Hot Topic: HBO’s Game of Thrones still reigns as the most pirated show of 2017 for the sixth year in a row
Even HBO Now can’t fix this one. A few years ago it was reported that a ton of people all over the world were illegally pirating Game of Thrones to get their fix due to it being a UK-based show with a huge United States following. HBO Now was HBO’s way to solve that but now for the sixth year in a row, GoT is still the top pirated show of the year, reported by Screen Rant. With the final season approaching, the show has broken many records and has been the most popular show in HBO’s history. Second in the most pirated television shows is The Walking Dead, and The Flash in third.
The article also notes the pirating was partially due to the episodes released prior to air by hackers. They may not keep the lead in 2018, however, because the eighth and final season will not air until the following year in 2019 which was just officially confirmed by HBO.
