Ryn’s problems aren’t getting any easier as Donna doesn’t seem to be willing to help!
Siren 1×06 “Showdown” on Freeform was full of arguments and confrontations. Donna (Sibongile Mlambo) and Ryn (Eline Powell) are still stuck on their disagreement as Donna stays in the water. But she won’t be safe there long as it seems many are ready and willing to go in the water after her. Thinking she has chosen the right side, Ryn gets upset with Ben (Alex Roe) when he refuses to let her kill Decker or anyone else. The confrontations continue as Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) is left to deal with the disapproval of Ben’s mother. For reasons that still haven’t made clear. While Ryn seems to forgive Ben this time around, it’s unclear of how long the agreement will last with Ryn still angry over what has happened and is still happening to Donna.

Meanwhile, Xander (Ian Verdun) has finally gotten the confirmation about the existence of mermaids that he’s been looking for. It’s clear the information isn’t going to be something Xander takes lightly. Xander isn’t the only one getting information as Decker (Ron Yuan) confronts Ben with what he knows about mermaids. That, and he desperately wants to know where Donna is and he knows Ben has the answers. While Ben seems to make a deal with Decker, the possibility remains that he could just be tricking the man into giving him answers about what exactly they want with the mermaids.
Let’s meet our roundtable guests and break it down!
Athena (@tinygymshoes) – Mother of a sweet one year old and gym junkie on the side!

LaShonda (@HQ_Klaroline) – Life flight pilot nurse, Klaroline enthusiast, and lover of mermaids!

