It’s a bird, it’s a plane: it’s Supergirl’s 1st day of production on episode 2!
One of the most anticipated new shows in the 2015-2016 TV season is CBS’ first superhero series Supergirl, the story of Kara Zor-El (played by Glee’s Melissa Benoist) as she decides to step into the light and become the guardian angel of National City known as Supergirl. As the pilot episode was shot many months ago, the crew has kicked off production on the second episode as of this week and CBS has released a video where you get a sneak peak of what you can expect to see in the second episode.
As David Harewood (who plays Hank Henshaw, director of Department of Extra-Normal Operations, D.E.O.) reveals in the video, they are testing out Supergirl’s abilities and see how far she can go with them. The second episode will be directed by the great Glen Winter (director of several Smallville, Arrow, The Flash episodes as well as those shows’ director of photography) who did his pilot directorial with the Supergirl pilot.
The highlight in this feature is obviously seeing Benoist being so excited for being the Girl of Steel and now doing the second episode. Earlier this week, CBS and Warner Bros. TV released an incredible and inspiring poster of Benoist as the Last Daughter of Krypton. Speaking of inspiring, CBS also put out a beautiful video where they had invited about 400 moms and daughters to a special screening of Supergirl which you can see below.
The best part was when Benoist surprised the audience and the video goes on to show her interacting with all those super-fans and having fun taking photos, doing the poses and just being excited to be with Kara in person. THIS is the type of marketing that we want to see shows like Supergirl do more of for their audience, even before the series has started!
Someone like Kara Zor-El, Peggy Carter, Hawkgirl and many more, are icons and real life heroes to young girls and women all over the world and it should absolutely be celebrated, like what CBS did here. While we are still a few months away from the series premiere, everything that they are putting out there and sharing, has been one great marketing decision after another.
Supergirl is set to premiere on Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM on CBS before returning to its regular timeslot at 8 PM the following Monday.
