So You Think You Can Dance 14×10 said goodbye to Robert, and brought us down to a top nine.

So You Think You Can Dance’s first live elimination was Monday, and it was rough. After a night of incredible dances, we said goodbye to Robert, a fan favorite from auditions. We are one step closer to crowning America’s Favorite Dancer. The remaining contestants are: Dassy, Logan, Kiki, Kaylee, Taylor, Sydney, Mark, Koine, and Lex. Audience votes will determine which of these three will be in danger next week, but the ultimate decision will be up to judges Vanessa Hudgens, Nigel Lythgoe, and Mary Murphy.

Of the nine remaining, two dancers are feeling the heat already. Sydney and Logan joined Robert in the bottom three this week, and only remained on due to the judges’ decision. Many were surprised by this - although they were not exactly stand-outs, it’s a little shocking that Robert, Sydney, and Logan were the three dancers with the lowest amount of votes.

1. Who was tonight’s MVP?

Austin (@theaustinmayor): I think tonight’s MVP is Logan! I thought his solo was absolutely incredible, especially that head slide, and his duet with Allison was also absolutely incredible! I’m so happy that Allison is back and danced with him tonight. I think they make a great pair!

Janine (@J9DH): I think Dassy had the best routine/solo combo. Her Bollywood routine with Fik-shun was very technically challenging, extremely high energy and she nailed it! Her solo was also very entertaining. There were a few who had outstanding solos - Kiki, Lex and Logan. There were a few who had outstanding routines-Kaylee, Koine. But Dassy excelled in both.

Brandon (@indigo_15): For me, it was Kiki. For him to have botched hip-hop the way he did during the Academy, only to come back and nail his Luther Brown routine with Jenna, was the shock of the night for me. I was nervous for him, but he delivered in a big way. Honorable mention goes to Taylor, who was absolutely delightful in her Broadway piece with Robert Roldan.

Tracy (@tjohn68): I feel like Koine really killed her routine with Marco. That African jazz was so incredible and balance intensive and partner intensive and they both looked like they’ve been doing it forever!

Terry (@rockinchick66): For me tonight’s MVP was Dassy Lee! Her solo was fantastic and she did one of the hardest styles of dance, Bollywood! Love her!

2. Were you surprised by the bottom three?

Austin: I wasn’t overly surprised with the bottom 3, but I thought Kaylee would have been in there and Logan wouldn’t be. She just doesn’t impress me when she dances with Cyrus.

Janine: Actually I was not surprised by 2 of the bottom 3. I felt that Sydney’s routine last week was underwhelming, and Logan didn’t really stand out. Robert was quite good though so I was surprised he was in the bottom, and disappointed he went home.

Brandon: I wasn’t too surprised that Robert Green and Sydney were there, only because I thought they had two of the least memorable routines from last week. I was surprised by Logan being there, because I thought he and Audrey did a wonderful job last week. I’m not sure who I would have put in his place, though.

Tracy: I expected Sydney to be in the bottom three, but I was not prepared for Logan or Robert to be there. I don’t understand Logan at all because last week his routine with Audrey was beautiful, especially in light of the circumstances that he just partnered with her earlier that day. And Robert, I don’t know what to say. I think he just had an amazing personality and I loved him from his audition, so I don’t understand the lower votes for him.

Terry: I actually let out an audible gasp when I found out Logan was in the bottom 3! Crazy!

3. Which dance (aka the lighting, choreo, costumes, and story) did you most enjoy?

Austin: Definitely Marko and Koine! That African number had so many little details and the music was so different!! Sean Cheesman shows once again that us Canadians can choreograph!

Janine: I found Sean Cheeseman’s African Jazz routine performed by Koine and Marko to be extremely interesting in terms of the choreography, costumes and lighting. Koine and Marko did a great job. I loved Dassy and Fik-shun in the Bollywood routine-the choreography and costumes were outstanding! I also loved Allison and Logan in the jazz routine and Cyrus and Kaylee in the hop hop routine. Both had great costumes, choreography and lighting!

Brandon: Koine and Marko’s African Jazz routine was stunning. It seemed to me that they got the hardest piece of music to dance to, as well as one of the most challenging routines of the night. Sean Cheesman always delivers, as does SYTYCD’s costume and lighting department.

Tracy: I love Brian Friedman and his theatrical Eye. Those costumes for Logan and Allison were awesome! But I think overall I’ve got to go back to Sean Cheeseman again with Koine and Marko. Just such a great atmosphere, presentation, costume, the whole thing was really fierce!

