Another Leading Lady, Angela Bassett, Joins the Star-Studded Cast of Marvel’s Highly-Anticipated Phase-Three Picture.
It looks like Forest Whitaker and Lupita Nyong’o won’t be the only critically acclaimed actors on set when Black Panther starts shooting in early 2017. Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett is set to play the role of Ramonda, the mother of the title character first introduced in “Captain America: Civil War”. Bassett most recently rejuvenated her career by starring in the Ryan Murphy produced anthology “American Horror Story”.
Beyond the news of her casting, no details were shared about the prominence of the role. In the comics, T’Challa’s mother died during childbirth and Ramonda was introduced as a second wife to his father, T’Chaka – who had a rather significant hand in “Civil War’s” proceedings.
We will have to wait until the film’s release on February 16, 2018, to find out how the story will be adapted to the big screen.
