The new TV season has officially kicked off and it was another good week for superhero goodness in the news department. With so many comic book properties coming back or getting ready to premiere, it can tricky to keep up with all the news that roll out all the time.
To make it easier, we have another edition of Superhero After Dark for you this week with a complete collection of this week’s news that you may have missed. Disclaimer: some of these news items may contain some possible spoilers so be aware.
Supergirl Finds Its Saturn Girl
In the past two seasons of Supergirl, the Girl of Steel series have teased the Legion of Superheroes several times. We have seen the iconic Legion ring but now we’re actually getting a Legionnaire, kind of! The CW announced that Amy Jackson (Bollywood) is set to recur on the third season of the series. Warner Bros. TV describes the show’s take on Imra as follows:
“Saturn Girl, aka Imra Ardeen, is a kind, smart, and strong-willed hero who uses her telekinetic ability to help those in need. She was born on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons, and arrives on Earth to help Supergirl battle one of her biggest threats.”
While they don’t mention when she will appear, they interestingly left out the Legion aspect of her character. Only time will tell if this is the show’s true way of introducing the Legion of Superheroes.
Black Lightning Adds A New Recurring Character
The CW is getting another superhero series with the upcoming Black Lightning series. As the show is currently filming, another character is joining the series that will be close with one of Jefferson Pierce’s (Cress Williams) daughter.
Deadline revealed that Kyanna Simone Simpson (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks) will recur on the first season of the new DC series. Simpson is playing Jennifer Pierce’s (China Anne McClain) best friend Kiesha who attends the same school. Kiesha is also the daughter of Inspector Henderson (Damon Gupton). Teased as Jennifer’s partner-in-crime, Warner Bros. TV describes the role as follows:
“Kiesha will encourage Jennifer to challenge her image as the perfect principal’s daughter.”
Black Lightning is reportedly premiering in January 2018 with an official premiere date yet to be revealed.
The Arrowverse Heroes Get New Posters
With the Arrowverse shows getting ready to come back in less than two weeks, The CW has revealed new posters for the new season. The network revealed one poster each for Supergirl Season 3, The Flash Season 4, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 and Arrow Season 6.

Dick Grayson Gets A Detective Partner On Titans
DC is launching its own streaming service in 2018 and bringing new original programming to it. One of them is the live-action Teen Titans series, Titans. With production set to kick off this fall, more cast members are joining the project.
TV Line broke the news that Lindsey Gort (The Carrie Diaries) is set to recur as Police Detective Amy Rohrbach. Amy will be Dick Grayson’s (Brenton Thwaites) partner, confirming that Dick will indeed be working with the police force when the show starts.
Amy made her first appearance in DC Comics in #2 of the Nightwing series that ran in 2000. It remains to be seen if Titans will be set in Bludhaven which was the town that Nightwing would be protecting after leaving his life as Robin behind.
And that will be it for this week’s edition of Superhero After Dark news catch-up!
