Sunday Funday at TVD Orlando 2014
The annual Vampire Diaries and The Originals fan convention is held each December in Orlando, Florida. Cast members from both supernatural series appear to sign autographs, take photos, attend Q&A panels and have private meet and greets with fans. Cast appearing this year include,Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Paul Wesley (Stefan), Chris Wood (Kai), Zach Roerig (Matt), Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy), Michael Trevino (Tyler), Michael Malarkey (Enzo), Charles Michael Davis (Marcel), Chase R. Coleman (Oliver), Shaun Sipos (Aaron Whitmore) and hosted by the lovely Arielle Kebbel (Lexi), Sunday included a special half hour Gold Panel with Ian and Paul, then a panel from Michael Malarkey and full panel with Ian and Paul. Below are a few facts shared from their panels and photos shared by fans. (Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of live tweeting.)
Gold Panel with Ian Somerhalder & Paul Wesley:
- What’s the worst part about being an actor? Ian jokes about being on stage with Paul and Paul says “getting a scene right and being good at your craft. And not knowing what’s next.”
- If you can be stuck in 1994 mystic falls who would it be? Ian says Eddie Vedder because there is endless booze at the Salvatore mansion and they can jam and Paul answers Kurt Cobain.
- A fan questions If they could have any super power what would it be? Ian wants to have the power to tell us to do whatever he wants like “take your pants off” and Paul would be able to teleport.
- A fan asks: What was your first impression of each other? .Paul: “I thought Ian was in love with me with the way he was looking at me.” Ian says it was at their fang fitting and he remembers what Paul was wearing. Paul: “That’s because all we wear is jeans and black t shirts.” Ian: Paul was wearing light jeans and brown boots.”
- Paul says he remembers the fang fitting but remembers him more from the trip to Vancouver. Says they bonded over Starbucks coffee Americana.
- A fan asks if there’s an actor or actress they want to work with? Paul wants to work with his fave actress Ian and Ian says he’d love to work with Robert Downey jr.
- A asks them if they would get matching tattoos what would it be? Paul says he’d get a tramp stamp of Ian and they both agree they’d get tramp stamps of each other on their lower backs.
- Ian reveals his fondest childhood memory is fishing in the bayou
- Paul says he pulls the reality police card on Ian often. LOL!
Michael Malarkey:
- Michael confesses he loves both singing and acting.
- A fans asks how he relates to Enzo? Michael says he similar in many ways and says he brings himself to each role.
- Michael says today his favorite band is The Clash of the Misfits.
- The cast member Michael says he has the most off screen chemistry with is maybe Paul..
- Michael reveals he didn’t know how long he would be Enzo and was shocked about the fanbase
- He was just stoked to play a vampire.
- Michael shares he’s influenced by both good and bad actors, but has always loved Paul Newman.
- He says that acting is his main passion. but loves to sing
- He loved visiting Thailand. He was there for 3 weeks and didn’t want to leave.
- A role Michael has always wanted to play that he never got is James Bond hands down.
- If he could play a different character, it would be Caroline!
- He confesses Enzo has never had bagged blood on TVD.
- He had no idea what he wanted to do as a kid. Acting wasn’t always a priority
- Michael thinks there is a big problem with our education system and says kids today are too rushed to figure it out now
- He first started acting in 2004 and his first role was a double bill in theatre in London of a Tennessee Williams play. In the national theatre
- A fans asks if he finds playing compassionate Enzo or villain Enzo more challenging and he replies that he doesn’t think it’s a challenge. He just has to humanize
- He appreciates the fandom and is always willing to accommodate his fans long as we know boundaries The craziest fan experience he’s had was when he played Elvis..Michael says this one girl came every night and kept waiting for him at the back door
- Micheal’s fave book is by Tom Robbins ‘Fierce Invalids”
- He would want his brother to play him If there was a movie about him.
- Michael says that he regrets not learning more languages.
- He thinks the whole Caroline/Stefan thing is one-sided.
- Caroline is one of Micheal’s favorite characters.
- He says Nina is a darling.
- Michael confesses that kissing and sex scenes aren’t as romantic as they look.
Ian & Paul:
- Paul says he texted Ian on his birthday.
- Paul says that it’s a slow process but Stefan and Caroline may be happening.
- The most trouble Ian had growing up was with the New Orleans police department during Mardi Gras. Paul reveals he went to three high-schools got kicked out, so he went to an all boys school. “That explains a lot.” - Ian.
- When asked how they find the passion to work with Elena on screen they joke about using little blue pills. Lol!
