ICYMI: Wolfenstein II reimagined as a cartoon, more sexual misconduct allegations, and The Orville renewed
We have a lot of exciting news for you this week in our first issue of Sci-Fi After Dark! But first, let’s get you up to speed and brief you on some cool things you may have missed over the past few weeks.
Great news if you’re a fan of The Orville! Fox recently renewed the show for a second season. The Seth MacFarlane sci-fi comedy series debuted with 14 million viewers across all platforms and has continued to perform quite well for Fox.
Have you ever wondered what the iconic Wolfenstein video game series would look like as a Saturday morning cartoon? Well, you’re in luck because the folks over at mashed on YouTube have done exactly that. To help promote the launch of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks, mashed created a short but highly entertaining cartoon titled Wolfenstein 2: B.J. & The Freedom Fighters modeled after Saturday morning cartoons (albeit a bit bloodier). Any self-respecting Wolfenstein fan should check it out! And if that isn’t enough for you, be sure to check out this incredibly cool Back to the Future-inspired Volkswagen bus! It’s only $98,000. So you better start saving!
Sexual misconduct allegations have continued to plague Hollywood, and the world of science fiction hasn’t been immune. Last month, Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard left his agency after sexual misconduct allegations were made against his former agent Tyler Grasham. Four of the stars of Stranger Things also recently appeared on The Late Late Show and performed multiple Motown songs with host James Corden.

Hot Topic: Star Trek: Discovery possibly spoiled, Westworld lands on Blu-ray, and hints about Mari McCabe’s return on Legends of Tomorrow
The premiere of the second half of season one of Star Trek: Discovery is still months away but parts of the midseason finale may have been inadvertently spoiled. The midseason finale left the U.S.S. Discovery in an unknown location after jumping away from a battle with the Klingons. Did CBS just drop a major hint? It’s too early to say with certainty but for now, it definitely sounds like a possibility. The midseason finale dropped some not so subtle hints about being able to travel to other universes in the multiverse and the episode description CBS released might reinforce that concept.
HBO’s Westworld debuted last year on the premium cable channel and immediately became a hit. Now, about a year later, fans of the mind-bending sci-fi series can finally own it. The complete first season, subtitled The Maze, is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD.
Fans of The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow were recently given a shred of hope of seeing Mari McCabe (Megalyn E.K.) again in the Arrowverse. While there currently isn’t a clear plan to bring her back, the producers have said that they are hopeful it will happen eventually. We may also run into her boyfriend.
Guess Who: Deadly Class cast list revealed, Krypton gets its Brainiac, and did Star Wars Rebels reveal a character’s fate?
Syfy recently unveiled the full cast list for its upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Deadly Class. The graphic novel was written by Rick Remender and Wes Craig and follows a high school student that’s recruited into a high school for assassins. The series takes place in the ‘80s and will be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are known for their work on The Avengers and Captain America movies.
Also on Syfy, Blake Ritson was recently cast as Brainiac in the upcoming Superman prequel series Krypton. Historically, Brainiac is a highly advanced alien android with extremely advanced intelligence and is one of Superman’s primary adversaries.
Star Wars Rebels is halfway through its final season and may have revealed the fate of Kanan, one of the major characters of the series. The show will be returning to Disney XD to finish its final season in 2018.
Social Frenzy: Fans react to Thirteenth Doctor’s costume!
The BBC recently gave us our first look at Jodie Whittaker sporting Thirteenth Doctor’s style in the upcoming eleventh season of Doctor Who. Every new Doctor comes with a brand new look, and as always, fans tend to have very strong reactions. In the case of Whittaker’s costume, comparisons were quickly made to Mork from Mork & Mindy.

Was this an intentional design decision on the part costume designers? It’s difficult to say but the comparisons certainly seem to be rather spot on. Overall, fans appear to be liking the Doctor’s new look.
Talent Interviews: Priah Ferguson and the Duffer brothers from Stranger Things, Star Trek: Discovery showrunner, and more
If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Stranger Things (who isn’t?) and you loved Erica Sinclair as much as we did, you can’t miss this interview with the girl who plays her, Priah Ferguson. Not only did she have a lot of fun bringing Erica to life but she’s very happy with the positive response her character has received.
The seventh episode of Stranger Things 2, which has been quite divisive among fans, was almost completely dropped from the series. The episode focuses on Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) meeting her foster sister outside of Hawkins. The show’s creators, Ross and Matt Duffer, knew the episode might be controversial for fans but they ultimately decided it was necessary for Eleven’s journey.
With all of the sexual misconduct allegations sweeping through Hollywood, no show or genre is immune. Star Trek: Discovery’s Anthony Rapp stated last month that Kevin Spacey made a “sexual advance” on him when he was only 14 years old. Aaron Harberts, one of the showrunners of Star Trek: Discovery, recently spoke to Digital Spy and said he’s very proud of and honored to know Rapp:
“We like to believe that our show can make change. Anthony Rapp’s courage made change, without a doubt. […] I am so proud of him, that’s change in our world, in this moment. And very few people can say that. I’m honoured to know him.”
‒ Aaron Harberts (showrunner)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is coming to theaters this December but we don’t have to wait that long to get answers to all of our Star Wars-related questions. Star Wars: Forces of Destiny on Disney XD has been answering numerous questions about the Star Wars universe. While the questions probably won’t completely change your view of the stories you know and love, many of the answers are quite fun and fill in smaller gaps in knowledge.

Coming Soon: The X-Files gets a premiere date, a Westworld premiere date, the first details about Stranger Things 3, and lots more!
After two years of waiting, season 11 of The X-Files is almost upon us, and it’s arriving much sooner than originally anticipated. The first episode of season 11 will be premiering on Fox on January 3rd in the U.S. U.K. fans of the popular series also got some news. While the exact premiere date isn’t known beyond “next year,” it’s been reported that Channel 5 will once again be the broadcaster for the series.
Netflix’s Stranger Things is a massive hit for the streaming company, and while a third season of the show hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s assumed it will be getting one. David Harbour (Jim Hopper) recently talked about what he wants to see his character do in season 3. What’s at the top of his list? More punching! A few details about Stranger Things 3 was also recently teased by the Duffer brothers, the series creators. They also revealed that they have an ending in mind for the series and that it will take at least another two seasons to get there.
With Disney set to launch its own streaming service to compete with Netflix and other streaming services, a live-action Star Wars series is finally happening! Nothing is known beyond the fact that the series is being made and that it will be exclusive to Disney’s streaming service.
Star Trek: Discovery recently went on hiatus after its explosive midseason finale and left viewers with a lot of questions about where the story is heading next. Fans of the new Star Trek series won’t have to wait too long, though. Chapter 2 of the show’s first season is set to premiere on January 7, 2018, on CBS All Access. CBS is also developing other original series for its streaming service. Jordan Peele (Get Out, Key and Peele) is working on a new reboot of The Twilight Zone. It’s currently unknown if the series is simply in development stages or if it will go straight to series.
After much speculation, season 2 of HBO’s Westworld now has a premiere date: spring 2018. Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy) was recently asked on Twitter when the show would be returning, and surprisingly, she answered. Unfortunately, there isn’t currently an exact premiere date but hopefully, HBO will officially announce a date in the not too distant future.
