One of the things that The Originals series seem to do well, are picking the music selections for certain scenes much like but let’s give a recognition nod to the music score in the intro scene with Elijah and Klaus, Hayley, followed by Cami and Marcel. It’s impactful in a quietly beautiful way, that had us emotionally connected to the characters and that’s thanks to television music supervisor Christopher Mollere. – The Originals Reviewer, Jenevia Kagawa Darcy.
The soundtrack for The Originals 2×01 “Rebirth,” much like the episodes in the series’ first season, contained a rich blend of soulful tracks that not only enhanced the emotion of the scene, but fit perfectly to the vibrant sounds of New Orleans. For instance the scene where Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) returns to the bayou and finds a doll, “This Place Is A Shelter” by Olafur Arnalds plays in the background. The slow tempo of the instrumental track really accentuates the scene’s somber mood and Hayley’s longing to be reunited with her child. And choosing Xu Xu Fang’s “Noir State Beach” to play during the battle against the Guerrero werewolves really dialed up the intensity of the event. The powerful beat gave the episode’s climatic sequence that extra zeal, making the battle that much more memorable. Take a look at the episode’s song list below.
- “This Place Is A Shelter” – Olafur Arnalds
- “Occupy Your Mind” – Villagers
- “Noir State Beach” – Xu Xu Fang
- “Easy Living” – Clifford Brown
- “Sleeping Alone” – Lykke Li
