FOX’s Gotham Adds Another Rogue Member from the Batman Mythology!
One thing that FOX’s Batman prequel series, Gotham seems to love a little too much, is its gigantic list of villains that keep getting added one after one for the second season that starts next month. TVLine revealed that Gotham is adding the character Firefly, another famous Batman villain to the show, but with a slight change.
The show has cast actress Michelle Veintimilla (Those Who Kill) in the role of Bridget Pike, a troubled young woman who will become the fire-y villain throughout the series. In the comic books, Garfield Lynns (who did appear in one episode in the first season of CW’s Arrow before getting killed off in the same episode.) was the person known as Firefly. Here is how FOX describes Veintimilla’s character on Gotham, who will be appearing episode five and six, via TVLine:
“Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.”
As I don’t really mind the gender change, it’s definitely starting to feel like that the show is getting overcrowded big time as it feels like we are hearing one villain over here being cast and then a few days later/a week, a new one has been cast right over there. As excited as I’m to see Gotham and how it will do in its second season now that they are aiming to be more serialized as opposed to procedural, I just hope that they don’t overdo it by the time we get to the premiere. Let’s not forget that this season of Gotham is supposedly still set to introduce Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange and even the Mad Hatter so we might be getting even more castings in the coming weeks as we are slowly getting closer to the season two premiere.
“The stakes are higher than ever as GOTHAM explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.”