Terry: It’s impossible to choose just one as there were so many fantastic routines tonight! I love Bollywood so, of course, Dassy Lee and Fik-Shun’s routine by Nakul Dev Mahajan was one of my faves (costume’s were on point). Al Blackstone’s Broadway number and the costumes/lighting for Taylor and Robert brought me back to a different moment in time! Brian Friedman’s choreography for Alison and Logan was fantastic!

4. Which three dancers/duos did the absolute best?

Austin: If I had to rank them, I’d go with Lex’s solo, Logan’s solo, and then Logan and Allison’s duet! All 3 of them had so much power and tricks in them!!

Janine: Dassy and Fik-shun, Koine and Marko and a tie between Allison and Logan and Kaylee and Cyrus.

Brandon: It’s so hard for me to pick even a top 3 because everyone did extremely well tonight. After a lot of thought, I went with Koine & Marko, Taylor & Robert, and Kiki & Jenna.

Tracy: If I’m looking at both the solo and partner routine, I’d have to say Koine, Logan, and Kaylee. All three solos were very strong and memorable, and the partner routines executed fiercely, and with a lot of strength and chemistry with their partner.

Terry: Robert and Taylor’s Broadway number was amazing and their connection is palpable.
Dassy Lee and Fik-Shun are one of my favorite pairings and even though they had a little stumble during their Bollywood number I loved it!
Gaby and Lex did a fantastic job with their Argentine Tango!

5. Which three dancers maybe could’ve done better?

Austin: Well I’m still not overly impressed with Kaylee. The other two I’d say Robert because he was way out of his style and needed more emotion, and Kiki simply because he needs more hip hop training.

Janine: I thought Lex, Mark and Kiki were underwhelming in their couple routines.

Brandon: I feel like I’m getting nit-picky here, but I guess Dassy & Fik-shun (only because of her fall mid-performance, which she recovered from like a champ), Sydney & Paul (I’m having a hard time connecting with her for some reason), and Robert & Jasmine, who did fine, but on a night full of exceptional performances, I’m not sure it was quite as good as most of the others.

Tracy: Again, looking at both the solo and the partner routine, I’d say Sydney, Taylor, and Mark. I feel like Sydney’s solo was weak, and in her routine with Paul I just didn’t see the connection that they needed for such an emotional routine, I thought she executed it well and she herself was emotional, but I needed more connection of the partners. For Taylor, her solo wasn’t as strong as some of the others. It wasn’t quite as confident as I think she can pull off, but I did love her partner routine with Robert! I thought they executed Broadway beautifully. And Mark, again I felt like his solo was not as strong as it could’ve been for him. Not as much personality as he normally shows. However I did love his routine with Comfort, but to be honest at my eyes were on her that whole routine.

Terry: I can’t pick 3! I tried but they were all so good tonight. However, I didn’t really enjoy Jenna and Kiki’s hip hop routine. Loved the choreography but I didn’t think Jenna or Kiki hit it hard enough. It surprised me that the judges loved it so much!

6. Is your favorite dancer the same as it was last week?

Austin: Yes…kind of… I’m starting to like some other ones after tonight’s performances too! Not going to name any names though….

Janine: Yes-Dassy!

Brandon: Yes. In fact, all of my favorites from last week (Kiki, Taylor, Koine, Logan, and Lex) remain unchanged. But it’s so neck-and-neck this season that I feel others, like Kaylee and Dassy, could easy jump to the top of my list with one incredible performance.

Tracy: It was Taylor last week, and now it’s Logan this week. Logan had quite the surge with Alison back as his partner. The boy has a lot of personality and he’s got crazy moves.

Terry: Yes. I think by now everyone knows my love for Dassy Lee has no bounds. LOL

7. I know it’s tough - but who do you think should go home next week?

Austin: Kaylee. I know people like her, but she just doesn’t impress me outside of her solos.

Janine: I think Mark should go home next week. I don’t think he is as talented and versatile as the other dancers; however, Sydney could also be in trouble.

Brandon: Such a tough question to answer, because I think they’re all amazing. The one dancer I haven’t really connected with yet is Sydney. I hate saying that, but I guess she’d be my choice.

Tracy: I’m thinking Sydney. She needs way more dynamic in her ballroom solo. And she and Paul need to connect deeper.

Terry: It IS tough as everyone this season is so fantastic. If I have to choose one I would say Kiki.

Final Verdict: We’ll miss Robert, but we can’t wait for more of this incredible season!

We were a little surprised by this week’s results, but with so many great dancers it truly is anyone’s game. The dances tonight were incredible and spanned a variety of genres, but the most impressive by far was Koine and Marko’s African Jazz routine. The choreography was beautiful and challenging, the rhythm of the music difficult to discern, and yet this duo killed it. Other standouts include Dassy, Taylor, and Logan (who somehow graced the bottom three this week.)
