Rihanna Checks in to Bates Motel
Music superstar and all-around badass Rihanna has been cast as Marion Crane in the fifth and final season of the A&E thriller, Bates Motel. The announcement was made during the series’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Originally, the ill-fated character was played by Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic, Psycho.
“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way,” executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said in announcing the casting. “We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
Other news from the panel according to Deadline: Vera Farmiga will executive produce and return in her Emmy-nominated role as Norma Bates after her epic death near the end of Season 4. Max Thieriot will make his directorial debut, and Nestor Carbonell will direct for his third time. And Freddie Highmore will write his second episode alongside executive producers Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse.
