A Legend is preparing to leave the Arrowverse, Titans getting ready for production and more in this week’s Superhero After Dark!
The superhero and comic book TV season are officially full underway as both DC and Marvel are back with new heroic adventures. As always, there are lots of superhero news that come out and sometimes it is easy to miss some of the announcements.
To make it easier, we have another round of Superhero After Dark for you this week with a complete collection that you may have missed. Disclaimer: one of them features a potentially big spoiler.
John Constantine Boarding The Waverider On Legends
While NBC’s Constantine may have had a short-lived run, Matt Ryan’s take on John Constantine lived on. After his solo guest-spot on Arrow, Constantine is now making his return to The CW, but on a different show!
Ryan will guest in episode 9 and 10 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 3. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Phil Klemmer teased what fans can expect of Constantine when he joins the time-traveling group.
“As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends. His appearance in episode 310 will involve the following: a revisiting of Arrow season four and the events following that season’s finale episode; a confrontation with this season’s Big Bad on Legends — the name we’ve only heard whispered until now, Mallus; some hot sex — something that has been in short supply on the Waverider thus far in season three; and Damien Darhk [Neil McDonough], because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk? More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it’s The Exorcist meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Demonic possession in a mental institution — what’s not to love?”
So you will get Constantine for Christmas and then another appearance of him in January for the midseason premiere! 2018 will also mark the year of the animated Constantine series debuting on CW Seed. Ryan will be reprising the role You can catch a preview of that series below.
Titans In Full Pre-Production
DC Comics and Warner Bros. TV will be launching its own streaming service in 2018. One of the original programming it will offer is the live-action Teen Titans show Titans. While the show has yet to cast its Beast Boy, one of the core members, the series is definitely gearing up for production.
Anna Diop, who will be playing Starfire, recently shared a new Instagram video of herself doing VFX shots. Minka Kelly, who will be playing Dove, shared a video a while ago too of doing scan shots. With the show in pre-production, it means that filming will be starting shortly.
A Legend Is Leaving The Arrowverse
Now for some sad news, particularly for Legends of Tomorrow fans. Victor Garber, who has been playing Martin Stein a.k.a. one half of Firestorm for three years is officially exiting the series in Season 3.
Deadline revealed this week that Garber is closing in on wrapping his run on the DC series and that his exit has been carefully planned out. Garber’s reason for exiting Legends of Tomorrow is due to his new Broadway project which is a revival of Hello, Dolly!.
That probably means that Martin Stein will be ending his arc sometime in December. It remains to be seen how the show will write Stein out of the show, but perhaps he will be back in the future for a guest spot or two! Fans will also have to wait and see how the show addresses the Firestorm situation as Franz Drameh’s Jax Jackson, the other half of the hot hero, is still staying.
Black Lightning’s Big Bad Gets A Sister
The CW is getting a new superhero in January 2018 with Black Lightning. But with every great hero comes a great villain who will be in the form of Tobias Whale (Krondon).
However, it appears that Tobias isn’t the only Whale family member we will meet. Deadline revealed that Edwina Findley (If Loving You) is recurring as Tobias’s sister Tori.
“Tori, the beautiful and cunning younger sister to Tobias Whale. Tori’s charming nature is just a facade as she can be just as deadly as Tobias, an exciting threat to the people of Freeland.”
No premiere date has yet to be announced for Black Lightning, but expect it to premiere in January 2018. That will be it for this week’s edition of Superhero After Dark!
