The cast and creators of Falling Water came to NYCC to talk to fans about the new science fiction drama from USA.
USA and the cast of USA’s new series Falling Water dropped some serious clues on what fans can anticipate from the show this Fall. Although the first episode of the series has been available on demand, for those of you who do not know what the series is about, we have a brief synopsis for you from USA. Basically, Falling Water is:
An intersection between reality and unconscious thought. [The series] follows the story of three unrelated people, who slowly realize that they are dreaming separate parts of a single common dream. Each is on a quest for something that can only be found in their subconscious. However, the more they begin to use the dream world as a tool to advance their hidden agendas they realize that their visions are trying to tell them something more, and that their very real lives are at stake.
Sounds interesting right? Well at the panel yesterday afternoon, the cast shared some fun facts about how they were cast, what the show is like (no spoilers, don’t worry!), the science behind Falling Water and more! If you’re interested, check out the top three things we learned from the panel below + a nice sneak peak of the show.
#1: “Your dreams are not your own.” Executive Producers Gale Ann Hurd and Blake Masters revealed insight on the premise behind Falling Water and what fans can expect:
Hurd and Bromell, along with a few members of the cast, told fans that the show idea basically came from a random drunk night out at Blake’s bachelor party. Although Maters thought about creating the series back in 2006, Falling Water didn’t seriously rise until now. And the question, “What if dreams could control the subconscious?” slowly ran through the creators heads. Gale even mentioned to fans that the show seemed like a fantasy at first, but that it is very real and fun.
In terms of what fans can expect? Twists, thrills, and a great drama.
#2: A highly known neuroscientist stated that the dream hacking and sharing the series follows, is possible.
Neuroscientist Dr. Moran Cerf joined the panel on stage and told fans how real the show can be to viewers. He mentioned that the technique of hacking that we know today (used in computers, etc.) can also be used in our minds. Through certain influences such as music, smells, and other stimuli, a scientist can actually alter or control someone’s dreams. Talk about inception, right? Not quite. Although we do not have the ability to control people’s dreams entirely, Falling Water shows fans that the idea of hacking and sharing dreams may be possible one day.
#3: The series has influenced the cast in ways they’ve never imagined.
Starting off, the cast of Falling Water are top notch. From the sneak peaks we and other fans have seen, we can tell that the cast really blend well together. One standout moment from the panel was when Blake Masters told attendees that Will Yun Lee smiled and cried in his audition for his role Taka. *Cue the aww’s!* Lee also mentioned that the series has really influenced him heavily as an actor, as this role was the first role he was cast in where he didn’t have to fight.
Several other members of the cast including Lee, too mentioned that they are proud of the diversity of the show. Falling Water follows a group of different people from all backgrounds, in an honest way- and that’s one of the best aspects of the series. On a last note, the cast also told fans that filming the show profoundly impacted their own dreams in real life. Scary!
