Let’s discuss: After a week off, ‘The Bachelorette’ is back with enough drama to fill Josiah’s ego, and this week we learned that many of the guys can’t spell, but it doesn’t take a brainiac to spell Lee – T-R-A-S-H.

The NBA finals were last Monday and this week’s episode of The Bachelorette was super dramatic to make up for it. All of the drama of this episode all revolved around Lee, picking up right where last week’s episode left off. Eric is upset and yelling at Lee for talking badly about him to Rachel. Then Lee goes and interrupts Kenny, gives him a whole SIXTEEN seconds – literally counting, and interrupts them again. That, of course, doesn’t go over well with Kenny or the rest of the house, and we’re glad the guys are realizing the type of person that Lee is. Keep in mind that this all exploded within just the first ten minutes. When Rachel cried about the pressure she faces in her position as the first black bachelorette, we cried too. At the rose ceremony, however, Rachel gave Lee the last rose.

Then it was time for the one-on-one date with Dean. Dean conquered his fear of heights by going in one of Rachel’s favorite things as a kid: blimps. Dean was shining bright in his white pants and even dropped the “L’ word already, and said he can already see himself falling for her. After their Brett Dickerson concert, Dean then told Rachel about his mother’s battle with cancer and it was so heartbreaking. Plus the way he called Lee out in his interview was a great to see from him. Then Rachel had a huge group date featuring a spelling bee and lots of laughs at how bad the guys are at spelling even words like champagne. Josiah won and fell more in love with his trophy than Rachel. The party after the group date was when things got crazy, and we need to see Lee go home ASAP.

1. Lee is stirring up all kinds of drama this episode, and pretty much the whole season. He, in part with Iggy, said Eric was here for the wrong reasons which seemed to have come out of nowhere. Lee interrupted Kenny while he was talking to Rachel, waited a whole sixteen seconds, and interrupted again. What did you think of all of that drama in just the first 7 minutes?

Erica (@Ericaeff): It wasn’t uncommon as far as Bachelor shenanigans go, but obviously Lee is a shit-stirrer. I wish Kenny hadn’t fallen for Lee’s bait because Kenny is still my fave and I want him to thrive 🙁

Jaci (@norasariah): I really want Lee to just GO. HOME. His drama is so much more worse than the Blake and Lucas fiasco from the last episode. The dude is a pure evil snake. It’s like Voldemort in real life.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): I have so many things to say about Lee’s off-air endeavors but I’ll try to keep my mouth shut about that (for now). I thought the first 7 minutes of the episode was an absolute snooze fest. It was clear that producers were just trying to stir the pot and create drama from nothing. I was honestly so lost when Kenny was yelling at Lee – I felt like the whole thing came out of left field. Have none of these contestants ever seen an episode of The Bachelorette??? You are forced to stealing someone else’s time in order to get time with the guy/girl. Sorry Kenny. But also, more sorry that you considered skeezy Lee as your friend in the first place. Yikes.

Kia (@clarity4kia): I’m exhausted by Lee and really annoyed that somehow, for the first black bachelorette, an unrepentant racist managed to magically slip by the production’s stringent screening process. It’s low key disrespectful and I’m over it.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): Lee is a manipulative, fake, mean-spirited piece of garbage. I’m waiting for one of the guys to come to Kenny’s defense and call Lee’s disgusting behind out to Rachel. I feel so bad for Kenny! He’s so sweet, with good intentions.

Sophie (@svershbow): Lee is an ignorant, racist prick who doesn’t deserve the amount of air time ABC is giving him. His need to stir up drama and push people’s buttons is sociopathic and I’m really not here for it.

2. In Rachel’s interview, she started crying after talking about what people will say about her and the pressure she faces being the first black woman as the Bachelorette. Why do you think she then gave Lee the last rose?

