the finale, but Bonnie settled the score and left him disappear into oblivion. Go Bonnie!
Tessa: A woman scorn, Tessa got her revenge on her cheating boyfriend, Silas, made Bonnie the anchor and then stabbed herself.
Katherine: Despite ingesting the cure and aging at a rapid pace, the sly little minx managed to passenger herself into Elena’s body and causing all kinds of drama. The gang eventually figured out and Stefan stabbed her with the Traveler’s knife, killing and then she was sent into the black.
Dr. Wes: Professor Shady Pants 2.0 and most recent Augustine vampire torturer first put Damon and then Elena in cells. He used Elena in his experiments. Big mistake. He injected Damon with ‘Ripper serum’ so he got his revenge by performing a few experiments of his own.
Slone: Lead Traveler bitch, paved the way for Markos return and the Traveler infestation in Mystic Falls. Oddly enough, Markos left her for dead while testing a spell to eliminate magic.
Markos: The leader of the Travelers, achieved his goal of eliminating magic from Mystic Falls. Markos died in the Grill explosion and Lexi prevented him from returning back again from the ‘other side’ by knocking him into oblivion.
New Blood:
If there’s on thing we’ve come to learn about The Vampire Diaries is that many of the new comers planning to reside in Mystic Falls don’t stay long; and the way they came in is most definitely the not they way they’ll be leaving. However, which one of our seven will outlast the other might be the better question. From the descriptions below, it’s going to be yet another entertaining watch to see how these characters leave the show.
Kal (Chris Wood): An unstable newcomer with the unsettling ability to seem normal as the situation demands. He can be both playful and obsessive with a mix of adolescent angst.
Jo (Jodi Lyn O’ Keefe): A doctor at the university hospital Jo tough and accomplished. She demands excellence from her students and has learned the hard way that there’s no room for error in her profession.
Liam (Marcos James): A sexy upperclassmen and med student, he comes from a family of doctors. Despite being arrogant he’s described as good natured. Wonder which lady he’ll be connected to…Caroline or Elena.
Ivy (Emily C Chang): She’s described the typical girl next door with an unexpected wild side.
Tripp (Colin Ferguson): Leader of a community militia, he also serves has a surrogate father to Matt. Julie teases Tripp gives Sherriff Forbes a run for her money…uh oh!
Sarah (Gabrielle Walsh): A shady character with streetsmarts, spunk and a questionable agenda Doesn’t sound like she’s going to be good news.