- Ian’s fave scene with Damon, Stefan and Elena was in season one when Damon walks into the room when Stefan and Elena were in bed together and Damon says, “I’ll throw dollar at it if I haven’t seen it before.”
- Ian’s favorite season was one and Paul’s is season three. “Season 1 and 2 were the best from a story point. Julie and Kevin were at their best” - Ian.
- When asked If they could choose a sister on the show they joke bout the South. Ian says he’d want Caroline as his on screen sister.
- Best part of the show for Ian is the staff and crew and family that now are part of his life. They are the unsung heroes he says. .
- He explains he started ISF after the BP oil spill. He didn’t want his home destroyed and he thanked everyone for all the support for the show and ISF. He jokes that Paul’s career wouldn’t exist without the show.
- Ian thinks there’s a weird obsession going around with looking at ourselves like taking selfies and that we need to tone it down.
- [Ian is on his phone] Paul: “He’s looking at photos of himself.”
- Ian is talking about how the audience/viewers is always fluctuating.
- Paul says that Ian cracks his back when he hugs him. Says Ian ‘thrusts’ into him.
- Paul says his first job was being an extra.
- Ian shares that Paul is an amazing director.
- When asked about their biggest insecurities Paul jokes, “If one day Daniel Gillies stops loving me.” Haha!
- A fan says, “This a question for Stefan.” and Paul replies,”Who’s Stefan?”
- When asked if Paul thinks a relationship between Caroline and Stefan will be weird, Paul replies “No. I think it’s actually heading in that direction.”
- Paul does his impression of Ian’s smolder look
- Fan: “Hi Ian.” Ian: “What about Paul?”” Fan: “Hi Paul.” Paul: “I don’t need your pity hi.” .
- Ian says Kat is his sister and says “Bonnie and Damon have great chemistry.”
- Ian calls Paul a “Dick.”and Paul says “I own that domain.”
- Paul reveals he sleeps shirtless!!
- Ian and Paul’s relationship is Ian’s longest relationship. Ian: “Paul has real fangs.” Paul: “I dooo.”
- A fan says, “I’m team Damon. and Paul responds “Whatever. If you knew us in real life you’d be team Paul!”
- Ian and Nikki went on a little movie date to watch Birdman.
- Paul designed a shirt for the humane society so he says watch out for that because it’s going to drop soon.
- Arielle asks them if they have any holiday plans and Ian jokes “Paul and I are going to a cabin, by ourselves.”
- Ian’s going to the mountains then the beach because he needs to disconnect. (for the holidays) and Paul is going to Poland to see his grandparents over the holidays.
- [Ian does a Paul imitation and Paul:says it “Looks like you’re taking a dump.” Haha!
Shaun Sipos:
- If he wasn’t acting Shaun really wanted to be a doctor. He had an experience as a child that made him want to be a compassionate doctor.
- He loves old school black and white Mickey Mouse and he is his favorite Disney character.
- Shaun first says his greatest influence in acting is James Dean, but then says Heath ledger probably was his biggest influence.
- His favorite movie of all time is “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and more recent is “Lord of the Rings.”
- Shaun doesn’t have a preference for what kind of roles he plays, but. does love supernatural aspects. He says he looks for a good script.
- Shaun reveals the first time he was arrested was when he was 10 years old. It was for smashing police cars. He broke into a police yard. The cops asked him if he wanted to go home or jail and he wanted to go to jail.
- He would like to be a vampire if he could pick a role because they are strong, but then changes his mind and would be a hybrid
- If he could be any other character he would be Damon because he is very sadistic.
- Shaun is listening to more folk music now, but recently saw Michael Malarkey.
- His first concert was Vanilla Ice and his second was New Kids on the Block.
- Shaun confesses his favorite person to work with on TVD was Paul and shares that they have been friends since they were 18.
- He thinks Darth Vader is the greatest villain of all time.
- He loves racing cars and spear fishing in his downtime
- His guilty pleasure is dark chocolate and says it has to be dark. He doesn’t do milk… And probably watching racing is his other guilty pleasure..
- If he could travel anywhere he would go to Africa, and Antarctica
- He would love to act with Meryl Streep, Daniel Day Lewis, Christopher Walken, and Christopher Plummer.
- Shaun loves Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.
- Favorite childhood books are “The Hatchet,” “Narnia” and “Catcher in the Rye.”
- Shuan has 2 tattoos. One is both of his parents birthdays and the other is love in Croatian
- His favorite ‘Lord of the Rings’ character is Gandolf.
