We're not entirely sure if the mind palace concept for hiding memories is plausible if Harrington had no prior knowledge of the Stitchers program.
In Stitchers 3X04 “Mind Palace,” we’re as proud as Maggie watching our team uncover spy secrets
Having overcome his initial uncertainties, Cameron does his best to lead with this week’s new case. Kirsten has secretly recruited Camille in an attempt to map more of the brain during her time in the stitch. However, when John Doe’s memories don’t present normally, Cameron catches on. He is furious with their deception, leaving Kirsten to make amends for not trusting him. In exchange, he promises to work on his anxiety about her. The two approach Agent Abbot of MI6, as they suspect the victim worked for them. He requests cooperation in the form of getting an agent out of jail. Cameron calls in a favor with Fisher, and they arrive at the police station to greet her. Agent Chloe Marks turns out to be a gorgeous blonde woman who eventually charms both of them.

Meanwhile, Linus and Camille are trying to decipher the images that Kirsten saw initially in her stitch. When they hit a dead end, he suggests taking it to Ivy, which she doesn’t take well. Later, Chloe shows up in Cameron’s apartment with a black eye, and she accuses Abbott of attacking her. She reportedly was asking questions about Agent Harrington, the dead man, who was Abbott’s old partner. When the team goes to question him, he takes a shot at Kirsten before revealing he has also been hit. Kirsten takes Chloe to her house and leaves her with Amanda while she and Camille head back the lab. The team stitches back into Harrington after they crack his symbolic codex, and they discover they’ve been deceived all along.
With the victim an agent for MI6, what else did we expect except for an episode akin to a good spy movie? Let’s decipher the clues and reveal the biggest moments this week, shall we?
To become a strong leader, Cameron must learn to work on his weaknesses
By now, pretty much everyone knows about Cameron’s yips during the stitches. When Linus tries to bring it up in conversation, he refuses to even consider talking about it. Instead, he tasks him with creating an effective oxytocin filter that will allow he and Kirsten to be intimate. When the John Doe shows up at the lab, he begrudgingly hands over the piloting to Camille. He immediately regrets his decision when he notices the two women attempting to remain in unmapped areas of the brain. He loses his temper with Camille, and Kirsten reveals that she had asked her friend to do it. He tries to leave the lab, but Kirsten catches up to him in the elevator and they have it out.
Cameron: “Yeah. After me and Kirsten were shot at it scared the yip right out of me but it also made me realize that I need to be in control of my own mind before I let her traipse around in someone else’s…so, I’m working on that.”
Great leaders must be able to do is know everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, including their own. Cameron doesn’t want to face his own inadequacies and chooses to ignore them. The problem is, they affect his ability to lead and causes the others to question him. Just as it is important not to let past relationships affect the current one, Cameron must do the same when it comes to work. He is terrified that Kirsten will become Marta, and as a result he hovers constantly. Developing the yips just makes things all the worse. We are glad he lets her call the shots when she stitches back into Harrington. However, we hope Cameron doesn’t forget that growing is an ongoing process.
Spies are not the only ones who keep secrets…hidden boxes can too!
The team encountered something that had never come up this week when they stitched into John Doe. Kirsten found herself standing in a room with several pedestals, each with items placed on it. Cameron figures out that they are symbols that reveal the codex to a mind palace. Between that and clues on the man’s body, they realize that he’s likely an MI6 agent. Once they learn his name is Agent John Harrington, the team goes to work breaking the code that protects his real memories. Along the way, Cameron pulls Linus aside and tells him of the locked cabinet in Maggie’s office. He wants him to crack the 6-digit code and see what’s inside. When they have solved Harrington’s case, Cameron tells Kirsten about the cabinet before revealing a box and its purpose.
Cameron: “If we can find out where it gets its information from…”
Kirsten: “Then we can figure out where our cases come from, and we can pick the ones that will help us the most.”
We learned from Blair early on this season that the cases are in fact, specifically chosen with the purpose of perfecting the technology. Now, how reliable he is as a purveyor of truth is still yet to be seen, considering he managed to get his own son into the corpse cassette. With this week’s stitch into the mind of an MI6 spy, it’s hard to believe there wasn’t someone who knew his true identity. While the idea of figuring out the assignment process might seem like a good plan, it might be the opposite. After all, we have to keep in mind who the lab belongs to. Hacking into a NSA system and manipulating it could be like signing the program’s death warrant. Let’s hope they keep that in mind…
Trust is not easy to come by, especially when it comes to new loves
Camsten may be the relationship that’s received the most attention and build-up, but it’s certainly not the only romance this season. With Camille and Linus off again, they each have found a new love interest outside the lab. While the former becomes involved with the program’s new ME, the latter has made the controversial selection of Kirsten’s half-sister. In an attempt to mend fences between them, Linus suggests that they go on a double date. Camille reluctantly agrees, but insists that the dinner happen at her house. When the evening arrives and the foursome gather together, sparks fly…and not the good kind.
Linus: “Okay listen, please don’t hurt Camille.”
Amanda: “Wow, where did that come from?”
Linus: “From someone who really cares about her.”
Amanda: “You mean like me?”
Linus: “No, I mean like me.”Ivy: “What do you mean, what is my game?”
Camille: “You heard me sweetheart, I don’t trust you. And that’s fine, because I don’t really trust a lot of people, but if you hurt Linus in any way…”
Ivy: “What makes you think I would hurt Linus?”
Camille: “Oh, I don’t know…genetics?”
We LOVED this scene. Despite Camille’s insistence that she’s angry at Linus, she still watches out for him. While Linus tells her he’s glad she’s happy, he worries about her hidden vulnerability. Watching Allison Scagliotti, Anna Akana, Ritesh Rajan, and Sarah Davenport together was touching and hilarious. Rajan cuts directly to the point, wearing Linus’s emotions on his sleeve. Akana responds with a fiery threat Amanda wouldn’t hesitate to use. Scagliotti is the expert at smiling while baring her teeth. Davenport’s disgust over being accused of using Linus feels completely genuine. Let’s just say that this episode reminded us it’s okay to root for Livy and Camanda too!
Final Verdict: We’re reading between the lines and finding love in Stitchers 3X04 “Mind Palace.”
There’s a lot of growing going on between all the members of the team this week. Camsten overcame yet another hurdle in their relationship while he learned another lesson about leading. Camille and Linus came to an unspoken truce when their protective nature had them interrogating each others’ new loves. The team is falling into a better rhythm without Maggie there, even when they are double crossed by a pair of MI6 agents. We’re definitely enjoying the different dynamic in the lab, and we’re just as curious as the team to find out how those cases are assigned!

