Does the new Agents of SHIELD Poster for Season 2 Contain Hidden Clues?
ABC revealed the latest Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. poster just in time to tease the fall premiere. Savvy fans remember the Season 1 poster hinted the show’s biggest twist with all agents looking ahead except for Skye (Chloe Bennet) who’s eyes were clearly fixed on Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). Ward’s eventual betrayal and surprise reveal as a HYDRA sleeper agent seems in hindsight to be tipped by Skye’s uneasy gaze.
Does the Season 2 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. poster contain similar clues? Eager fans are certainly scrutinizing every detail with hope of finding symbolism. The usual pristine silver SHIELD logo now bathed in gritty, desert red may well suggest that newly minted “Director” Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his fugitive team will have their hands full escaping the shadow and stigma of HYDRA.
Agents Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) and Skye on either side of Coulson both seem poised for action which clearly fits their more assertive roles from the end of Season 1. Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) however both appear more pensive and cautious which isn’t surprising after their near-death experience at the hands of Ward.
Most curious are the last two figures. No doubt these two are Grant Ward and newcomer Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). But which is which? The figure on the left stands tall and confident. The one of the right has his back turned with a noticeable crack on the floor between him and the rest. The obvious conclusion is that the right is Ward, but the features and faces are nearly indistinguishable. Do we believe the obvious? Or is there more at play?
If we look back at the end of Season 2 and see this poster in a different light, what might it be? Take a look and give us your thoughts and theories below.
Season two of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series premieres, Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at 9/8c
