‘Wynonna Earp’ 2×03 has a slightly different take on homecoming compared to most other dramas, as former jocks of the local school find themselves haunted by an organ hunting demon. Yikes.
Homecoming never seems to go well on television, but we do believe ‘Wynonna Earp’ took it to the next level…and then some!
It’s not every day the celebrations are marred by jocks forced by demons to jam their fists into their own body and wrench out an organ. Kinda grisly, right? What could’ve been a simple homecoming for dumb jocks to celebrate with cheap Bud and cheerleading pom-poms (well, we got some of that) turned into quite the fiasco. Firstly, we had the demon itself. Secondly, we had the ever troublesome Tucker, who as it emerges is related to Mercedes (Dani Kind).
Wynonna’s (Melanie Scrofano) on the case after Nedley (Greg Lawson) hands the case over to the BBD. Nicole (Katherine Barrell) is not a happy bunny. But who would be, considering they’d just been removed from that very secretive division not so long ago?
It’s not good news for Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), either. Though unbeknownst to her, she is being controlled by this possessive demon-parasite of sorts. And she doesn’t have any recollection of it. In the background, it seems to will her to do things that she wouldn’t usually do, like kiss Nicole in front of an entire high school crowd. Nicole’s obviously furious, especially when Tucker films it on his phone. This is career-threatening stuff.
RELATED l ‘Wynonna Earp’ [2×02] Roundtable
Meanwhile, as Agent Lucado (the brilliant Kate Drummond) continues her tyrannical reign over the BBD, Doc (Tim Rozon) persuades Wynonna to try and trap the demon she’s hunting. Then, he suggests capturing it so they can trade it for some of Dolls’ (Shamier Anderson) lizard-dope.
However, we end on a bitter note. It turns out Dolls has actually been hiding out in the Earps’ barn, and when Waverly finds him, he initially thinks perhaps he’s being saved. But of course he’s not. She’s possessed. And Dolls is the first to be fully clued in on this fact as Waverly leaves him, struggling with his condition and in desperate need of his suppressant medication, screaming in horror.
Ouch. What else can we say? Well, it’s a good job we’ve wrangled some Earpers up for that! Here are this week’s contributors!

1. Okay, let’s talk the cheerleading dance scene! We knew we’d love it when we saw the snippet in the trailer. What are your thoughts on Waverly, Nicole and the not-so-oblivious-anymore Wynonna in that segment?
Nic (@CloneNic):
I knew Dom could dance, I’ve seen the videos, but DAMN. I’m loving this new dynamic although I’d love it a little more if Wynonna would stop interrupting WayHaught’s potential sexy times. I’m also really loving that we’re getting to see a little bit more of Wynonna and Nicole interacting without Waverly.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
Wynonna’s reaction was hilarious and added, well, a new dimension to this scene we’ve all been anticipating for some time. Nicole clearly knows this side of Waverly is… new, and she’s not just chalking it up to some kind of sexual awakening. Her cop instincts and girlfriend instincts are operating simultaneously.
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Hannah (@EarpSista):
I love it! It’s so good that Wynonna finally knows about her sisters relationship. I’m really happy that Wynonna is not treating it any differently than she would do if Waverly was dating a guy. She essentially gives Nicole ‘the shovel’ ‘do not hurt my sister’ speech today I think it was needed as Wynonna really does see herself as Waverly’s protector.
P.S Cheerleading Waverly was spot on! I think Emily Andras hit the nail on the head when It comes to knowing what her audience likes!
Marina (@earperfanart):
I wasn’t really sure what to expect with that scene, besides that I knew I was going to love it. Well, it blew all expectations out of the water and back again, lol. I’m still processing. I love Nicole and Wynonna’s dynamic right now. So good!

2. We always knew Doc was madly in love with Wynonna. He even says in this episode he’s only cooking up Dolls’ medicine for Wynonna’s sake–not Dolls’. Ultimately, where do you see the connection between Doc and Wynonna drifting to?
Nic (@CloneNic):
I think the Wynonna/Doc relationship is going to be on the back burner until Dolls is either back or gone for good. Wynonna cares too much for both men to make a decision while everything is so up in the air.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
I see this as a classic TV will-they-won’t-they, on-again-off-again tension relationship that will be kind of a crux of the show. If they ever resolve it completely, I dunno. It could take away a certain energy the show has. I hope they don’t ever fully resolve their connection.
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Hannah (@EarpSista):
I don’t think it will be a romantic relationship, at least not in the short term. You can see Doc loves Wynonna but he respects her and himself enough to know that neither of them are in the right head space to go into a relationship. There is potential, that maybe towards the end of the season something could happen between them but I hope at the moment they stick as they are.

3. This episode really emphasised Waverly and her ‘Earpiness’. Okay, then she went on to eat Wynonna’s lipstick and also–the big reveal of Demon!Waverly at the end…to Dolls! What a set-up for the next episode. What’s gonna happen? Surely there’s only two paths: either Dolls dies, or Waverly’s demonic side is revealed! Particularly pertaining to Wynonna and Nicole…how do you see their relationships with Waves changing?
Nic (@CloneNic):
I’m thinking that “Gooverly” is going to be outed next week. I can’t see them killing off Dolls especially by having Waverly do it. As for how Wynonna and Nicole will handle this Waverly information? I’m guessing we’ll see the two of them teaming up even more in order to figure out how to get their girl back.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
I think we’ll see Waverly’s demonic side get revealed… more? But maybe not completely yet. No, Dolls won’t die. Poor Nicole, though. They’re in for a rough patch. Can’t a good cop just get to do her job and have a relationship too? Is that too much to ask?
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Hannah (@EarpSista):
Wow what a tough question!- *sings * ‘I see trouble ahead’ !
I think Wynonna will find out about Gooverly next episode and all hell with break loose! Wynonna is going to have to face the tough fact that she may have to shoot another sister and she will feel like she’s let everyone (especially Waverly) down. Nicole will take it very hard as well. She knew something wasn’t right from the beginning but I don’t think she has any idea what is wrong. I think she will feel like everything that’s happened between them was a fake and even them having sex she may feel was not really Waverly and that will kill her inside.
Marina (@earperfanart):
If Waverly could stop eating all the random stuff around, that would be great. Dolls will come back and alert everyone to Waves; Nicole and Wyn will not take her being possessed too kindly. I just hope Nicole knows Waverly is still Waverly.