Clearly, the biggest question involves that electronic box. What exactly does it do? Who is controlling it? Why was it locked away in Maggie’s office? What will happen if they do hack into it? If they are discovered, could the NSA pull the plug on everything…including Kirsten’s mother?
The one thing that really nagged at us during this episode is the mind palace itself. Current understanding of mind palaces are specific to the accurate memorization of information. It is not used to keep people from accessing information. If Harrington did somehow do that to hide information, how could he have possibly known stitching exists? Is there something we don’t know?
Outside of this strange anomaly in the episode, “Mind Palace” was equally entertaining and intriguing. We definitely loved following along with the squad as they worked to solve the puzzle. We would have happily watched the double date scene with Rajan, Scagliotti, Akana, and Davenport for the rest of the hour. Kudos to Lynne E. Litt and Miguel Nolla for the great job keeping us guessing!
We’re obviously interested in seeing what will happen once Maggie returns. This is especially true if they do find a way to hack into that box. We’re still waiting for Daniel Stinger to pop up at the least opportune moment. Maybe we’ll even get lucky enough to see the day that Linus creates the oxytocin filter for Cameron. We can only hope that we’ll also get a chance to meet Jacqueline for the first time too.
Considering the twists and turns we’ve already had in the third season, it’s hard for us to guess what is coming up next. What we do know is that we’ll be entertained, challenged, and highly emotional when the next episode airs!

- We really want to see an episode where Alex, Chelsea, Ayo, and Tim have to save the squad. Just sayin’.
