Marvel’s Luke Cage adds Alfre Woodard as big baddie for season one!
As we are getting closer to Marvel and Netflix releasing its second series, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, news has now come out about their third upcoming series: Marvel’s Luke Cage. Mike Colter will play Luke Cage and will be part of Jessica Jones before heading over into his own show. Deadline reports actress Alfre Woodard has joined the series as a character named Minetta, who will be a potential big bad for the famous Power Man in season one. Woodard’s character is described by Deadline as someone who is a powerful woman in the local politics and will have an huge impact in Cage’s life.
They also point out that Woodard is playing a version of Black Mariah, a big criminal and drug dealer who is a Marvel Comics villain to Luke Cage as well as Iron Fist, who will be the fourth series in the Marvel/Netflix franchise. Marvel and Netflix hasn’t commented so far on Deadline’s report, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they announce soon that she has joined the show.
As Marvel’s Jessica Jones is getting closer to releasing its first season, Marvel’s Luke Cage should be getting ready to start shooting their 13 episodes so we will most likely be getting more casting announcements very soon. It was announced a few months ago that Ray Donovan producer Cheo Hodari Coker will be the show-runner and executive producer on Marvel’s Luke Cage. Cage will also be part of Marvel’s The Defenders, the fifth series that will bring together him, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, once Netflix has released Marvel’s Iron Fist.
Marvel’s Luke Cage is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
