Keiynan Lonsdale will be bringing Wally West to life on The CW’s The Flash!
For a long time now, we have known that The Flash would be introducing one of the Flash mythology’s most famous characters, Wally West, in the second season of the series. In the DC Comics universe, Wally, nephew of Iris West, has been one of the Flash family members to be a scarlet speedster as he has gone by Kid Flash, a sidekick to Barry Allen and he has taken on the role of The Flash as well. Having a large fan following through the comics and various animated portrayals, a lot of fans have been waiting to find out who would be chosen to portray Wally on the TV show.
The search is finally over as it was announced by The CW that Insurgent actor Keiynan Lonsdale will be bringing Wally to life on The Flash and there is a major bonus to this piece of news is Lonsdale will be a series regular. What remains to be seen though is whether or not he will still be Iris’s nephew, given the fact that they haven’t explored the West family tree that much. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Lonsdale’s Wally is the little brother of Iris (Candice Paton) and perhaps he has been staying with Moma West whose status has been incredibly vague so far in the series.
As part of the announcement, show-runner and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about Lonsdale joining the series as Wally:
“Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”
I can only echo and share the excitement of my fellow speedsters out there as Wally is one of the greatest characters in the DC Universe and seeing the Flash family just expanding more, has me more excited for the second season. The second season will also introduce more iconic Flash characters such as Jay Garrick and Patty Spivot, played by Teddy Sears and Shantel VanSanten respectively. In addition, while no casting has been announced yet, we have a new big bad of the season, Zoom who is going to be an even more dangerous antagonist to Barry (Grant Gustin).
The Flash begins its second season on Tuesday October 6, 8/7c on The CW.