Erica (@Ericaeff): I think she was pressured to keep Lee by producers and that’s what she was referring to when she worried what people would think of her. Do I think she WANTED to give Lee the rose? Hell no. The episode left us with the idea that Rachel may be letting Lee slide, but I don’t think she’s doing that at all, especially after the comment she made on Twitter about him. She knows he’s problematic.

Jaci (@norasariah): I felt so bad for Rachel when she cried and opened up about the pressure she felt. I’m 50% sure the Lee rose was a producer stunt, and 50% sure it was just Rachel giving Lee the benefit of the doubt. I’m not entirely sure what to think about it.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): Rachel’s tears in her confessional were warranted. I tweeted last night that they weren’t, but I’ve had a change of heart. I definitely understand why she was crying, and can acknowledge and understand why she feels the pressure of being the first African-American Bachelorette. However, I don’t totally agree that her tears are at all reflective or have anything to do with her giving Lee the final rose of the evening. I think all of this Lee drama was strategic, and the only reason Rachel gave Lee her rose that week was to have him go on a 2-on-1 date with Kenny shortly afterward. All for the ratings and the pleasure of the producers, babes!

Kia (@clarity4kia): Unfortunately, Rachel isn’t privy to Lee’s Twitter timeline at this point, so she’s just a little in the dark about how bad this guy is. And, real talk, I started crying when Rachel was crying. She’s smart — whip-smart — so I didn’t think she was coming on the show ignorant to the impact she was making and the pressure she had on her, but I didn’t expect that conversation to be a part of the in-show narrative. Also, I was again annoyed that Rachel was having this vulnerable moment about being a black woman on the show with a part of the same team that cast a racist dude.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): I think she was emotionally distraught and she couldn’t think clearly. She fails to recognize his manipulation. Because it makes no sense. I’m surprised she let Lee’s rude interruption slide.

Sophie (@svershbow): To be honest, I’m stumped on this one. I have to imagine that the producers asked Rachel to keep Lee on for another week, but I’m surprised she was willing to go along with it. Rachel is a smart woman, and I believe she knows in her gut that Lee is bad news bears.

3. During Rachel and Dean’s one-on-one date, she and the other guys were questioning how young he is and if he is mature enough to commit to marriage after the show. Do you think Dean is, in fact, too young for her?

Erica (@Ericaeff): Not necessarily. The other guys are acting like he’s 18. They’re just looking for excuses and justifications on why Dean isn’t good for her because they’re threatened by him. He’s young and handsome and sweet, and they’re worried. Rightfully so.

Jaci (@norasariah): I don’t think Dean is too young for her at all. Now if he were younger than 25, I’d be concerned. He really seems to have Rachel’s best interests at heart and they bond so well together. The guys are just looking for another reason to push someone off the show like they’ve been doing this whole time.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): I honestly do think that Dean may be too young for Rachel. When he opened up about his family history, I think we did see a more mature and vulnerable side of Dean. There’s something so dang cute about him. I loved their 1-on-1 date so much. However, do I think Dean is ready to be Rachel’s husband and prepared to start popping out babies? No. I DO, however, think Dean’s ready for this summer on Paradise (Holla!!)

Kia (@clarity4kia): I do think Dean is too young, but I also think Dean is precious. I think this experience will help him mature in a different way and his presence will help comfort Rachel. They may end up being friends after this, but I don’t see love.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): I don’t believe he’s too young. Many people get married at 25! He’s very mature, and tonight we learned that he really had to grow up and step up at a young age. Some people are 80 at the age of 25, and some people are 25 at the age of 80. He’s just someone who’s ready and has an older spirit!

Sophie (@svershbow): 25 is really young, especially in guy years. I have serious doubts about Dean’s readiness to settle down with a 32-year-old woman, but after their emotional one-on-one I’ve decided to suspend skepticism and give him a real chance.

According to his bio, Dean is a start-up recruiter which is actually more legitimate of a career than half of the older guys have. Also, his experience with grief at such a young age definitely made him grow up faster than most kids. I’m calling it now: Dean is top 4.