Lauren (@Young_Dryas) – Seeker of wisdom and lover of mermaids!
1. What did you think about the awkward situation between Ben, Maddie, and Ryan after Ryn kisses Ben?
Athena (@tinygymshoes): I actually didn’t think it was that awkward or had meaning until later on.
Marilyn (@Marilyn72568293): It only really got awkward after Maddie told Ben that Ryn had done the same to her not long ago.
LaShonda (@HQ_Klaroline): Awkward indeed, but cute at the same time. But the look on Maddie and Ben’s faces was priceless. Especially when Maddie said she got one the other day.
Brigida (@domominreader): I just thought that overall it was funny because Ryn’s still has a lot to learn about humans.
Lauren (@Young_Dryas): I think Ryn still has a long way to go before she understands emotions.
2. When Helen arranged for Ryn and Donna to reunite, did you see another big battle coming?
Athena: At first yes, but I noticed it’s probably the way they greet each other underwater. When they’re upset of course.
Marilyn: I was definitely nervous there was going to be another major battle!
LaShonda: I actually did expect another battle between Ryn and Donna. But the way Donna is acting towards her sister about the humans could spell another fight.
Brigida: Maybe some misunderstandings in a conversation, but not a fight.
Lauren: There did seem to be some tension between the two of them, but I didn’t think they were going to fight again so soon.
3. Why do you think Ben’s mom is so against Maddie when even Ben’s father doesn’t seem to mind much?
Athena: I think Ben’s mom may be jealous of the attention Ben gives Maddie and the affection he has for her. Especially since he no longer treats his mother the same.
Marilyn I feel like it has something to do with the secrets Ben’s family is keeping. Maybe she knows something about Maddie’s family that she doesn’t like and is taking it out on her.
LaShonda: She feels Maddie is not good enough for her son. Ben’s mom thinks he could do much better with someone else of a higher caliber.
Brigida: I still don’t get why.
Lauren: Maybe Ben’s mother is projecting on Maddie. Like, her relationship isn’t going well and she’s actually jealous of how well Ben and Maddie seem to be doing together.
4. Do you agree with the decision Ben made about making a deal with Decker for Donna?
Athena: Yes! It was smart of him to use leverage as an advantage to help save the mermaids.
Marilyn: I understand what he was trying to do, but I’m not sure if getting close to Decker in any way is a good idea.
LaShonda: While I don’t agree with the decision being made on Donna’s behalf, I must say they’re one upping Decker. Ben has good intentions and he’s doing what’s best for Donna.
Brigida: I think he was just manipulating Decker into getting him to talk.
Lauren: I trust that Ben only has the best of intentions for the mermaids. So, while I don’t think it’s a good idea to even get near Decker, I’ll continue to trust Ben and his decisions.
5. Did Ryn have a right to be angry with Ben about him stopping her from killing Decker?
Athena: Yes. For her and her sister, I suppose that’s how they deal with things. Their way of living is different than ours
Marilyn: I get that Ryn is confused and probably scared. But she has to see by now that Ben is only trying to help her. Killing Decker would not have helped her situation any. It would have made things much worse.
LaShonda: Ryn had every right to be mad, because that’s why her sister was caught and experimented on. Ryn genuinely felt Donna’s pain. She was only doing what she thought was right by harming Decker.
Brigida: I think Ryn didn’t understand that Ben doesn’t want any deaths. Even if the person in question did something hugely wrong.
Lauren: Ryn had a right to be mad about the situation and at Decker. But she shouldn’t have gotten angry at Ben and I’m glad she realized that and came back.
6. Xander now has confirmation that his belief in mermaids is correct. So what do you think his next step will be?
Athena: I believe Xander will try to capture a mermaid, specifically Donna. Or at least venture out to contact her.
Marilyn: I think Xander’s next step should be talking to Ben about things. But what I think he will actually do is try and go after Ryn and Donna.
LaShonda: I’m betting Xander will go out and try to find another mermaid. I believe he genuinely wants to help.
Brigida: I think he’ll try to catch one.
Lauren: Xander is a hard character to crack. Part of me wants to say he’ll go down the wrong road and try to harm one. But the other part of me says that he will start helping the mermaids. I really don’t know.
7. Donna has headed back to the ocean after having enough of the humans. Do you think she will come back? If she does, will it be willingly or because she’s been captured again?
Athena: I believe, because of her hate for humans, Donna would need to be captured or be given reason to come back. Maybe because of Ryn.
Marilyn: I have a strong feeling that the only way Donna will come back is if she’s captured. There is a good chance Xander is going to be the one to do it too.
LaShonda: I was hoping Ryn, Ben, Maddie, and Helen would change Donna’s mind. Donna will come back, but it will be cause of her sister Ryn.
Brigida: She’ll come back because she knows that Helen can help her in some way.
Lauren: I have a feeling that Helen will be the one to make Donna come back. Just because she does have a connection with both mermaids and Donna does seem to trust her, at least a little bit.
Final Verdict: It’s time for Donna to come out of the water and get on board with Ryn and the others!
We get why Donna doesn’t trust humans, but we’re unsure of why she doesn’t seem to trust her own sister. Ryn is clearly not the alpha when it comes to the two of them, but we think loyalty should still come into play. Even if Donna can’t trust the humans, the fact remains that she and Ryn are in danger and they need to trust someone in order to be safe again. There are just way too many people after them for Donna and Ryn to remain alone to fight them all off. So, accepting help would be in their best interest.
Ben’s parents are making less and less sense as the episodes go on. Especially Ben’s mother. What could she possibly have against Maddie? Regardless of what it is, we really think she needs to get over it. Whether she likes it or not, Ben has chosen to be in a relationship with Maddie and his mother needs to respect that choice. Particularly because Ben is an adult and makes his own decisions. He certainly doesn’t need the approval of his parents, but their respect for his friends should be a given.
We won’t have another episode until the end of May, but when the show returns, the wait will surely have been worth it! Dale is going to have to answer to a higher authority for the crime spree that’s been happening in Bristol Cove. This could lead to some major trouble for him, and he could also lose his job. Ben and Decker are also going to be in some trouble as they are caught up by a siren’s song. The question is going to be which siren’s song catches both of them, if they are both caught up by the same mermaid.