4. It seems like Nicole’s destined to be in those khakis, not BBD, and be Sheriff. Do you think she will be happy with this or will she always want more? And can we just give some praise or analysis of Katherine Barrell’s performance? I don’t know about you, but she stole the episode for me.
Nic (@CloneNic):
First off I have to say I’m loving how much more Kat we’re getting to see this season. She’s really getting to shine just as bright as her costars and that’s phenomenal to see.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
She seemed happy to learn she will be Sheriff, and I’ll say it again for the people in the back: in the end, it will be an asset that she’s not BBD. Kat Barrell’s facial acting skills alone deserve an Emmy. She conveys so much just with her eyes. I’m impressed with her every single episode.
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Because Nicole knows the truth about the Black Badge Division and the Earp curse, she won’t need to be an official BBD member to be an important part of the team. There has to be a point at which Black Badge (or at least Waverly and Wynonna) will just start keeping her in the loop even if she remains a local cop. She’s too valuable as a BBD ally, official or not.
As for Kat’s performance, I totally agree. She’s a great actress and the show was lucky to get her!
Hannah (@EarpSista):
Nicole will always want more! I see her as a very driven person, you can see in this episode how much her career means to her and she will always strive to go to the next level. Katherine stole the show for me too! I loved seeing a completely frazzled Nicole and she played that so well. I do hope though that she finds some comfort in what Nedley has said to her and tries to be happy, at least for now. Katherine’s performance was an A+

5. Nedley’s been a great guy and supportive of Nicole. But he did make some unknowingly misogynistic moments. What did you think of them, Nedley, and the way the show handled it? Or did you interpret them as misogynistic at all?
Nic (@CloneNic):
Nedley has definitely had some less than shining moments but I would say that part of that, sadly, comes with his age and background. He does however seem to be learning to be less of a misogynist. I also have to wonder if part of what he was doing was testing Nicole, albeit not in the best way, to see if she could handle Purgatory and its citizens.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
I think Nedley is not actually misogynist and that is proven at the end of the episode when he hands Nicole the file on Tucker. He plays the good ol’ boy sheriff, but he really keeps much closer tabs on the town than anyone has realized. He has Nicole’s back and she knows it, even if he is not exactly the bastion of feminism one would hope.
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Hannah (@EarpSista):
I didn’t feel it was misogynistic. I know it may have come off that was a little but the way he spoke to Nicole and the fact that he wants her become Sheriff one day speaks volumes of what he thinks about her. The scene with them together after Nicole got beaten down by the demon was one of the best of the episode, it kind of gave me warm fuzzies inside!
Marina (@earperfanart):
Nedley’s a great guy but it’s still a wonky, country town so I expect some “SMH” moments from him. The show handled them well, I think.
[wp_ad_camp_2]
6. Do you think the show’s storing away the Bobo bombshell for a reason/time, or is this something you’d like an answer some time real soon?
Nic (@CloneNic):
I’d like an answer to the Earp/Not An Earp question but I also don’t want that answer to be rushed. There’s already so much going on with Waverly that I think adding that answer would be too much right now. Let her sort out her inner demon and then she can deal with who she is.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
I think that will come closer to the end of the season, and right now I don’t know enough to even speculate. I think it’ll be tied in closely with this season’s finale, which I don’t even want to think about yet because things are just getting good right now.
Hannah (@EarpSista):
I think it will come into play soon. Maybe if they have to exorcize the demon from Waverly they find she has different DNA or bloodtype or something like that. Whether they go about it by researching etc I’m not sure. I do think we will find out this season though.
Marina (@earperfanart):
Bobo was just messing with her head. I think she’s an Earp. I’d like to find out but it would be cool if Waves could find out for herself vs anyone else messing with her more.
[wp_ad_camp_2]
7. Let’s end with Tucker (boo). He’s really the representation of an online troll come to life, isn’t he? A bit of a loaded question, but how well (or not well) do you think the show handled that, and how he was treated?
Nic (@CloneNic):
I would have LOVED to see Tucker get taken down a peg or 10 but I think what the show did was excellent. It showed just how easy these trolls have it. Be it in real life or on the internet, they can get away with things that should be totally frowned upon. No one should be able to behave as Tucker does but, if you’re a straight white male, you’re definitely more likely to get away with being a horrendous human.
Elizabeth Bridges (@EGBridges):
Nedley handed Nicole that file. He has something else up his sleeve regarding Tucker. That kid will get his for sure. Just wait. This show doesn’t let creeps like him get away with that sort of nonsense.
Curt Bennett (@CurtTalksTV):
Hannah (@EarpSista):
To be honest, it was realistic. Certain people get away with murder, and some quite literally. It was annoying he got off with a slapped wrist essentially but I was happy they had a character that wasn’t happy with Waverly being with another woman. It makes sense and it had to come eventually!