4. During the group date, we found out many of the guys can’t spell simple words like champagne. Is the guys’ lack of spelling a deal breaker for you? And who had the best rap during the rap battle, Kenny or Peter?

Erica (@Ericaeff): Hahaha, no, the lack of spelling chops is not a deal breaker for me, however it was a really fun date. It was a good reminder to them that the woman they’re after values intelligence and IS intelligent herself, so they can’t play around! And obviously, Kenny had the better rap. Peter put in a valiant effort but he lost me with “but I know that she’s a girl from the hood!” … *Crickets*

Jaci (@norasariah): Iggy’s misspelling of champagne was hilarious. I think the spelling bee was a cute idea, but Josiah was definitely too cocky in my opinion. Make it about Rachel, not you, dude. If a guy can’t spell common words, that’s cause for slight concern. But words like bureaucracy aren’t exactly used in everyday language. It’s a bit of a toss up for me. The rap battle was hilarious! I think both guys did a pretty good job. I’m not huge on rap so I don’t really have a strong opinion on it.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): PETER KILLED THE RAP GAME!! Something about him “freestyling” was so sexy. I love. My background is in communications – so seeing the guys completely botch the spelling bee challenge really ruined it for me. I need a guy who’s got some brains, and not being able to spell “champagne” is a massive deal breaker IMO. Then again, this is The Bachelorette, so who knows if these guys really couldn’t spell simple words.

Kia (@clarity4kia): Spelling doesn’t automatically equal smarts, and unfortunately, you can’t see the red squiggly line under the words coming out of your mouth. However, when you start spelling facade with a p and coitus with a q, I can’t. Also, rap battles are sooooo 10th grade at summer camp. I can’t give that to anyone.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): The spelling ain’t a deal breaker! They were very nervous and were put on the spot! I think Kenny’s was pretty fly. But I am a Peter gal myself, and he did great too!

Sophie (@svershbow): The spelling bee might be my favorite group date in franchise history. I want to hate on the guys harder for their horrific spelling abilities, but I’m not sure I’d have done much better under pressure. Except for champagne, which I’ve drank enough of to know how to spell.

Watching Peter rap was painful, and I’d prefer not to discuss it any further at this emotional time.

5. Lee told Rachel that Kenny was “aggressive” and that he was the reason for the fighting during the cocktail party in the beginning of the episode. Rachel then asked Kenny for his side of the story and was torn. Kenny was upset and thought that Rachel believed what Lee told her. Who do you think she believed?

Erica (@Ericaeff): The episode made it seem like Rachel was torn, but I believe that ultimately she was on Kenny’s side. I do think she wished Kenny handled the situation more quietly or not addressed it at all, but I don’t think she’s on board with Lee in any way, shape or form.

Jaci (@norasariah): I’d like to say that Rachel believed Kenny, but I kind of give up on trying to see into homegirl’s brain at this point. I don’t know what she’ll do or who she’ll believe. Hopefully, she’ll let Kenny stay. Lee is such a douchebag.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): I hope to god Rachel believes Kenny’s side of the story, but I’m honestly not too sure. I think that since she heard Kenny yelling, she’s more inclined to believe Lee’s version of the story. I hope that she sees what Kenny and the rest of the guys see in Lee. We saw in next week’s promo that she takes them on a 2-on 1 dates. That should be telling enough.

Kia (@clarity4kia): She may not have believed either one! I think I saw that they were on a two-on-one date, which always means that the lead isn’t really into either person on the date. She may get rid of them both; she doesn’t seem to suffer fools.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): I could feel why Kenny believed she sided with Lee, because Piece-of-Garbage Lee is definitely a good talker.

Sophie (@svershbow): Knowing Lee’s racist twitter history, it’s uh…not great that he’s calling Kenny, a large black man, “aggressive.” Read any book that touches on racist depictions throughout history for more on this. I side with Kenny 100%.

6. It seems as though Iggy was involved in not only last week’s drama but also this week’s when he told Rachel he doesn’t trust Josiah’s intentions. Do you think he may be stirring up unnecessary drama?

Erica (@Ericaeff): Iggy is obviously insecure about his position on the show. He sees that his connection with Rachel is not progressing quickly, and he’s trying to compensate for that. But yes, ultimately it’s unnecessary because Rachel likely sees right through him.

Jaci (@norasariah): Iggy, Lee, Eric, and Josiah all seem to be stirring up trouble. I’m not too worried about what Iggy’s doing. There’s way too much going on at once for me to care about alllllllll of it.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): 100%. He’s one of those rather forgettable contestants, and in order to capitalize on his numbered days left on the show, he’s gotta stir the pot, break some necks, and create some drama. To me, he’s completely irrelevant. Don’t have much else to say.

Kia (@clarity4kia): Iggy always tries to turn private conversations into conferences. He’s a gossip and I can’t help but agree with…was it Josiah or Eric who said he turns it around to talk about other men because he himself is lame? Whoever said that I agree 1000%.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): I think Iggy is definitely stirring up unnecessary drama because he’s insecure about his relationship with Rachel, which honestly does he have? I feel like there’s nothing there. All he talks about his other people!!!!

Sophie (@svershbow): Iggy. Ohhhh Iggy, Iggy, Iggy. Dude knows he has no chance with Rachel, so he’s doing his best to get screen time. OVER IT!

7. The previews for next week’s double episodes were insane. Kenny’s eye was even torn up. What do you think happened?

Erica (@Ericaeff): They’re trying to make it seem like Lee or someone else socked Kenny, but last time we saw blood on a Bachelorette season it ended up being a sport injury cleverly spliced between some dudes screaming at each other. So, as much as we’re being made to believe there’s going to be a fist-fight, let’s not hold our breath.

Jaci (@norasariah): I’m so excited that we get double episodes! Thank you, producers, for making up for last week’s episode not airing. I’m sure Lee ended up punching Kenny in the face pretty badly or something of that nature. I can’t wait to find out.

Lianna (@TheBachBabe): I’m no psychic, and I’m definitely not one of the lucky names on the short list of people that get to see advance episodes of The Bachelorette, but history will prove us right when we see that Kenny’s eye injury next week is from a simple accident. I would be SHOOK if he actually was targeted by someone else in the house and was a victim of physical INTENTIONAL violence. On verra!

Kia (@clarity4kia): Um…Leah from Ben Higgins’ season had a black eye in one of the previews that never showed up on the show. You can’t fool me again! If anything, he probably fell down the stairs.

Kathryn (@florencewelches): Kenny definitely confronted Piece-of-Garbage Lee!!! He took a punch, and I think Lee will not. GOOD GRIEF!! When will Rachel see through this jerk??

Sophie (@svershbow): Copper tries to attack Lee because he’s such a douchebag, and Kenny steps in to save him because he’s an upstanding gentleman who will even help out his enemies.

Final Verdict: The Bachelorette was smooth-sailing after Rachel sent DeMario home the last episode until Lee opened his mouth again.

Overall, week 4 of The Bachelorette was pretty entertaining. The spelling bee group date was a fun way for Rachel to learn more about the guys. Unfortunately, the episode wasn’t all fun and games with the way Lee was acting. He intentionally picked a fight against first Eric and then Kenny. When Rachel asked Lee during the group date about the previous day’s fight between him and Kenny, Lee claimed Kenny was ‘aggressive’ and that he started things with Lee when it was the opposite. Plain and simple: Lee is racist and ignorant and should go home next week. To make matters worse, as Eric put it, ‘Iggy is like a gossip queen’ and is just stirring the pot. If you thought this week was crazy, just wait until next week when Kenny and Lee go on a two-on-one date!

The Bachelorette returns next Monday, June 26 at 8/7C on ABC.
